Lexham English Bible (LEB)
Version
Zechariah 13-14

13 “‘On that day a well will be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and from impurity.[a] And then,[b] on that day,’ declares[c] Yahweh of hosts, ‘I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and also the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness I will banish from the land. And then,[d] if anyone prophesies again, his father and his mother who bore him will say to him, “You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of Yahweh!” And his father and his mother who bore him will pierce him through when he prophesies. And then[e] on that day, each of the prophets will be ashamed because of his vision when he was prophesying, and they will not put on a cloak of hair in order to deceive, but he will say, “I am not a prophet; I am a tiller of the soil, for a man has acquired me since my youth.”[f] And someone[g] shall say to him, “What are these wounds between your arms?”[h] and he will say, “Those I have received[i] in the house of the ones who love me.”’”

The Sword Shall Strike the Shepherd

“O sword, awake against my shepherd,
against the man who is my associate,”
        declares[j] Yahweh of hosts.
“Strike the shepherd,
so that the sheep[k] may be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the small ones.
And then[l] in all the land,” declares[m] Yahweh,
two thirds[n] will be cut off and perish,
and one third will be left alive[o] in it.
And I will bring the remaining third into the fire,
and I will refine them like one refines silver,
and I will test them like one tests gold.
They[p] will call my name,
    and I will answer them.[q]
I will say, ‘They[r] are my people,’
and they[s] will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’”

Zechariah’s Apocalyptic Vision

14 Look! A day is coming for Yahweh, when your plunder will be divided in your midst. I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, and they will loot the houses, and the women will be raped; half of the city will go into exile, but the remainder of the people will not be cut off from the city. Then Yahweh will go forth and fight against those nations, like when he fights[t] on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,[u] which faces Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives[v] will be split in half,[w] from east to west, by a very great valley; and half of the mountain will withdraw toward the north, and the other half toward the south. And you will flee by the valley of my mountains, because the valley of the mountains will reach to Azal, and you will flee like you fled from the earthquake in the days of King Uzziah of Judah. And Yahweh my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.[x]

And then[y] on that day there will not be light,[z] the precious things will congeal.[aa] There shall be continuous day—it is known to Yahweh—not day and not night; and at evening time there will be light.

And then[ab] on that day, living waters will flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea,[ac] and the other half to the western sea;[ad] it will happen both in the summer and in the winter. And Yahweh will be king over all the earth; on that day Yahweh will be one and his name one. 10 All the land will be transformed into a desert plateau[ae] from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. But it[af] will rise up high and it will stay[ag] in its place from the Gate of Benjamin to the place of the former gate, up to the Corner Gate and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. 11 And they[ah] will dwell in it, and there will be no more ban imposed,[ai] and Jerusalem will dwell in security.

12 And this will be the plague with which Yahweh will strike all the peoples that fight against Jerusalem: their[aj] flesh will rot while they[ak] are standing on their[al] feet; their[am] eyes will rot in their sockets, and their[an] tongues[ao] will rot in their mouths.[ap] 13 And then[aq] on that day a great panic from Yahweh will fall[ar] on them, and they will seize one another’s hand,[as] and the hand of the one will be raised against the hand of another.[at] 14 And Judah also will fight at[au] Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—gold and silver, and garments in great abundance.[av] 15 Like this plague[aw] will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, and the donkey, and every kind of animal in those camps.

16 And then[ax] every survivor from all those nations coming against Jerusalem will go up year after year[ay] to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, and celebrate the Feast of Booths.[az] 17 And then[ba] whoever of the clans of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, Yahweh of hosts, it will not rain on them. 18 And if the clan of Egypt will not go up and come in, on them will be that plague Yahweh inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths.

20 On that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to Yahweh.” And the cooking pots in the house[bb] of Yahweh will be holy like the sacrificial basins[bc] before the altar. 21 And every cooking pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to Yahweh of hosts, and all those who sacrifice will come and will take from them, and will cook in them, and there will be no longer a trader[bd] in the house[be] of Yahweh of hosts on that day.

Revelation 21

The New Heaven, New Earth, and New Jerusalem

21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea did not exist any longer. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity,
and he will take up residence with them,
and they will be his people
and God himself will be with them.[a]
And he will wipe away every tear from their eyes,
and death will not exist any longer,
and[b] mourning or wailing or pain will not exist any longer.
The former things[c] have passed away.”

And the one seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new!” And he said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am[d] the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who is thirsty I will give water from the spring of the water of life freely.[e] The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God[f] and he will be my son[g]. But as for the cowards and unbelievers and detestable persons and murderers and sexually immoral people and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.

A Description of the New Jerusalem

And one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and lofty mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11 that has the glory of God. Its radiance is like a precious stone, something like a jasper stone, shining like crystal. 12 It has[h] a great and high wall that has twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written on the gates which are[i] of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel— 13 on the east, three gates, and on the north, three gates, and on the south, three gates, and on the west, three gates. 14 And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 And the one who spoke with me was holding a golden measuring rod in order that he could measure the city and its gates and its wall. 16 And the city is laid out as a square, and its length is the same as its width. And he measured the city with the measuring rod at twelve thousand stadia;[j] the length and the width and the height of it are equal. 17 And he measured its wall, one hundred forty-four cubits[k] according to human measure[l], which is the angel’s. 18 And the material of its wall is jasper, and the city is pure gold, similar in appearance to pure glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city are adorned with every kind of precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates are twelve pearls, each one of the gates was from a single pearl. And the street of the city is pure gold, like transparent glass.

22 And I did not see a temple in it, for the Lord God All-Powerful is its temple, and the Lamb. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon, that they shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 And the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 And its gates will never be shut by day (for there will be no night there), 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 And every unclean thing and one who practices[m] detestable things and falsehood will never enter into it, except those who are written in the book of life of the Lamb.
