Genesis 13-15

13 1 Abram departeth out of Egypt. 4 He calleth upon the Name of the Lord. 11 Lot departeth from him. 13 The wickedness of the Sodomites. 14 The promise made to Abram is renewed. 18 Abram buildeth an altar to the Lord.

Then [a]Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him toward the South.

And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold.

And he went on his journey from the South toward [b]Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

Unto the place of the (A)altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the Name of the Lord.

¶ And Lot also, who went with Abram, had sheep, and cattle and tents,

So that the land could not [c]bear them, that they might dwell together: for their (B)substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

Also there was debate between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle, and the herdsmen of Lot’s cattle, (and the [d]Canaanites and the Perizzites dwelleth at that time in the land.)

Then said Abram unto Lot, Let there be no [e]strife, I pray thee, between thee and me, neither between mine herdsmen and thine herdsmen: for we be brethren.

Is not the whole land before thee? depart I pray thee from me: if thou wilt [f]take the left hand, then I will go to the right: or if thou go to the right hand, then I will take the left.

10 So when Lot lifted up his eyes, he saw that all the plain of Jordan was watered everywhere (for before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, it was as the [g]garden of the Lord like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.)

11 Then Lot chose unto him all the plain of Jordan, and took his journey from the East: and they departed the [h]one from the other.

12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot abode in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent even unto Sodom.

13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and exceeding [i]sinners against the Lord.

14 ¶ Then the Lord said unto [j]Abram, (after that Lot was departed from him) Lift up thine eyes now, and look from the place where thou art, Northward, and Southward, and Eastward, and Westward:

15 For all (C)the land which thou seest, will I give unto thee, and to thy seed [k]forever,

16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed be numbered.

17 Arise, walk through the land, in the length thereof, and breadth thereof: for I will give it unto thee.

18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelled in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord.

14 12 In the overthrow of Sodom Lot is taken prisoner. 16 Abram delivereth him. 18 Melchizedek cometh to meet him. 23 Abram would not be enriched by the king of Sodom.

And in the days of Amraphel king of [l]Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the [m]nations:

These men made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.

All these [n]joined together in the valley of [o]Siddim, which is the [p]salt Sea.

Twelve years were they subject to Chedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the [q]Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in [r]Shaveh Kiriathaim,

And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto the plain of El Paran, which is by the wilderness.

And they returned and came to En Mishpat, which is Kadesh, and [s]smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites that dwelled in Hazezon Tamar.

Then went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar: and they joined battle with them in the valley of Siddim,

To wit, with Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar: four kings against five.

10 Now the [t]valley of Siddim was full of slime pits, and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and [u]fell there: and the residue fled to the mountain.

11 And they took all the substance of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their vittles and went their way.

12 They [v]took Lot also Abram’s brother’s son and his substance (for he dwelt at Sodom) and departed.

13 ¶ Then came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew, which dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner, which were [w]confederate with Abram.

14 When Abram heard that his brother was taken, he [x]brought forth of them that were born and brought up in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

15 Then he and his servants divided themselves against them by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left side of [y]Damascus,

16 And he recovered all the substance, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also and the people.

17 ¶ After that he returned from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and of the kings that were with him, came the King of Sodom forth to meet him in the valley of Shaveh, which is the (D)King’s dale.

18 And (E)Melchizedek King of Salem [z]brought forth bread and wine: and he was a Priest of the most high God.

19 Therefore he [aa]blessed him, saying, Blessed art thou, Abram, of God most high, Possessor of heaven and earth,

20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thine hand. (F)And Abram gave him tithes of all.

21 Then the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the [ab]persons, and take the goods to thyself.

22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, [ac]I have lifted up mine hand unto the Lord the most high God possessor of heaven and earth,

23 [ad]That I will not take of all that is thine, so much as a thread or shoe latchet, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich,

24 [ae]Save only that, which the young men have eaten, and the parts of the men which went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre: let them take their parts.

15 1 The Lord is Abram’s defense and reward. 6 He is justified by faith. 13 The servitude and deliverance out of Egypt is declared. 18 The land of Canaan is promised the fourth time.

After these things, the [af]word of the Lord came unto Abram in a (G)vision, saying, Fear not, Abram, I am thy buckler, and thine exceeding (H)great reward.

And Abram said, [ag]O Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of mine house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Again Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: wherefore lo, a servant of mine house shall be mine heir.

Then behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This man shall not be thine heir, but one that shall come out of thine own bowels, he shall be thine heir.

Moreover he brought him forth and said, (I)Look up now unto heaven, and tell the stars if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

And Abram (J)believed the Lord, and he counted that to him for righteousness.

Again he said unto him, I am the Lord, that brought thee out of (K)Ur, of the Chaldeans, to give thee this land to inherit it.

And he said, O Lord God, [ah]Whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

Then he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, a turtle dove also and a pigeon.

10 So he took all these unto him, and [ai]divided them in the midst, and laid every piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.

11 Then fowls fell on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

12 And when the sun went down, there fell an heavy sleep unto Abram: and lo, [aj]a very fearful darkness fell upon him.

13 Then he said to Abram, (L)Know for a surety, that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, (M)[ak]four hundred years, and shall serve them: and they entreat them evil.

14 Notwithstanding, the nation whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

15 But thou shalt go unto thy fathers in peace, and shalt be buried in a good age.

16 And in the [al]fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the [am]wickedness of the Amorites is not yet full.

17 Also when the sun went down, there was a darkness: and behold, a smoking furnace, and a firebrand, which went between those pieces.

18 (N)In that same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land: (O)from the river of Egypt unto the great river [an]Euphrates.

19 Then Kenites, and the Kenezzites, and the Kadmonites,

20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

21 The Amorites also, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

Matthew 5:1-26

1 Who are blessed. 13 The Apostles are the salt and light of the world. 14 The city set on an hill. 15 The candle. 16 Good works. 19 The fulfilling of Christ’s commandments. 21 What killing is. 23 Reconciliation is set before sacrifice. 27 Adultery. 29 The plucking out of the eye. 30 Cutting off of the hand. 31 The bill of divorcement. 33 Not to swear. 44 To love our enemies. 48 Perfectness.

And when he saw the multitude, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came to him.

[a]And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

(A)Blessed are the [b]poor in [c]spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

(B)Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

(C)Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

(D)Blessed are they which hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the (E)[d]pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

10 Blessed are they (F)which suffer persecution for righteousness’ sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 (G)Blessed shall ye be when men revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you for my sake, falsely.

12 Rejoice and be glad, for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the Prophets which were before you.

13 (H)Ye [e]are the salt of the [f]earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be [g]salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

14 Ye are the [h]light of the world. A city that is set on an hill, cannot be hid.

15 (I)Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 (J)Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven.

17 [i]Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets. I am not come to destroy them, but to [j]fulfill them.

18 (K)For truly I say unto you, Till heaven and earth perish, one jot or one tittle of the Law shall not escape, till all things be fulfilled.

19 (L)[k]Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and teach men so, he shall be called the [l]least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall observe and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I say unto you, except your righteousness (M)exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

21 [m]Ye have heard that it was said unto them of the old time, (N)Thou shalt not kill: for whosoever killeth shall be culpable of judgment.

22 But I say unto you, whosoever is angry with his brother unadvisedly, shall be [n]culpable [o]of judgment. And whosoever saith unto his brother, Raca, shall be worthy to be punished by the [p]Council. And whosoever shall say, Fool, shall be worthy to be punished with [q]hell [r]fire.

23 [s]If then thou bring thy gift to the [t]altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee,

24 Leave there thine offering before the altar, and go thy way: first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

25 (O)[u]Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him, lest thine adversary deliver thee to the Judge, and the Judge deliver thee to the sergeant, and thou be cast into prison.

26 Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt not come out thence, till thou hast [v]paid the utmost farthing.
