Song of Solomon 4-5

1 The praises of the Church. 7 She is without blemish in his sight. 9 The love of Christ towards her.

Behold, thou art [a]fair, my love: behold, thou art fair: thine eyes are like the doves: among thy locks (A)thine hair is like the [b]flock of goats, which look down from the mountain of Gilead.

Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep in good order, which go up from the washing: which every one brings out twins, and none is barren among them.

Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy talk is comely: thy temples are within thy locks as a piece of a pomegranate.

Thy neck is as the tower of David built for defense: a thousand shields hang therein, and all the targets of the strong men.

Thy two [c]breasts are as two young roes that are twins, feeding among the lilies.

Until the day break, and the shadows fly away, I will go into the mountain of myrrh, and to the mountain of incense.

Thou art all fair my love, and there is no spot in thee.

[d]Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, even with me from Lebanon, and look from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir, and Hermon, from the dens of the lions, and from the mountains of the leopards.

My [e]sister, my spouse, thou hast wounded mine heart: thou hast wounded mine heart with one of thine [f]eyes, and with a chain of thy neck.

10 My sister, my Spouse, how fair is thy love? how much better is thy love than wine? and the savor of thine ointments than all spices?

11 Thy [g]lips, my Spouse, drop as honeycombs: honey and milk are under thy tongue, and the savor of thy garment is as the savor of Lebanon.

12 My sister, my spouse is as a garden enclosed, as a spring shut up, and a fountain sealed up.

13 Thy plants are as an orchard of pomegranates with sweet fruits, as camphire, spikenard,

14 Even spikenard, and saffron: calamus, and cinnamon, with all the trees of incense, myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices.

15 [h]O fountain of the gardens, O well of living waters, and the springs of Lebanon.

16 Arise, O [i]North, and come, O South, and blow on my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out: let my well-beloved come to his garden, and eat his pleasant fruit.

1 Christ calleth his Church to the participation of all his treasures. 2 She heareth his voice. 3 She confesseth her nakedness. 10 She praiseth Christ her husband.

I am come into my [j]garden, my sister, my spouse, I gathered my myrrh with my spice: I ate mine honeycomb with mine honey, I drank my wine with my milk: eat, O friends, drink, and make you merry, O well-beloved.

[k]I sleep, but mine heart waketh, it is the voice of my well-beloved that knocketh, saying, Open unto me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for mine head is full of dew, and my locks with the drops of the [l]night.

I have put off my [m]coat, how shall I defile [put] it on? I have washed my feet, how shall I defile them?

My well-beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and [n]mine heart was affectioned toward him.

I rose up to open to my well-beloved, and mine hands did drop down myrrh, and my [o]fingers pure myrrh upon the handles of the bar.

I opened to my well-beloved: but my well-beloved was gone and past: mine heart was gone when he did speak: I sought him, but I could not find him: I called him, but he answered me not.

The [p]watchmen that were about the city, found me: they smote me, and wounded me: the watchmen of the walls took away my veil from me.

I charge you, [q]O daughters of Jerusalem, if you find my well-beloved, that you tell him that I am sick of love.

[r]O the fairest among women, what is thy well-beloved more than other well-beloved? what is thy well-beloved more than another lover, that thou dost so charge us?

10 My well-beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest of ten thousand.

11 His [s]head is as fine gold, his locks curled, and black as a raven.

12 His eyes are like doves upon the rivers of waters, which are washed with milk, and remain by the full vessels.

13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, and as sweet flowers, and his lips like lilies dropping down pure myrrh.

14 His hands as rings of gold set with the [t]chrysolite, his belly like white ivory covered with sapphires.

15 His legs are as pillars of marble set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.

16 His mouth is as sweet things, and he is wholly delectable: this is my well-beloved, and this is my lover, O daughters of Jerusalem.

17 [u]O the fairest among women, whither is thy well-beloved gone? whither is thy well-beloved turned aside, that we may seek him with thee?

Galatians 3

1 He rebuketh them, for suffering themselves to be drawn from the grace of free justification in Christ, most lively set out unto them. 6 He bringeth in Abraham’s example, 10 declaring the effects, 21 and causes of the giving of the Law.

[a]O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, to whom Jesus Christ before was described in your [b]sight, and among you crucified?

This only would I learn of you, Received ye the [c]Spirit by the works of the Law, or by the hearing of [d]faith preached?

[e]Are ye so foolish, that after ye have begun in the Spirit, ye would now be made perfect by the [f]flesh?

[g]Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if so be it be even in vain.

[h]He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it through the works of the Law, or by the hearing of faith preached?

[i]Yea rather as [j]Abraham believed God, and it was (A)imputed to him for righteousness.

[k]Know ye therefore, that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

[l]For the Scripture foreseeing, that God would justify the Gentiles through faith, preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, (B)[m]In thee shall all the Gentiles be [n]blessed.

[o]So then they which be of faith, are blessed with [p]faithful Abraham.

10 [q]For as many as are of the works of the Law, are under the curse: [r]For it is written, (C)Cursed is every man that continueth not in all things, which are written in the book of the Law, to do them.

11 [s]And that no man is justified by the Law in the sight of God, it is evident: (D)for the just shall live by faith.

12 [t]And the Law is not of faith: but (E)the man that shall do those things, shall live in them.

13 [u]Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law, made a curse for us, ([v]for it is written, (F)[w]Cursed is everyone that hangeth on tree.)

14 [x]That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15 [y]Brethren, I speak as [z]men do: (G)though it be but a man’s covenant, when it is [aa]confirmed, yet no man doth abrogate it, or addeth anything thereto,

16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, and to the seeds, as speaking of many: but, And to thy seed, as of one, [ab]which is [ac]Christ.

17 [ad]And this I say, that the covenant that was confirmed afore of God [ae]in respect of Christ, the [af]Law which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

18 [ag]For if the [ah]inheritance be of the Law, it is no more by the promise, but God gave it freely unto Abraham by promise.

19 [ai]Wherefore then serveth the Law? It was added because of the [aj]transgressions, [ak]till the seed came, unto the which the promise was made: [al]and it was [am]ordained by [an]Angels in the hand of a Mediator.

20 Now a Mediator is not a Mediator of one: [ao]but God is one.

21 [ap]Is the Law then against the promises of God? God forbid: For if there had been a Law given which could have given life, surely righteousness should have been by the Law.

22 But the [aq]Scripture hath (H)concluded [ar]all under sin, that the [as]promise by the faith of Jesus Christ should be given to them that believe.

23 [at]But before faith came, we were kept under the Law, as under a garrison, and shut up unto [au]that faith, which should afterward be revealed.

24 Wherefore the Law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that we might be made righteous by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 [av]For ye are all the sons of God by faith, in Christ Jesus.

27 [aw]For all ye that are [ax]baptized into Christ, have [ay]put on Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Grecian: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female: for ye are all [az]one in Christ Jesus.

29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs by promise.
