Old/New Testament
24 Again, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, came the Word of the LORD to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, write the name of the day, of this same day. The king of Babel set himself against Jerusalem this same day.
3 “Therefore, speak a parable to the rebellious House, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Prepare a pot. Prepare it, and also pour water into it.
4 “Gather pieces into it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder. Fill it with the choice bones.
5 “Take one of the best sheep, also, and burn the bones under it. Make it boil well and simmer its bones inside.”
6 ‘Because the Lord GOD says thus, “Woe to the bloody city, to the pot, whose scum is inside, and whose scum has not gone out of it. Bring it out, piece by piece. Let no lot fall upon it.
7 “For her blood is in the midst of her. She set it upon a high rock and did not pour it upon the ground to cover it with dust,
8 “so that it might cause wrath to arise and take vengeance. I have set her blood upon a high rock so that it would not be covered.”
9 ‘Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “Woe to the bloody city! For I will make the burning great.
10 “Heap on much wood! Kindle the fire! Consume the flesh and cast in spice! And let the bones be burnt!
11 “Then set it upon its coals empty, so that the bronze of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.
12 “She has wearied herself with lies, and her great scum did not go out of her. Therefore, her scum shall be consumed with fire!
13 “Wickedness is in your filthiness. Because I would have purged you, and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness until I have caused My wrath to light upon you.
14 “I, the LORD, have spoken it. It shall come to pass, and I will do it. I will not go back, nor will I spare, nor will I relent. According to your ways and according to your works shall they judge you,” says the LORD God.’”
15 Also the Word of the LORD came to me, saying:
16 “Son of man, behold, I take away the pleasure of your eyes from you with a plague. Still, you shall neither mourn nor weep, nor shall your tears run down.
17 “Cease from sighing. Make no mourning for the dead. Bind the turban upon your head and put your shoes on your feet. Do not cover your lips and do not eat the bread of men.”
18 So I spoke to the people in the morning. And in the evening, my wife died. And in the morning, I did as I was Commanded.
19 And the people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things that you are doing mean for us?”
20 Then I answered them. The Word of the LORD came to me, saying:
21 “Speak to the House of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will pollute My Sanctuary, the pride of your power, the pleasure of your eyes, and your heart’s desire. And your sons and your daughters whom you have left shall fall by the sword.
22 “And you shall do as I have done. You shall neither cover your lips nor shall you eat the bread of men.
23 “And your turban shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet. You shall neither mourn nor weep, but you shall pine away in your iniquities and mourn one toward another.
24 “Thus Ezekiel is a sign to you. According to all that he has done, you shall do. And when this comes, you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”’
25 “As for you, son of man, shall it not be—on the day when I take their power from them, the joy of their honor, the pleasure of their eyes, and the desire of their heart, their sons and their daughters—
26 “that he who escapes on that day shall come to you with that which he has heard with his ears?
27 “On that day your mouth shall be opened to him who has escaped; and you shall speak and no longer be dumb. And you shall be a sign to them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”
25 The Word of the LORD came again to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them,
3 “and say to the Ammonites, ‘Hear the Word of the Lord GOD! Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you said, ‘Ha, ha!’ against My Sanctuary when it was defiled, and against the land of Israel when it was desolate, and against the House of Judah when they went into captivity,
4 “behold, therefore, I will deliver you to the men of the East for a possession. And they shall set their palaces in you and make their dwellings in you. They shall eat your fruit and they shall drink your milk.
5 “And I will make Rabbah a dwelling place for camels, and the Ammonites a sheepcote. And you shall know that I am the LORD.”
6 ‘For thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you have clapped the hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your spite against the land of Israel,
7 “behold, therefore, I will stretch out My Hand upon you, and will deliver you to be plundered by the heathen. And I will root you out from the people; and I will cause you to perish from the countries. I will destroy you. And you shall know that I am the LORD.”
8 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because Moab and Seir say, ‘Behold, the House of Judah is like all the heathen,’
9 “therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab, of the cities, of its cities on its frontiers with the pleasant country: Beth-Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kirjathaim.
10 “And I will give it and the Ammonites to the men of the East as a possession, so that the Ammonites shall no longer be remembered among the nations.
11 “And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD.”
12 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because of what Edom has done by taking vengeance upon the House of Judah, and committing great offense, and avenging himself upon them,”
13 ‘therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “I will also stretch out My Hand upon Edom and destroy man and beast from it. And I will make it desolate from Teman. And those of Dedan shall fall by the sword.
14 “And I will execute My vengeance upon Edom by the hand of My people Israel. And they shall do in Edom according to My anger, and according to My indignation. And they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord GOD.
15 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because the Philistines have executed vengeance, and avenged themselves with a spiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred,”
16 ‘therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “behold, I will stretch out My Hand upon the Philistines. And I will cut off the Cherethims and destroy the remnant of the seacoast.
17 “And I will execute great vengeance upon them with rebukes of My indignation. And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay My vengeance upon them.”’”
26 And in the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the Word of the LORD came to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem, ‘Aha, the gate of the people is broken. It has turned to me. Seeing she is desolate, I shall be replenished,’
3 “therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I come against you, O Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea mounts up with its waves.
4 ‘And they shall destroy the walls of Tyre and break down her towers. I will also scrape her dust from her and make her like the top of a rock.
5 ‘You shall be for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea. For I have spoken it,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘And it shall be plunder for the nations.
6 ‘And her daughters who are in the field shall be killed by the sword. And they shall know that I am the LORD.’”
7 For thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will bring Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel upon Tyre, a king of kings from the North, with horses and with chariots and with horsemen and with a multitude of many people.
8 “He shall kill your daughters in the field with the sword. And he shall make a fort against you, and cast a siege mound against you, and lift up the shield against you.
9 “He shall set his engines of war against your walls and break down your towers with his weapons.
10 “The dust of his horses shall cover you, because of their multitude. Your walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into your gates, as into the entry of a city that is broken down.
11 “With the hooves of his horses he shall tread down all your streets. He shall kill the people by the sword; and the pillars of your strength shall fall down to the ground.
12 “And they shall rob your riches and spoil your merchandise. And they shall break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses. And they shall cast your stones and your timber and your dust into the midst of the water.
13 “Thus I will cause the sound of your songs to cease; and the sound of your harps shall no longer be heard.
14 “I will lay you like the top of a rock. You shall be for a spreading of nets. You shall no longer be built. For I, the LORD, have spoken it,” says the Lord GOD.
15 Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyre: “Shall not the isles tremble at the sound of your fall, and at the cry of the wounded, when they shall be killed and murdered in the midst of you?
16 “Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones. They shall put away their robes, and take off their embroidered garments, and shall clothe themselves with astonishment. They shall sit upon the ground and be astonished at every moment and be amazed at you.
17 “And they shall take up a lamentation for you, and say to you, ‘O, you who was inhabited in the sea — the renowned city which was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their fear to be on all who haunt them—how you are destroyed!
18 ‘Now the isles shall be astonished on the day of your fall! Yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at your departure!’”
19 For thus says the Lord GOD: “When I shall make you a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited, and when I shall bring the deep upon you, and great waters shall cover you.
20 “then I shall cast you down with those who descend into the pit with the people of old time and shall set you in the low parts of the Earth like the old ruins — indeed with those who go down to the pit—so that you shall not be inhabited. And I shall show My Glory in the land of the living.
21 “I will bring you to nothing, and you shall be no more. Though you be sought for, you shall never be found again,” says the Lord GOD.
2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all blasphemy,
2 desire the sincere milk of the Word, as newborn babies; so that by it you may grow
3 (if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is bountiful),
4 coming to Him as to a living stone, indeed rejected by man but chosen by God and precious.
5 You also, as living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house, a holy priesthood; to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I put a Chief Cornerstone in Zion, elect and precious. And the one who believes in Him shall not be put to shame.”
7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious. But to those who are disobedient, “the Stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the Chief Cornerstone,”
8 and, “a Stone of stumbling and a Rock of offense,” to those who stumble at the Word, being disobedient. To this they were also appointed.
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are a Possession; so that you would show forth the virtues of the One Who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
10 In the past, you were not a people, yet are now the people of God, who in the past were not under mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
11 Dearly beloved, I urge you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.
12 And have your behavior be honorable among the Gentiles, so that those who speak against you as evil doers may, by your good works which they shall see, glorify God on the Day of visitation.
13 Therefore, submit yourselves to every institution of man, for the Lord’s sake; whether it is to the king (as superior),
14 or to governors (those sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do well).
15 For such is the will of God: that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men;
16 as free—yet not having freedom be a cloak for evil—but as servants of God.
17 Honor the whole brotherhood. Love brotherly fellowship. Fear God. Honor the King.
18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and courteous, but also to the crooked.
19 For this is grace: if anyone - for the sake of conscience toward God - endures grief, suffering wrongly.
20 For what praise is it, if when you are mistreated for your faults, you take it patiently? But if you suffer when you do well, and take it patiently, this is acceptable to God.
21 For you are called to this. For Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you could follow His steps.
22 “He did no sin. Nor was there guile found in His mouth.”
23 When He was reviled, He did not revile in return. When He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed it to Him Who judges righteously.
24 He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we, being dead to sin, would live in righteousness. “By His wounds you were healed.”
25 For you were as sheep, going astray, but now are returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
