84 1 David driven forth of his country, 2 Desireth most ardently to come again to the tabernacle of the Lord and the assembly of the Saints to praise God, 4 pronouncing them blessed that may so do. 6 Then he praiseth the courage of the people, that pass through the wilderness to assemble themselves in Zion. 10 Finally, with praise of this matter and confidence of God’s goodness, he endeth the Psalm.
To him that excelleth upon Gittith. A Psalm committed to the sons of Korah.
1 O [a]Lord of hosts, how amiable are thy Tabernacles?
2 My soul longeth, yea, and fainted for the [b]courts of the Lord: for my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God.
3 Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest for her, where she may lay her young: even by thine [c]altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and my God.
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thine house, they will ever praise thee. Selah.
5 Blessed is the man whose [d]strength is in thee, and in whose heart are thy ways.
6 They going through the valley of [e]Baca, make wells therein: the rain also covereth the pools.
7 They go from [f]strength to strength, till every one appear before God in Zion.
8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer, hearken, O God of Jacob. Selah.
9 Behold, O God, our shield, and look upon the face of thine [g]Anointed.
10 For [h]a day in thy courts is better than a thousand other where: I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tabernacles of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is the sun and shield unto us: the Lord will give grace and glory, and no [i]good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
85 1 Because God withdrew not his rods from his Church after their return from Babylon, first they put him in mind of their deliverance, to the intent that he should not leave the work of his grace imperfect. 5 Next they complain of their long affliction. 8 And thirdly, they rejoice in hope of felicity promised. 9 For their deliverance was a figure of Christ’s kingdom, under the which should be perfect felicity.

1 Lord, thou hast been [j]favorable unto thy land: thou hast brought again the captivity of Jacob.
2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, and [k]covered all their sins. Selah.
3 Thou hast withdrawn all thine anger, and hast turned back from the [l]fierceness of thy wrath.
4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and release thine anger toward us.
5 Wilt thou be angry with us [m]forever? and wilt thou prolong thy wrath from one generation to another?
6 Wilt thou not turn again and quicken us, that thy people may rejoice in thee?
7 Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy [n]salvation.
8 I will hearken what the Lord God will say: for he will speak [o]peace unto his people, and to his Saints, that they turn not again to folly.
9 Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.
10 Mercy and truth shall meet, righteousness and peace shall kiss one another.
11 [p]Truth shall bud out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
12 Yea, the Lord shall give good things, and our land shall give her increase.
13 [q]Righteousness shall go before him, and shall set her steps in the way.
86 1 David sore afflicted and forsaken of all, prayeth fervently for deliverance: sometimes rehearsing his miseries, 5 Sometimes the mercies received. 11 Desiring also to be instructed of the Lord, that he may fear him, and glorify his Name. 14 He complaineth also of his adversaries, and requireth to be delivered from them.
A prayer of David.
1 Incline [r]thine ear, O Lord, and hear me: for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve thou my soul, for I am [s]merciful: my God, save thou thy servant, that trusteth in thee.
3 Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I [t]cry upon thee continually.
4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
5 For thou, Lord, art good and [u]merciful, and of great kindness unto all them that call upon thee.
6 Give ear, Lord, unto my prayer, and [v]hearken to the voice of my supplication.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou hearest me.
8 Among the gods there is none like thee, O Lord, and there is none [w]that can do like thy works.
9 All nations whom thou hast made, shall come and [x]worship before thee, O Lord, and shall glorify thy Name.
10 For thou art great and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
11 [y]Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I will walk in thy truth: knit mine heart unto thee, that I may fear thy Name.
12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all mine heart: yea, I will glorify thy Name forever.
13 For great is thy mercy toward me, and thou hast delivered my soul from [z]the lowest grave.
14 O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have [aa]sought my soul, and have not set thee before them.
15 But thou, O Lord, art a pitiful God and merciful, slow to anger, and great in kindness and truth.
16 Turn unto me, and have mercy upon me: give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the [ab]son of thine handmaid.
17 Show a token of thy goodness toward me, that they which hate me, may see it, and be ashamed, because thou, O Lord, hast helped me and comforted me.
12 1 He exhorteth 2 to that worship which is acceptable to God, 9 to love unfained, 14, 20 even towards our enemies.
1 I Beseech [a]you therefore brethren, [b]by the mercies of God, that ye [c]give up your [d]bodies a [e]living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your [f]reasonable serving of God.
2 [g]And fashion not yourselves like unto this world, but be ye changed by the renewing of your [h]mind, that ye may (A)prove what that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God is.
3 [i]For I [j]say through the grace that is given unto me, to everyone that is among you, that no man [k]presume to understand above that which is meet to understand, but that he understand according to [l]sobriety, as God hath dealt to every man the (B)measure of [m]faith.
4 [n]For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not one office,
5 So we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one, one anothers members.
6 (C)[o]Seeing then that we have gifts that are divers, according to the grace that is given unto us, whether we have prophecy, let us prophesy according to the [p]portion of faith.
7 Or an office, let us wait on the office: or he that [q]teacheth, on teaching:
8 Or he that [r]exhorteth, on exhortation: he that [s]distributeth, let him do it (D)with simplicity: he that [t]ruleth, with diligence: he that [u]showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.
9 [v]Let love be without dissimulation. (E)Abhor that which is evil, and cleave unto that which is good.
10 (F)Be affectioned to love one another with brotherly love. In giving honor, go one before another.
11 Not slothful to do service, fervent in spirit [w]serving the Lord,
12 [x]Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, (G)continuing in prayer.
13 (H)[y]Distributing unto the [z]necessities of the Saints: (I)giving yourselves to hospitality.
14 (J)Bless them which persecute you: bless, I say, and curse not.
15 Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
16 Be like affectioned one towards another: (K)be not high-minded: but make yourselves equal to them of the [aa]lower sort: be not [ab]wise in yourselves.
17 (L)Recompense to no man evil for evil: procure things honest in the sight of all men.
18 (M)If it be possible, as much as in you is, have peace with all men.
19 Dearly beloved, (N)avenge not yourselves, but give place unto wrath: for it is written, (O)Vengeance is mine: I will repay, saith the Lord.
20 (P)Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him: if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap [ac]coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with goodness.
