Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
110 1 David prophesieth of the power and everlasting kingdom given to Christ, 4 and of his Priesthood, which should put an end to the Priesthood of Levi.
A Psalm of David.
1 The [a]Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy power out of [b]Zion: be thou ruler in the midst of thine enemies.
3 Thy people shall come willingly at the time of assembling [c]thine army in holy beauty: the youth of thy womb shall be as the morning dew.
4 The Lord sware, and will not repent, Thou art a Priest forever, after the order of [d]Melchizedek.
5 The Lord that is at thy right hand, shall wound kings in the day of his wrath.
6 He shall be judge among the heathen: he shall fill all with dead bodies, and smite the [e]head over great countries.
7 He shall [f]drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up his head.
7 ¶ Then the Lord said, I have surely seen the trouble of my people, which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry, because of their [a]taskmasters: for I know their sorrows.
8 Therefore I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them out of that land into a good land and a large, into a land that [b]floweth with milk and honey, even into the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9 [c]And now lo, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me, and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 ¶ But Moses said unto God, Who am [d]I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he answered, [e]Certainly I will be with thee: and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee, After that thou hast brought the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13 Then Moses said unto God, Behold, when I shall come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you: if they say unto me, What is his Name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God answered Moses, I [f]AM THAT I AM. Also he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God spake further unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you: this is my Name forever, and this is my memorial unto all ages.
39 They answered, and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye go about to kill me, a man that have told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the works of your father. Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, which is God.
42 Therefore Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, then would ye love me: for I proceeded forth, and came from God, neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
43 Why do ye not understand my [a]talk? because ye cannot hear my word.
44 (A)Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he hath been a murderer from the [b]beginning, and [c]abode not in the [d]truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, then speaketh he of his [e]own: for he is a liar, and the [f]father thereof.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 [g]Which of you can rebuke me of sin? and if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 (B)He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
48 [h]Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?
49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil, but I honor my Father, and ye have dishonored me.
50 And I seek not mine own praise: but there is one that [i]seeketh it, and judgeth.
51 [j]Verily, verily I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never [k]see death.
52 [l]Then said the Jews to him, Now know we that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets: and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death.
53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the Prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
54 [m]Jesus answered, If I honor myself, mine honor is [n]nothing worth: it is my Father that honoreth me, whom ye say, that he is your God.
55 [o]Yet ye have not known him: but I know him, and if I should say I know him not, I should be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his word.
56 [p]Your father Abraham [q]rejoiced to see my [r]day, and he [s]saw it, and was glad.
57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily I say unto you, before Abraham was, I [t]am.
59 [u]Then took they up stones to cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the Temple: And he passed through the midst of them, and so went his way.
