Old/New Testament
My Soul Thirsts for You
A Psalm of David. [a]When he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63 O God, (A)You are my God; I shall seek You [b]earnestly;
My soul (B)thirsts for You, my flesh [c]yearns for You,
In a (C)dry and weary land without water.
2 Thus I have (D)beheld You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your (E)lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will laud You.
4 Thus I will bless You (F)as long as I live;
I will (G)lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My soul is (H)satisfied as with fatness and richness,
And my mouth offers (I)praises with lips of joyful songs.
6 When I remember You (J)on my bed,
I meditate on You in the (K)night watches,
7 For (L)You have been my help,
And in the (M)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul (N)clings [d]to You;
Your (O)right hand upholds me.
9 But those who (P)seek my [e]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [f](Q)depths of the earth.
10 [g]They will be (R)delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a (S)portion for foxes.
11 But the (T)king will be glad in God;
Everyone who (U)swears by Him will boast,
For the (V)mouths of those who speak lies will be closed.
The Righteous Will Be Glad in Yahweh
For the choir director. A Psalm of David.
64 Hear my voice, O God, in (W)my [h]complaint;
(X)Guard my life from dread of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the (Y)secret counsel of evildoers,
From the tumult of the (Z)workers of iniquity,
3 Who (AA)have sharpened their tongue like a sword.
They (AB)aimed bitter speech as their arrow,
4 To (AC)shoot [i]from places of hiding at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him, and (AD)do not fear.
5 They [j]hold fast to themselves an evil purpose;
They [k]talk of (AE)laying snares secretly;
They say, “(AF)Who can see them?”
6 They searched out unrighteousness, saying,
“We have completed a diligent search”;
For the [l](AG)inward thought of a man and his heart are [m]deep.
7 But (AH)God [n]will shoot them with an arrow;
Suddenly they will be wounded.
8 So [o]they will (AI)cause their own tongue (AJ)to turn against them;
All who see them will (AK)shake their head.
9 Then all men [p]will (AL)fear,
And they [q]will (AM)declare the work of God,
And [r]will consider [s]what He has done.
10 The righteous man will be (AN)glad in Yahweh and will (AO)take refuge in Him;
And all the upright in heart will boast.
Blessed Is the One Whom You Choose
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
65 To You, there will be silence and praise in Zion, O God,
And to You the (AP)vow will be paid.
2 O You who hear prayer,
To You (AQ)all flesh comes.
3 (AR)Words of iniquity prevail against me;
As for our transgressions, You (AS)atone for them.
4 How (AT)blessed is the one whom You (AU)choose and bring near to You
That he would dwell in Your courts.
We will be (AV)satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
Your holy temple.
5 By [t](AW)fearsome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O (AX)God of our salvation,
You who are the trust of all the (AY)ends of the earth and of the farthest [u](AZ)sea;
6 Who (BA)establishes the mountains by His strength,
Being (BB)girded with might;
7 Who (BC)stills the rumbling of the seas,
The rumbling of their waves,
And the (BD)tumult of the peoples.
8 They who inhabit the (BE)ends of the earth are in fear on account of Your signs;
You make [v]the dawn and the sunset shout for joy.
9 You visit the earth and (BF)cause it to overflow;
You greatly (BG)enrich it;
The [w](BH)stream of God is full of water;
You establish their (BI)grain, for thus You establish [x]the earth.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
You smooth its ridges,
You soften it (BJ)with showers,
You bless its growth.
11 You crown the year [y]with Your (BK)goodness,
And Your [z]paths (BL)drip with richness.
12 (BM)The pastures of the wilderness drip,
And the (BN)hills gird themselves with rejoicing.
13 The meadows are (BO)clothed with flocks
And the valleys are (BP)covered with grain;
They (BQ)make a loud shout, indeed, they sing.
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
6 (A)What shall we say then? Are we to (B)continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 (C)May it never be! How shall we who (D)died to sin still live in it? 3 Or do you not know that all of us who were (E)baptized into (F)Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was (H)raised from the dead through the (I)glory of the Father, so we too might walk in (J)newness of life. 5 For (K)if we have become [a]united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [b]in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our (L)old man was (M)crucified with Him, in order that our (N)body of sin might be [c]done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for (O)he who has died has been [d]justified from sin.
8 Now (P)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been (Q)raised from the dead, [e]is never to die again; (R)death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all, but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be (S)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
12 Therefore do not let sin (T)reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on (U)presenting your members to sin as [f]instruments of unrighteousness, but (V)present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as [g]instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For (W)sin shall not (X)be master over you, for (Y)you are not under law but (Z)under grace.
Slaves of Righteousness
15 What then? (AA)Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? (AB)May it never be! 16 Do you not (AC)know that when you go on presenting yourselves to someone as (AD)slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of (AE)sin [h]leading to death, or of obedience [i]leading to righteousness? 17 But (AF)thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that (AG)pattern of teaching to which you were (AH)given over, 18 and having been (AI)freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19 (AJ)I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just (AK)as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, [j]leading to further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, [k]leading to sanctification.
20 For (AL)when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 Therefore what [l](AM)benefit were you then having [m]from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is (AN)death. 22 But now having been (AO)freed from sin and (AP)enslaved to God, you have your [n](AQ)benefit, [o]leading to sanctification, and (AR)the end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of (AS)sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is (AT)eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
