Psalm 110

Sit at My Right Hand

A Psalm of David.

110 (A)The Lord says to my Lord:
    (B)“Sit at my right hand,
(C)until I make your enemies your (D)footstool.”

The Lord sends forth (E)from Zion
    (F)your mighty scepter.
    (G)Rule in the midst of your enemies!
(H)Your people will (I)offer themselves freely
    on the day of your (J)power,[a]
    in (K)holy garments;[b]
from the womb of the morning,
    the dew of your youth will be yours.[c]
(L)The Lord has (M)sworn
    and will (N)not change his mind,
(O)“You are (P)a priest (Q)forever
    after the order of (R)Melchizedek.”

The Lord is at your (S)right hand;
    he will (T)shatter kings on (U)the day of his wrath.
He will (V)execute judgment among the nations,
    (W)filling them with corpses;
he will (X)shatter chiefs[d]
    over the wide earth.
He will (Y)drink from the brook by the way;
    therefore he will lift up his head.

Exodus 3:7-15

Then the Lord said, (A)“I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their (B)taskmasters. I know their sufferings, and (C)I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians and (D)to bring them up out of that land to a (E)good and broad land, a land (F)flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (G)the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. And now, behold, (H)the cry of the people of Israel has come to me, and I have also seen the (I)oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. 10 (J)Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, (K)“Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 He said, (L)“But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, (M)you shall serve God on this mountain.”

13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: (N)I am has sent me to you.’” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The Lord,[b] the (O)God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is (P)my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.

John 8:39-59

You Are of Your Father the Devil

39 They answered him, (A)“Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, (B)“If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works Abraham did, 40 but now (C)you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth (D)that I heard from God. This is not what Abraham did. 41 You are doing the works your father did.” They said to him, (E)“We were not born of sexual immorality. We have (F)one Father—even God.” 42 Jesus said to them, (G)“If God were your Father, you would love me, for (H)I came from God and (I)I am here. (J)I came not of my own accord, but (K)he sent me. 43 (L)Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot (M)bear to hear my word. 44 (N)You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. (O)He was a murderer from the beginning, and (P)does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. (Q)When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. 46 Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? 47 (R)Whoever is of God hears the words of God. (S)The reason why you do not hear them is that (T)you are not of God.”

Before Abraham Was, I Am

48 The Jews answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and (U)have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon, but (V)I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. 50 Yet (W)I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. 51 Truly, truly, (X)I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never (Y)see death.” 52 The Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! (Z)Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet (AA)you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never (AB)taste death.’ 53 (AC)Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, (AD)“If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. (AE)It is my Father who glorifies me, (AF)of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’[a] 55 But (AG)you have not known him. (AH)I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be (AI)a liar (AJ)like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. 56 (AK)Your father Abraham (AL)rejoiced (AM)that he would see my day. (AN)He saw it and was glad.” 57 So the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?”[b] 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, (AO)I am.” 59 So (AP)they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.
