Psalm 110:1-4

The Priestly King

A psalm of David.

110 This is the declaration of the Lord
to my Lord:
‘Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.’(A)
The Lord will extend your mighty sceptre from Zion.
Rule[a] over your surrounding[b] enemies.(B)
Your people will volunteer
on your day of battle.[c](C)
In holy splendour, from the womb of the dawn,
the dew of your youth belongs to you.[d](D)
The Lord has sworn an oath and will not take it back:
‘You are a priest for ever
according to the pattern of Melchizedek.’(E)

Job 19:23-27

23 I wish that my words were written down,
that they were recorded on a scroll
24 or were inscribed in stone for ever
by an iron stylus and lead!
25 But I know that my Redeemer lives,[a](A)
and at the end he will stand on the dust.(B)
26 Even after my skin has been destroyed,[b]
yet I will see God in[c] my flesh.(C)
27 I will see him myself;
my eyes will look at him, and not as a stranger.[d]
My heart longs[e] within me.(D)

1 Timothy 3:14-16

The Mystery of Godliness

14 I write these things to you, hoping to come(A) to you soon. 15 But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household,(B) which is the church of the living God,(C) the pillar and foundation of the truth.(D) 16 And most certainly, the mystery of godliness(E) is great:

He[a] was manifested in the flesh,(F)
vindicated in the Spirit,(G)
seen by angels,
preached among the nations,
believed(H) on in the world,
taken up in glory.(I)
