Numbers 12-14

12 ¶ And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had taken; for he had taken an Ethiopian woman.

And they said, Has the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? Has he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.

(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)

¶ And the LORD spoke suddenly unto Moses and unto Aaron and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the testimony. And they three came out.

Then the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth.

And he said, Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision and will speak unto him in dreams.

My slave Moses is not so, who is faithful in all my house.

With him I will speak mouth to mouth and by sight not by enigmas; he shall see the similitude of the LORD. Why then were ye not afraid to speak against my slave Moses?

Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against them, and he departed.

10 ¶ And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle, and, behold, Miriam was leprous as the snow; and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, in which we have done foolishly, and we have sinned.

12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.

13 Then Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.

14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? Let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.

15 So Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days, and the people did not journey until Miriam was brought in again.

16 And afterward he moved the people from Hazeroth, and they pitched camp in the wilderness of Paran.

13 ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Send thou men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the sons of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers ye shall send a man, each one a prince among them.

And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran; all those men were princes of the sons of Israel.

And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur.

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Nun.

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu.

10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi.

11 Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi.

12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli.

13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael.

14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi.

15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel, the son of Machi.

16 These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.

17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said unto them, Go up this way towards the Negev and go up into the mountain

18 and see the land, what it is, and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, few or many,

19 and how the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad, and what cities there are that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds,

20 And what the land is, whether it is fertile or sterile, whether there are trees therein, or not. And be ye of good courage and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

21 ¶ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

22 And they ascended by the Negev and came unto Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and from there they cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates and of the figs.

24 The place was called the brook Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

26 ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

27 And they told him and said, We came unto the land where thou didst send us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 Nevertheless the people are strong that dwell in that land, and the cities are very great and strong; and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there.

29 Amalek dwells in the land of the Negev, and the Hittite and the Jebusite and the Amorite dwell in the mountains, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.

30 Then Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against that people, for they are stronger than we.

32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone through to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

33 And there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, of the race of the giants; and we were in our own sight as locusts, and so we were in their sight.

14 ¶ Then all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night.

And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, and the whole congregation said unto them, Oh, that we might die in the land of Egypt or that we might die in this wilderness!

And why has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return into Egypt?

And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

¶ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the sons of Israel.

And Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were of those that had spied out the land, rent their clothes;

and they spoke unto all the company of the sons of Israel, saying, The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceeding good land.

If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey.

Therefore, do not be rebels against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.

10 Then all the multitude spoke of stoning them with stones. But the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the testimony before all the sons of Israel.

11 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? How long will it be before they believe me, with all the signs which I have done among them?

12 I will smite them with the pestilence and disinherit them and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, for thou didst bring this people out of the midst of them with thy might;

14 and the inhabitants of this land will say, for they have already heard that thou, oh LORD, wast among this people, that thou, O LORD, art seen face to face, and that thy cloud was over them, and that thou didst go before them by day time in a pillar of a cloud and in a pillar of fire by night;

15 and that thou hast caused all this people to die as one man; and the Gentiles who have heard of thy fame will speak, saying,

16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them; therefore, he has slain them in the wilderness.

17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,

18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, letting go of iniquity and transgression and absolving, but by no means absolving the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generations.

19 Pardon now the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy and as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even until now.

20 ¶ Then the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word.

21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

22 Because all those men who saw my glory and my signs which I have done in Egypt and in the wilderness and have tempted me now these ten times and have not hearkened to my voice,

23 surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of those that provoked me see it.

24 But my slave Caleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he proved to follow after me, I will bring him into the land that he entered into, and his seed shall receive it by inheritance,

25 and even the Amalekite and the Canaanite who dwell in the valley. Turn around tomorrow and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

26 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27 How long shall I hear this evil congregation, which murmurs against me, the complaints of the sons of Israel, which they murmur against me?

28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, according as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you.

29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me;

30 doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 But your little ones, whom ye said should be a prey, I will bring them in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

32 But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness.

33 And your children shall be shepherded in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications until your carcasses are wasted in the wilderness.

34 After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, each day for a year, ye shall bear your iniquities forty years, and ye shall know my reason for annulling my promise.

35 I, the LORD, have spoken, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation that are gathered together against me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

36 ¶ And the men, whom Moses had sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up a slander upon the land,

37 even those men that brought an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

38 But Joshua, the son of Nun, and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of the men that went to spy out the land.

39 And Moses told these things unto all the sons of Israel, and the people mourned greatly.

40 And they rose up early in the morning and climbed up into the top of the mountain, saying, Here we are prepared to go up unto the place of which the LORD has spoken; for we have sinned.

41 And Moses said, Why do ye break the commandment of the LORD? This also shall not prosper.

42 Do not go up, for the LORD is not among you; do not be smitten before your enemies.

43 For the Amalekite and the Canaanite are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; because ye are turned away from following the LORD, therefore, the LORD will not be with you.

44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top; nevertheless, the ark of the covenant of the LORD and Moses, did not depart out of the camp.

45 Then the Amalekite came down and the Canaanite who dwelt in that hill and smote them and defeated them, pursuing them unto Hormah.

Mark 5:21-43

21 ¶ And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered unto him, and he was near the sea.

22 And one of the princes of the synagogue came, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet

23 and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay thy hands on her that she may be saved, and she shall live.

24 And Jesus went with him; and a great multitude followed him and thronged him.

25 And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years

26 and had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse;

27 when she had heard of Jesus, came from behind among the multitude and touched his garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be saved.

29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned to the crowd and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith has made thee saved; go in peace and remain whole of thy plague.

35 ¶ While he yet spoke, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain who said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the prince of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 And he suffered no one to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 And they came to the house of the prince of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those that wept and wailed greatly.

39 And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

40 And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel and those that were with him and entered in where the damsel was lying.

41 And taking the damsel by the hand, he said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 And he charged them straitly that no one should know it and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
