Deuteronomy 22-24

22 “You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep go astray and withdraw yourself from them. Bring them back to your brother.

“And if your brother is not near you, or if you do not know him, then you shall bring it into your house. And it shall remain with you until your brother seeks after it. Then you shall deliver it back to him.

“You shall do likewise with his donkey. And so shall you do with his clothing, and with all lost things of your brother which he has lost. If you have found them, you shall not hide them.

“You shall not see your brother’s donkey, or his ox, fall down on the way and withdraw yourself from them. Lift them up with him.

“The woman shall not wear that which pertains to the man, nor shall a man put on woman’s clothing. For all who do so are abomination to the LORD your God.

“If you find a bird’s nest in the way, in any tree, or on the ground (young or eggs) and the mother sitting upon the young or upon the eggs, you shall not take the mother with the young.

“If you must, let the mother go and take the young for yourself, so that you may prosper and prolong your days.

“When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet on your roof, so that you do not shed blood upon your house if any man falls from there.

“You shall not sow your vineyard with diverse kinds of seeds, lest you defile the increase of the seed which you have sown, and the fruit of the vineyard.

10 “You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.

11 “You shall not wear a mixed weave, such as wool and linen together.

12 “You shall make fringes for yourself upon the four quarters of your covering with which you cover yourself.

13 “If a man takes a wife, and after he has lain with her, hates her,

14 “and then says slanderous things about her, brings a bad name upon her, and says, ‘I took this wife, and when I came to her, I did not find her to be a maid’,

15 “then the father of the maid and her mother shall take and bring the signs of the maid’s virginity to the elders of the city, to the gate.

16 “And the maid’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man to be his wife and he hates her.

17 ‘And lo, he says slanderous things about her, saying, “I did not find your daughter to be a maid.” Lo, these are the signs of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

18 “Then the elders of the city shall take that man and discipline him,

19 “and shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the maid, because he has brought a bad name upon a maid of Israel. And she shall be his wife. And he may not divorce her the rest of his life.

20 “But if this thing is true, meaning the maid is not found to be a virgin,

21 “then they shall bring forth the maid to the door of her father’s house. And the men of her city shall stone her with stones until death. For she has worked folly in Israel by playing the whore in her father’s house. So you shall put evil away from among you.

22 “If a man is found lying with a woman who is married to a man, then both of them shall die, the man who lays with the wife and the wife. So you shall put away evil from Israel.

23 “If a maid is engaged to a husband, and a man finds her in the town and lies with her,

24 “then you shall bring them both out to the gates of the same city and shall stone them with stones until death, the maid because she did not cry out in the city and the man because he has humbled his neighbor’s wife. So you shall put away evil from among you.

25 “But if a man finds an engaged maid in the field and forces her, and lies with her, then the man who lays with her shall die alone:

26 “And you shall do nothing to the maid, because there is in the maid no cause for death. For as when a man rises against his neighbor and mortally wounds him, so is this matter.

27 “For he found her in the fields, the engaged maid cried out, and there was no one to save her.

28 “If a man finds a maid who is not engaged, and takes her and lies with her, and they are found,

29 “then the man who lays with her shall give fifty shekels of silver to the maid’s father. And she shall be his wife, because he has humbled her. He cannot divorce her the rest of his life.

30 “No man shall take his father’s wife or shall uncover his father’s extremity.”

23 “No one who is hurt by crushing, or who has had his private parts cut off, shall enter into the Congregation of the LORD.

“A bastard shall not enter into the Congregation of the LORD. Up to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the Congregation of the LORD.

“The Ammonites and the Moabites shall not enter into the Congregation of the LORD. Up to their tenth generation they shall not enter into the Congregation of the LORD, forever,

“because they did not meet you with bread and water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired Balaam — the son of Beor, of Pethor in Aram-naharaim — against you, to curse you.

“Nevertheless, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam. But the LORD your God turned the curse to a blessing for you because the LORD your God loved you.

“You shall not seek their peace, nor their prosperity all your days, forever.

“You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. Nor shall you abhor an Egyptian, because you were a stranger in his land.

The children who are begotten of those in their third generation shall enter into the Congregation of the LORD.

“When you go out with the army against your enemies, then keep yourself from all wickedness.

10 “If there is anyone among you who is unclean by that which comes to him by night, he shall go out of the camp, and shall not enter the camp.

11 “But at evening, he shall wash with water. And when the Sun is down, he shall enter the camp.

12 “You shall also have a place outside the camp to which you shall go out.

13 “And you shall have an implement among your weapons. And when you would sit down outside, you shall dig with it. And upon returning, you shall cover your excrements.

14 “For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give you your enemies before you. Therefore, your camp shall be holy, so that He sees no filthy thing in you, and turn away from you.

15 “You shall not deliver the servant to his master, who has escaped from his master to you.

16 “He shall dwell with you, amongxus you, in whatever place he shall choose, in one of your cities he likes best. You shall not trouble him.

17 “There shall be no whore from the daughters of Israel. Nor shall there be a whore keeper from the sons of Israel.

18 “You shall bring neither the price of a whore nor the price of a dog into the House of the LORD your God, for any vow. For both of these are abomination to the LORD your God.

19 “You shall not charge interest to your brother — on money, on meat, on anything that may be lent with interest.

20 “You may lend with interest to a stranger. But you shall not lend with interest to your brother, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you set your hand to in the land to which you go to possess.

21 “When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not be slow to pay it. For the LORD your God will surely require it of you. And so it would be sin to you.

22 “But when you abstain from vowing, it shall be no sin to you.

23 “That which has gone out of your lips you shall keep and perform, as you have vowed it willingly to the LORD your God. You have spoken it with your mouth.

24 “When you come to your neighbor’s vineyard, then you may eat grapes at your pleasure, as much as you will. But you shall put none in your container.

25 “When you come to your neighbor’s corn, you may pluck the ears with your hand. But you shall not move a sickle to your neighbor’s corn.”

24 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, if so be she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some filthiness in her, then let him write her a bill of divorcement and put it in her hand and send her out of his house.

“And when she has departed out of his house, and gone her way, and marries another man —

“if the latter husband hates her and writes her a letter of divorcement and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter man who took her for his wife dies —

“her first husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is abomination in the sight of the LORD. And you shall not cause the land to sin which the LORD your God gives you to inherit.

“When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go to war. Nor shall he be charged with any business, but shall be free at home for one year and rejoice with his wife whom he has taken.

“No man shall take the lower or the upper millstone to pledge. For this gage is his living.

“If any man is found stealing any of his brothers from the children of Israel, and makes merchandise of him, or sells him, that thief shall die. So shall you put evil away from among you.

“Be careful of the plague of leprosy, so that you observe diligently and do according to all that the priests of the Levites shall teach you. Be careful you do as I commanded them.

“Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam on the way, after you had come out of Egypt.

10 “When you shall lend your neighbor anything, you shall not go into his house to fetch his pledge.

11 “But you shall stand outside. And the man who borrowed it from you shall bring the pledge out of the doors to you.

12 “Furthermore, if it is a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge,

13 “but you shall restore to him the pledge when the Sun goes down, so that he may sleep in his clothes and bless you. And it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

14 “You shall not oppress a hired servant who is needy and poor, from your brothers or from the stranger who is in your land within your gates.

15 “You shall give him his wages for his day and the Sun shall not go down upon it (for he is poor and with such sustains his life), lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it is sin to you.

16 “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children put to death for the fathers. But every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

17 “You shall not pervert the right of the stranger or of the fatherless, nor take a widow’s clothes to pledge.

18 “But remember that you were a servant in Egypt, and how the LORD your God delivered you from there. Therefore, I command you to do this thing.

19 “When you cut down your harvest in your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to fetch it. It shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the works of your hands.

20 “When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again. It shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

21 “When you gather your vineyard, you shall not glean afterward. They shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.

22 “And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt. Therefore, I command you to do this thing.”

Mark 14:1-26

14 And two days before the Feast of the Passover, and of Unleavened Bread, the chief priests and scribes sought how they might take Jesus secretly, and put Him to death.

“But,” they said, “Not on the feast day, or else there may be unrest among the people.”

And when He was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at table, there came a woman with a box of ointment (of spikenard, very costly). And she broke the box and poured it on His head.

Therefore some whispered angrily among themselves, and said, “To what end is this waste of ointment?

“For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denari, and the money given to the poor.” And they murmured against her.

But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble yourselves with her? She has done a good work for Me.

“For you have the poor with you always. And when you will you may do them good. But Me you shall not have always.

“She has done what she could. She came beforehand to anoint My body for the burying.

“Truly I say to you, wherever this Gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she has done, shall be spoken of in remembrance of her.”

10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went away to the chief priests, to betray Him to them.

11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised that they would give him money. Therefore, he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.

12 Now the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover, His disciples said to Him, “Where will You have us go and prepare, that You may eat the Passover?”

13 Then He sent forth two of His disciples, and said to them, “Go into the city, and there a man shall meet you bearing a pitcher of water. Follow him.

14 “And wherever he goes in, say to the good man of the house, ‘The Master says, “Where is the lodging where I shall eat the Passover with My disciples?”’

15 “And he will show you an upper chamber, which is large, trimmed and prepared. Make it ready for us there.”

16 So His disciples went forth, and came to the city, and found all as He had said to them, and made ready the Passover.

17 And in the evening, He came with the twelve.

18 And as they sat at table and ate, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, that one of you who eats with Me shall betray Me.”

19 Then they began to be sorrowful and to say to Him one by one, “Is it I?” And another, “Is it I?”

20 And He answered and said to them, “It is one of the twelve who dips with Me in the platter.

21 “Truly the Son of Man goes His way, as it is written of Him. But woe be to that man, by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It had been good for that man if he had never been born.”

22 And as they ate, Jesus took the bread. And when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them and said, “Take. Eat. This is My body.”

23 Also, He took the cup. And when He had given thanks, He gave it to them. And they all drank of it.

24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many.

25 “Truly I say to you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it new, in the Kingdom of God.”

26 And when they had sung a Psalm, they went out to the mount of Olives.
