Psalm 96:1-9

Psalm 96

Praise to God Who Comes in Judgment

O sing to the Lord a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.(A)
Sing to the Lord; bless his name;
    tell of his salvation from day to day.(B)
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous works among all the peoples.(C)
For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised;
    he is to be revered above all gods.(D)
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.(E)
Honor and majesty are before him;
    strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.(F)

Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.(G)
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering, and come into his courts.(H)
Worship the Lord in holy splendor;
    tremble before him, all the earth.(I)

1 Kings 8:14-21

Solomon’s Speech

14 Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood.(A) 15 He said, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David, saying,(B) 16 ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any of the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, nor did I choose anyone to be a ruler over my people Israel. But I have chosen Jerusalem in order that my name may be there,[a] and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel.’(C) 17 My father David had it in mind to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.(D) 18 But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to consider building a house for my name; 19 nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’(E) 20 Now the Lord has fulfilled the promise that he made, for I have risen in the place of my father David; I sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.(F) 21 There I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with our ancestors when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”(G)

2 Corinthians 11:1-6

Paul and the False Apostles

11 I wish you would put up with me in a little foolishness. Yes, do put up[a] with me!(A) I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I promised you in marriage to one husband, to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.(B) But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by its cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure[b] devotion to Christ.(C) For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.(D) I think that I am not in the least inferior to these super-apostles.(E) Even if I am untrained in speech, I certainly am not with respect to knowledge; certainly in every way and in all things we have made this evident to you.(F)
