Old/New Testament
The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.
105 Oh (A)give thanks to the Lord, (B)call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, (D)sing praises to Him;
[a](E)Speak of all His [b]wonders.
3 [c]Glory in His holy name;
Let the (F)heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
4 Seek the Lord and (G)His strength;
(H)Seek His face continually.
5 Remember His [d](I)wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the (J)judgments [e]uttered by His mouth,
6 O seed of (K)Abraham, His servant,
O sons of (L)Jacob, His (M)chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
His (N)judgments are in all the earth.
8 He has (O)remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a (P)thousand generations,
9 The (Q)covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His (R)oath to Isaac.
10 Then He (S)confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “(T)To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the [f](U)portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a (V)few men in number,
Very few, and (W)strangers in it.
13 And they wandered about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
14 He (X)permitted no man to oppress them,
And He (Y)reproved kings for their sakes:
15 “(Z)Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
16 And He (AA)called for a famine upon the land;
He (AB)broke the whole staff of bread.
17 He (AC)sent a man before them,
Joseph, who was (AD)sold as a slave.
18 They afflicted his (AE)feet with fetters,
[g]He himself was laid in irons;
19 Until the time that his (AF)word came to pass,
The word of the Lord [h](AG)tested him.
20 The (AH)king sent and released him,
The ruler of peoples, and set him free.
21 He (AI)made him lord of his house
And ruler over all his possessions,
22 To [i]imprison his princes [j](AJ)at will,
That he might teach his elders wisdom.
23 (AK)Israel also came into Egypt;
Thus Jacob (AL)sojourned in the land of Ham.
24 And He (AM)caused His people to be very fruitful,
And made them stronger than their adversaries.
25 He (AN)turned their heart to hate His people,
To (AO)deal craftily with His servants.
26 He (AP)sent Moses His servant,
And (AQ)Aaron, whom He had chosen.
27 They [k](AR)performed His wondrous acts among them,
And miracles in the land of Ham.
28 He (AS)sent darkness and made it dark;
And they did not (AT)rebel against His words.
29 He (AU)turned their waters into blood
And caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with (AV)frogs
Even in the (AW)chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came a (AX)swarm of flies
And (AY)gnats in all their territory.
32 He [l]gave them (AZ)hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 He (BA)struck down their vines also and their fig trees,
And shattered the trees of their territory.
34 He spoke, and (BB)locusts came,
And young locusts, even without number,
35 And ate up all vegetation in their land,
And ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He also (BC)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
The (BD)first fruits of all their vigor.
37 Then He brought them out with (BE)silver and gold,
And among His tribes there was not one who stumbled.
38 Egypt was (BF)glad when they departed,
For the (BG)dread of them had fallen upon them.
39 He spread a (BH)cloud for a [m]covering,
And (BI)fire to illumine by night.
40 [n]They (BJ)asked, and He brought (BK)quail,
And satisfied them with the [o](BL)bread of heaven.
41 He opened the [p]rock and (BM)water flowed out;
[q]It ran in the dry places like a river.
42 For He (BN)remembered His holy word
With Abraham His servant;
43 And He brought forth His people with joy,
His chosen ones with a joyful (BO)shout.
44 He (BP)gave them also the lands of the [r]nations,
That they (BQ)might take possession of the fruit of the peoples’ labor,
45 So that they might (BR)keep His statutes
And observe His laws,
[s]Praise [t]the Lord!
Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Deliverances.
106 [u]Praise [v]the Lord!
Oh (BS)give thanks to the Lord, for He (BT)is good;
For (BU)His lovingkindness is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the (BV)mighty deeds of the Lord,
Or can show forth all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who keep [w]justice,
[x]Who (BW)practice righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, O Lord, in Your (BX)favor [y]toward Your people;
Visit me with Your salvation,
5 That I may see the (BY)prosperity of Your chosen ones,
That I may (BZ)rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may (CA)glory with Your [z]inheritance.
6 (CB)We have sinned [aa](CC)like our fathers,
We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.
7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your [ab]wonders;
They (CD)did not remember [ac]Your abundant kindnesses,
But (CE)rebelled by the sea, at the [ad]Red Sea.
8 Nevertheless He saved them (CF)for the sake of His name,
That He might (CG)make His power known.
9 Thus He (CH)rebuked the [ae]Red Sea and it (CI)dried up,
And He (CJ)led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
10 So He (CK)saved them from the [af]hand of the one who hated them,
And (CL)redeemed them from the [ag]hand of the enemy.
11 (CM)The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.
12 Then they (CN)believed His words;
They (CO)sang His praise.
13 They quickly (CP)forgot His works;
They (CQ)did not wait for His counsel,
14 But (CR)craved intensely in the wilderness,
And [ah](CS)tempted God in the desert.
15 So He (CT)gave them their request,
But (CU)sent a [ai]wasting disease among them.
16 When they became (CV)envious of Moses in the camp,
And of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord,
17 The (CW)earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And engulfed the [aj]company of Abiram.
18 And a (CX)fire blazed up in their [ak]company;
The flame consumed the wicked.
19 They (CY)made a calf in Horeb
And worshiped a molten image.
20 Thus they (CZ)exchanged their glory
For the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They (DA)forgot God their Savior,
Who had done (DB)great things in Egypt,
22 [al](DC)Wonders in the land of Ham
And awesome things by the [am]Red Sea.
23 Therefore (DD)He said that He would destroy them,
Had not (DE)Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him,
To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
24 Then they (DF)despised the (DG)pleasant land;
They (DH)did not believe in His word,
25 But (DI)grumbled in their tents;
They did not listen to the voice of the Lord.
26 Therefore He [an](DJ)swore to them
That He would cast them down in the wilderness,
27 And that He would (DK)cast their seed among the nations
And (DL)scatter them in the lands.
28 They (DM)joined themselves also to [ao]Baal-peor,
And ate (DN)sacrifices offered to the dead.
29 Thus they (DO)provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And the plague broke out among them.
30 Then Phinehas (DP)stood up and interposed,
And so the (DQ)plague was stayed.
31 And it was (DR)reckoned to him for righteousness,
To all generations forever.
32 They also (DS)provoked Him to wrath at the waters of [ap]Meribah,
So that it (DT)went hard with Moses on their account;
33 Because they (DU)were rebellious against [aq]His Spirit,
He spoke rashly with his lips.
34 They (DV)did not destroy the peoples,
As (DW)the Lord commanded them,
35 But (DX)they mingled with the nations
And learned their [ar]practices,
36 And (DY)served their idols,
(DZ)Which became a snare to them.
37 They even (EA)sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the (EB)demons,
38 And shed (EC)innocent blood,
The blood of their (ED)sons and their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was (EE)polluted with the blood.
39 Thus they became (EF)unclean in their [as]practices,
And (EG)played the harlot in their deeds.
40 Therefore the (EH)anger of the Lord was kindled against His people
And He (EI)abhorred His [at](EJ)inheritance.
41 Then (EK)He gave them into the hand of the [au]nations,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also (EL)oppressed them,
And they were subdued under their [av]power.
43 Many times He would (EM)deliver them;
They, however, were rebellious in their (EN)counsel,
And so (EO)sank down in their iniquity.
Foundations for Living
3 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to (A)spiritual men, but as to (B)men of flesh, as to (C)infants in Christ. 2 I gave you (D)milk to drink, not solid food; for you (E)were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able, 3 for you are still fleshly. For since there is (F)jealousy and strife among you, are you not fleshly, and are you not walking [a](G)like mere men? 4 For when (H)one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not mere (I)men?
5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? (J)Servants through whom you believed, even (K)as the Lord gave opportunity to each one. 6 (L)I planted, (M)Apollos watered, but (N)God was causing the growth. 7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. 8 Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will (O)receive his own [b]reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s (P)fellow workers; you are God’s [c](Q)field, God’s (R)building.
10 According to (S)the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder (T)I laid a foundation, and (U)another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no man can lay a (V)foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, [d]precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 (W)each man’s work will become evident; for (X)the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test [e]the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will (Y)receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet (Z)so as through fire.
16 (AA)Do you not know that (AB)you are a [f]temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the [g]temple of God, God will destroy him, for the [h]temple of God is holy, and [i]that is what you are.
18 (AC)Let no man deceive himself. (AD)If any man among you thinks that he is wise in (AE)this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For (AF)the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is (AG)the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20 and again, “(AH)The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” 21 So then (AI)let no one boast in men. For (AJ)all things belong to you, 22 (AK)whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or (AL)life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and (AM)you belong to Christ; and (AN)Christ belongs to God.
