Psalm 92:1-4

Psalm 92

God’s Love and Faithfulness

A psalm. A song for the Sabbath day.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praise to your name, Most High,(A)
to declare your faithful love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,(B)
with a ten-stringed harp[a]
and the music of a lyre.(C)

For you have made me rejoice, Lord,
by what you have done;
I will shout for joy
because of the works of your hands.(D)

Psalm 92:12-15

12 The righteous thrive like a palm tree
and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon.(A)
13 Planted in the house of the Lord,
they thrive in the courts of our God.(B)
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
healthy and green,(C)
15 to declare, “The Lord is just;
he is my rock,
and there is no unrighteousness in him.”(D)

Isaiah 30:8-17

Go now, write it on a tablet in their presence
and inscribe it on a scroll;
it will be for the future,
forever and ever.
They are a rebellious people,
deceptive children,(A)
children who do not want to listen to the Lord’s instruction.
10 They say to the seers, “Do not see,”
and to the prophets,
“Do not prophesy the truth to us.
Tell us flattering things.(B)
Prophesy illusions.
11 Get out of the way!
Leave the pathway.
Rid us of the Holy One of Israel.”(C)
12 Therefore the Holy One of Israel says:
“Because you have rejected this message
and have trusted in oppression and deceit,
and have depended on them,
13 this iniquity(D) of yours will be
like a crumbling gap,
a bulge in a high wall
whose collapse will come in an instant—suddenly!
14 Its collapse will be like the shattering
of a potter’s jar,(E) crushed to pieces,
so that not even a fragment of pottery
will be found among its shattered remains—
no fragment large enough to take fire from a hearth
or scoop water from a cistern.”
15 For the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said:
“You will be delivered by returning and resting;
your strength will lie in quiet confidence.
But you are not willing.”
16 You say, “No!
We will escape on horses”—
therefore you will escape!—
and, “We will ride on fast horses”—
but those who pursue you will be faster.(F)
17 One thousand will flee at the threat of one,(G)
at the threat of five you will flee,
until you remain
like a solitary pole on a mountaintop
or a banner on a hill.

John 16:1-4

16 “I have told you these things to keep you from stumbling. They will ban you from the synagogues.(A) In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering service(B) to God. They will do these things because they haven’t known(C) the Father or me. But I have told you these things so that when their time[a] comes you will remember(D) I told them to you. I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
