A Prophecy About Egypt and Ethiopia

20 In the year that the [a](A)commander came to (B)Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him and he fought against Ashdod and captured it, at that time Yahweh spoke by the hand of (C)Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go and loosen the (D)sackcloth from your hips and take your (E)shoes off your feet.” And he did so, going (F)naked and barefoot. And Yahweh said, “Even as My servant Isaiah has gone naked and barefoot three years as a (G)sign and wonder against Egypt and [b](H)Ethiopia, so the (I)king of Assyria will lead away the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Ethiopia, (J)young and old, naked and barefoot with buttocks uncovered, to the [c]shame of Egypt. Then they will be (K)dismayed and ashamed because of Ethiopia their hope and Egypt their (L)boast. So the inhabitants of this coastland will say in that day, ‘Behold, such is our hope, where we fled (M)for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria; and we, (N)how shall we escape?’”

Fallen, Fallen Is Babylon

21 The [d](O)oracle concerning the [e](P)wilderness of the sea.

As (Q)whirlwinds in the [f]Negev sweep on,
It comes from the wilderness, from a fearsome land.
A (R)harsh vision has been declared to me;
The (S)treacherous one still deals treacherously, and the destroyer still destroys.
Go up, (T)Elam, lay siege, Media;
I have made an end of all [g]the groaning she has caused.
For this reason my (U)loins are full of anguish;
Pains have seized me like the pains of a (V)woman in labor.
I am so bewildered I cannot hear, so terrified I cannot see.
My heart [h]reels; [i]horror terrorizes me;
The twilight I longed for has been (W)turned for me into trembling.
They (X)set the table, they [j]spread out the cloth, they eat, they drink;
“Rise up, commanders, oil the shields,”

For thus the Lord says to me,

“Go, station the lookout, let him (Y)declare what he sees.
Indeed, he shall see (Z)riders, horsemen in pairs,
Riders of donkeys, riders of camels,
So let him pay close attention, very close attention.”

Then [k]the lookout called,

(AA)O Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower,
And I am stationed every night at my guard post.
Now behold, here comes a troop of riders, horsemen in pairs.”
And one answered and said, “(AB)Fallen, fallen is Babylon;
And all the (AC)graven images of her gods [l]are shattered on the ground.”
10 O my (AD)trampled people and my [m]afflicted of the threshing floor!
What I have heard from Yahweh of hosts,
The God of Israel, I have declared to you.

Oracles Concerning Dumah and Arabia

11 The [n]oracle concerning [o](AE)Dumah.

One keeps calling to me from (AF)Seir,
“Watchman, [p]how far gone is the night?
Watchman, [q]how far gone is the night?”
12 The watchman says,
“Morning comes but also night.
If you would inquire, inquire;
Come back again.”

13 The [r]oracle about [s](AG)Arabia.

In the thickets of [t]Arabia you [u]must spend the night,
O caravans of (AH)Dedanites.
14 Bring water to meet the thirsty,
O inhabitants of the land of (AI)Tema,
Meet with bread the one who has fled.
15 For they have (AJ)fled from the swords,
From the drawn sword, and from the bent bow
And from the heaviness of battle.

16 For thus the Lord said to me, “In a (AK)year, as [v]a hired man would count it, all the glory of (AL)Kedar will end; 17 and the (AM)remainder of the number of bowmen, the mighty men of the sons of Kedar, will be few; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, (AN)has spoken.”

An Oracle Concerning the Valley of Vision

22 The [w]oracle concerning the (AO)valley of vision.

What is the matter with you now, that you have all gone up to the (AP)housetops?
You who were full of noise,
You roaring city, you (AQ)exultant town;
Your slain were (AR)not slain with the sword,
Nor [x]did they die in battle.
(AS)All your rulers have fled together,
And have been captured [y]without the bow;
All of you who were found were captured together,
[z]Though they had fled far away.
Therefore I say, “Turn your gaze away from me,
Let me (AT)weep bitterly,
Do not insist on comforting me concerning the destruction of the daughter of my people.”
(AU)For Lord Yahweh of hosts has a (AV)day of confusion, (AW)oppression, and panic
(AX)In the valley of vision,
A breaking down of walls
And a crying [aa]to the mountain.
(AY)Now Elam took up the quiver
With the chariots, [ab]infantry, and horsemen;
And (AZ)Kir uncovered the shield.
Then your choicest valleys were full of chariots,
And the horsemen took up fixed positions at the gate.
And He revealed the [ac]defense of Judah.
In that day you looked to the weapons of the (BA)house of the forest,
And you saw that the breaches
In the wall of the city of David were many;
And you (BB)collected the waters of the lower pool.
10 Then you counted the houses of Jerusalem
And tore down houses to fortify the wall.
11 And you made a reservoir (BC)between the two walls
For the waters of the (BD)old pool.
But you did not look to Him who made it,
Nor did you see Him who formed it long ago.

12 Therefore in that day Lord Yahweh of hosts called you to (BE)weeping, to wailing,
To (BF)shaving the head, and to wearing sackcloth.
13 Instead, behold, there is (BG)joy and gladness,
Killing of cattle and slaughtering of sheep,
Eating of meat and drinking of wine:
(BH)Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we may die.”
14 But Yahweh of hosts revealed Himself in my ears,
“Surely this (BI)iniquity (BJ)shall not be atoned for you
(BK)Until you die,” says Lord Yahweh of hosts.

15 Thus says Lord Yahweh of hosts,

“Come, go to this steward,
To (BL)Shebna, who is in charge of the royal household,
16 ‘What right do you have here,
And whom do you have here,
That you have (BM)hewn a tomb for yourself here,
You who hew a tomb on the height,
You who carve a dwelling place for [ad]yourself in the cliff?
17 Behold, Yahweh is about to hurl you headlong, O man.
And He is about to grasp you firmly
18 And He will surely roll you tightly like a ball,
To be (BN)cast into a vast country;
There you will die,
And there your glorious chariots will be,
You disgrace of your master’s house.’
19 I will (BO)push you out of your office,
And [ae]I will pull you down from your station.
20 Then it will be in that day,
That I will summon My servant (BP)Eliakim the son of Hilkiah,
21 And I will clothe him with your tunic
And tie your sash securely about him.
I will give your [af]authority into his hand,
And he will become a (BQ)father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
22 Then I will set (BR)the key of the (BS)house of David on his shoulder,
When he opens no one will shut,
When he shuts no one will (BT)open.
23 I will drive him like a (BU)peg in a firm place,
And he will become a (BV)throne of glory to his father’s house.

24 So they will hang on him all the glory of his father’s house, offspring and [ag]issue, all the least of vessels, from bowls to all the jars. 25 In that day,” declares Yahweh of hosts, “the (BW)peg driven in a firm place will give way; it will even (BX)break off and fall, and the load hanging on it will be cut off, for (BY)Yahweh has spoken.”

Ephesians 6

Children and Parents

(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (B)Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long in the land.

(C)Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but (D)bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

(E)Slaves, be obedient to those who are your [a]masters according to the flesh, with (F)fear and trembling, in the [b]integrity of your heart, (G)as to Christ; (H)not [c]by way of eyeservice, as (I)men-pleasers, but as (J)slaves of Christ, (K)doing the will of God from the [d]heart, serving with good will (L)as to the Lord, and not to men, (M)knowing that (N)whatever good thing each one does, this he will receive back from the Lord, (O)whether slave or free.

And masters, do the same things to them, (P)giving up threatening, knowing that (Q)both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is (R)no partiality with Him.

The Armor of God

10 Finally, (S)be strong in the Lord and in (T)the might of His strength. 11 (U)Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the (V)schemes of the devil. 12 For our (W)struggle is not against [e](X)flesh and blood, but (Y)against the rulers, against the authorities, against the (Z)world forces of this (AA)darkness, against the (AB)spiritual forces of wickedness in (AC)the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up (AD)the full armor of God, so that you will be able to (AE)resist in (AF)the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, (AG)having girded your loins with truth, and having (AH)put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having (AI)shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 16 [f]In addition to all, having taken up the (AJ)shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the (AK)flaming arrows of (AL)the evil one, 17 also receive (AM)the helmet of salvation, and the (AN)sword of the Spirit, which is (AO)the word of God,

18 (AP)praying at all times [g]with all (AQ)prayer and petition (AR)in the Spirit, and to this end, (AS)being on the alert with all (AT)perseverance and (AU)petition for all the saints, 19 as well as (AV)on my behalf, that [h]words may be given to me (AW)in the opening of my mouth, to make known with (AX)boldness (AY)the mystery of the gospel— 20 for which I am an (AZ)ambassador (BA)in [i]chains—so that [j]in proclaiming it I may speak (BB)boldly, (BC)as I ought to speak.

21 (BD)But that you also may know about all my affairs, [k]how I am doing, (BE)Tychicus, (BF)the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make everything known to you. 22 [l](BG)I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know [m]our circumstances, and that he may (BH)encourage your hearts.

23 (BI)Peace be to the brothers, and (BJ)love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ [n]with incorruptible love.
