Laws for Burnt Offerings

Then[a] Yahweh called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of assembly, saying, “Speak to the Israelites,[b] and say to them, ‘When a person[c] from you presents an offering to Yahweh, you shall present your offering from domestic animals, from the cattle[d] or from the flock.[e] If his offering is a burnt offering from the cattle,[f] then he must present[g] an unblemished male; he must present it at the door of the tent of assembly for his acceptance before[h] Yahweh.

“‘He[i] must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering and it will be accepted[j] for him in order to make atonement for him. He[k] must slaughter the young bull[l] before[m] Yahweh, then[n] Aaron’s sons, the priests, will present the blood and sprinkle the blood all around the altar that is at the door of the tent of assembly. Then[o] he must remove the skin of the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces. The sons of[p] Aaron the priest will put fire on the altar and arrange the wood on the fire. Then[q] Aaron’s sons, the priests, will arrange the pieces of meat,[r] the head, and the suet on the wood that is on the fire that is on the altar. Then[s] he must wash its inner parts[t] and its lower leg bones with water, and the priest will turn into smoke the whole animal on the altar as a burnt offering by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.

10 “‘But if his offering is from the flock,[u] from the sheep or from the goats for a burnt offering, he must present[v] an unblemished[w] male. 11 He[x] must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before[y] Yahweh; then[z] Aaron’s sons, the priests, will sprinkle its blood all around the altar. 12 Then[aa] he must cut it into pieces along with its head and its suet; and the priest will arrange them on the wood that is on the fire that is on the altar. 13 Then[ab] he must wash the inner parts[ac] and the lower leg bones with water and the priest shall present the whole animal and will turn it[ad] into smoke on the altar; it is a burnt offering by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.

14 “‘But if his offering for Yahweh is a burnt offering from the birds, then he must present his offering from the turtledoves or from the young doves.[ae] 15 The priest[af] will present it at the altar and must wring off its head and turn it into smoke on the altar, and its blood will be drained out on the wall[ag] of the altar. 16 He[ah] must remove its crop with its plumage and throw it to the east beside the altar on the place of the fatty ashes. 17 Then[ai] he must tear it apart by its wings but must not sever it; then[aj] the priest will turn it into smoke on the altar. It is a burnt offering by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.’”

Laws for Grain Offerings

“‘When a person[ak] brings a grain offering to Yahweh, his offering must be finely milled flour, and he must pour out oil on it and place frankincense on it. And he shall bring it to the sons of Aaron, the priests, and he[al] shall take his handful from its finely milled flour[am] and from its oil in addition to all its frankincense. The priest[an] shall turn its token portion into smoke on the altar as an offering made by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. The remainder[ao] of the grain offering belongs to[ap] Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing[aq] from the offerings made by fire for[ar] Yahweh.

“‘But if you bring a grain offering of something oven-baked, it must be of finely milled flour as ring-shaped unleavened bread mixed with oil or wafers of unleavened bread smeared with oil. If your offering is a grain offering baked on a[as] flat baking pan, it must be finely milled flour, unleavened bread mixed with oil; break it into pieces and pour out oil on it; it is a grain offering.

“‘If[at] your offering is a grain offering prepared in a cooking pan, it must be with finely milled flour in oil. And you shall bring the grain offering that is made from these things to Yahweh, and the offerer[au] shall bring it to the priest, and he shall bring it to the altar. And the priest shall take away from the grain offering its token portion, and he shall turn it into smoke on the altar as an offering made by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. 10 And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to[av] Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing[aw] from the offerings made by fire for[ax] Yahweh.

11 “‘Every grain offering you[ay] bring to Yahweh must not be made of yeasted food, because you must not turn into smoke any yeast or any honey from[az] an offering made by fire for Yahweh. 12 As an offering of the choicest portion, you[ba] may bring them to Yahweh, but they must not be offered on the altar as an appeasing fragrance. 13 Also all[bb] of your grain offerings you must season with salt; you[bc] must not omit the salt of your God’s covenant from your offering.

14 “‘And if you bring to Yahweh a grain offering of firstfruits, you must bring an ear of new grain roasted by fire, coarsely crushed ripe grain, as the grain offering of your firstfruits. 15 And you shall put oil on it and place frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. 16 The[bd] priest shall turn into smoke its token portion from its coarsely crushed grain together with all of its frankincense—it is an offering made by fire for Yahweh.’”

Laws for Fellowship Offerings

“‘Now if[be] his offering is a sacrifice of fellowship offering, if he brings it from the cattle,[bf] whether male or female, he must bring it without defect before Yahweh. He[bg] must lay his hand on the head of his offering and slaughter it at the entrance of the tent of assembly, and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood on the altar all around. He shall present[bh] from the sacrifice of the fellowship offering an offering made by fire for Yahweh consisting of[bi] the fat covering the inner parts[bj] and all the fat that is on the inner parts,[bk] the two kidneys,[bl] and the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and he must remove the lobe on the liver in addition to the kidneys. Aaron’s sons shall turn it to smoke on the altar in addition to the burnt offering that is on the wood, which is on the fire; it is an offering made by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.

“‘But if his offering for a sacrifice of fellowship offering for Yahweh is from the flock,[bm] he must bring a male or a female without defect. If he brings a sheep as his offering, then[bn] he shall present it before Yahweh, and he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and he shall slaughter it before the tent of assembly, and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle its blood on the altar all around. He shall present[bo] from the sacrifice of the fellowship offering an offering made by fire for Yahweh: he must remove its fat, the entire fat tail near the tailbone, and the fat covering the inner parts[bp] and all the fat that is on the inner parts,[bq] 10 the two kidneys,[br] and the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and he must remove the lobe on the liver in addition to the kidneys. 11 The priest[bs] shall turn it into smoke on the altar as a food offering made by fire for Yahweh.

12 “‘And[bt] if his offering is a goat, then[bu] he shall bring it before Yahweh, 13 and he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and he shall slaughter it before the tent of assembly, and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle its blood on the altar all around. 14 He shall present[bv] his offering from it as an offering made by fire for Yahweh: the fat covering the inner parts[bw] and all the fat that is on the inner parts,[bx] 15 the two kidneys,[by] and the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and he must remove the lobe on the liver in addition to the kidneys. 16 The priest[bz] shall turn them into smoke on the altar as a food offering;[ca] all the fat is an offering made by fire as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. 17 This is[cb] a lasting statute for your generations in all your dwellings: you must not eat any fat or any blood.’”

Matthew 24:1-28

The Destruction of the Temple Predicted

24 And as Jesus went out of the temple courts[a] he was going along, and his disciples came up to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered and[b] said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone will be left here on another stone that will not be thrown down!”

Signs of the End of the Age

And as[c] he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came up to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and[d] said to them, “Watch out that no one deceives you! For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will deceive many. And you are going to hear about wars and rumors of wars. See to it that you are not alarmed, for this must happen, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise up against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.[e] But all these things are the beginning of birth pains.

Persecution of Disciples Predicted

“Then they will hand you over to persecution and will kill you, and you will be hated by all the nations[f] because of my name. 10 And then many will be led into sin and will betray one another and will hate one another, 11 and many false prophets will appear and will deceive many, 12 and because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end—this person will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed in the whole inhabited earth for a testimony to all the nations,[g] and then the end will come.

The Abomination of Desolation

15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation[h] spoken about by the prophet Daniel standing in the holy place” (let the one who reads understand), 16 “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains! 17 The one who is on his[i] housetop must not come down to take things out of his house, 18 and the one who is in the field must not turn back to pick up his cloak. 19 And woe to those who are pregnant[j] and to those who are nursing their babies[k] in those days! 20 But pray that your flight may not happen in winter or on a Sabbath. 21 For at that time there will be great tribulation, such as has not happened from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will happen. 22 And unless those days had been shortened, no human being would be saved.[l] But for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.

23 “At that time if anyone should say to you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Here he is,’ do not believe him![m] 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear, and will produce great signs and wonders in order to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 Behold, I have told you ahead of time! 26 Therefore if they say to you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or[n] ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it![o] 27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. 28 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
