Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
After a while you will not see me, and again after a while you will see me, because I go to the Father.
Then some of his disciples said between themselves, What is this that he says to us, After a while you will not see me, and again after a while you will see me? and, Because I go to the Father? 18 They said therefore, What is this that he says, After a while? We cannot understand what he says.
Jesus perceived that they wanted to question him and said to them, You enquire about this between yourselves, that I said, After a while you will not see me, and again after a while you will see me. 20 Truly truly I say to you, you will weep and lament, and the world will rejoice. You will sorrow; but your sorrow will be turned to joy.
A woman when she travails has sorrow, because her hour is come. But as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. 22 And you now are in sorrow. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 And in that day you will ask me no question. Truly truly I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, so that your joy may be full.
