Readings for Lent and Easter
63 Now[a] the men who were holding Jesus[b] under guard began to mock him and beat him. 64 They[c] blindfolded him and asked him repeatedly,[d] “Prophesy! Who hit you?”[e] 65 They also said many other things against him, reviling[f] him.
66 When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law.[g] Then[h] they led Jesus[i] away to their council[j] 67 and said, “If[k] you are the Christ,[l] tell us.” But he said to them, “If[m] I tell you, you will not[n] believe, 68 and if[o] I ask you, you will not[p] answer. 69 But from now on[q] the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand[r] of the power[s] of God.” 70 So[t] they all said, “Are you the Son of God,[u] then?” He answered[v] them, “You say[w] that I am.” 71 Then[x] they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselves[y] from his own lips!”[z]
