Revised Common Lectionary (Complementary)
The Lord Gives Dominion to the King.
A Psalm of David.
110 (A)The Lord says to my Lord:
“(B)Sit at My right hand
Until I make (C)Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
2 The Lord will stretch forth Your strong (D)scepter from Zion, saying,
“(E)Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
3 Your (F)people [a]will volunteer freely in the day of Your [b]power;
(G)In [c]holy array, from the womb of the dawn,
[d]Your youth are to You as the (H)dew.
4 (I)The Lord has sworn and will (J)not [e]change His mind,
“You are a (K)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
5 The Lord is (L)at Your right hand;
He [f]will (M)shatter kings in the (N)day of His wrath.
6 He will (O)judge among the nations,
He [g]will fill them with (P)corpses,
He [h]will (Q)shatter the [i]chief men over a broad country.
7 He will (R)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (S)lift up His head.
7 The Lord said, “I have surely (A)seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. 8 So I have come down (B)to deliver them from the [a]power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a (C)good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of (D)the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. 9 Now, behold, (E)the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.
The Mission of Moses
10 Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, (F)so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.” 11 But Moses said to God, “(G)Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” 12 And He said, “Certainly (H)I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: (I)when you have brought the people out of Egypt, (J)you shall [b]worship God at this mountain.”
13 Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “[c](K)I AM WHO [d]I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘[e]I AM has sent me to you.’” 15 God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘(L)The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My (M)memorial-name [f]to all generations.
39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is (A)our father.” Jesus *said to them, “(B)If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 But as it is, (C)you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has (D)told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of (E)your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; (F)we have one Father: God.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, (G)you would love Me, (H)for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have (I)not even come on My own initiative, but [a](J)He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand [b](K)what I am saying? It is because you cannot (L)hear My word. 44 (M)You are of (N)your father the devil, and (O)you want to do the desires of your father. (P)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because (Q)there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks [c]a lie, he (R)speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of [d]lies. 45 But because (S)I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If (T)I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 (U)He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”
48 (V)The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a (W)Samaritan and (X)have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not (Y)have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50 But (Z)I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges. 51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone (AA)keeps My word he will never (AB)see death.” 52 (AC)The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (AD)have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone (AE)keeps My word, he will never (AF)taste of death.’ 53 Surely You (AG)are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, “(AH)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; (AI)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; 55 and (AJ)you have not come to know Him, (AK)but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be (AL)a liar like you, (AM)but I do know Him and (AN)keep His word. 56 (AO)Your father Abraham (AP)rejoiced [e]to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57 (AQ)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham [f]was born, (AR)I am.” 59 Therefore they (AS)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus [g](AT)hid Himself and went out of the temple.
