The Last Plague

11 Now the Lord said to Moses, “One more plague I will bring on Pharaoh and on Egypt; (A)after that he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out from here completely. Speak now in the [a]hearing of the people that (B)each man ask from his neighbor and each woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and articles of gold.” (C)The Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. (D)Furthermore, the man Moses himself was [b]greatly esteemed in the land of Egypt, both in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.

Moses said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘About (E)midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt, and (F)all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of the Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is behind the millstones; all the firstborn of the cattle as well. Moreover, there shall be (G)a great cry in all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been before and such as shall never be again. (H)But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even [c]bark, whether against man or beast, that you may [d]understand how the Lord makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’ (I)All these your servants will come down to me and bow themselves [e]before me, saying, ‘Go out, you and all the people who [f]follow you,’ and after that I will go out.” (J)And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “(K)Pharaoh will not listen to you, so (L)that My wonders will be multiplied in the land of Egypt.” 10 (M)Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh; yet (N)the Lord [g]hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the sons of Israel go out of his land.

The Passover Lamb

12 Now the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of [h]Egypt, (O)This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a [i]lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a [j]lamb for [k]each household. Now if the household is too small for a [l]lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the [m]number of persons in them; according to [n]what each man should eat, you are to [o]divide the lamb. Your [p]lamb shall be (P)an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. [q]You shall keep it until the (Q)fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it [r](R)at twilight. (S)Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel [s]of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh (T)that same night, (U)roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with (V)unleavened bread [t](W)and bitter herbs. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather (X)roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with (Y)its entrails. 10 (Z)And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire. 11 Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste—it is (AA)the Lord’s Passover. 12 For (AB)I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and (AC)against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—(AD)I am the Lord. 13 (AE)The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you [u]live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you [v]to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

Feast of Unleavened Bread

14 ‘Now (AF)this day will be (AG)a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as [w](AH)a permanent ordinance. 15 (AI)Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall [x]remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, (AJ)that [y]person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 (AK)On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten [z]by every person, that alone may be [aa]prepared by you. 17 You shall also observe (AL)the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this (AM)very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as (AN)a [ab]permanent ordinance. 18 (AO)In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening. 19 (AP)Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that [ac](AQ)person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land. 20 You shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’”

21 Then (AR)Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “[ad]Go and (AS)take for yourselves [ae]lambs according to your families, and slay (AT)the Passover lamb.

Luke 14

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

14 It happened that when He went into the house of one of the [a]leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, (A)they were watching Him closely. And [b]there in front of Him was a man suffering from dropsy. And Jesus answered and spoke to the [c](B)lawyers and Pharisees, saying, (C)Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” But they kept silent. And He took hold of him and healed him, and sent him away. And He said to them, [d](D)Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?” (E)And they could make no reply to this.

Parable of the Guests

And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how (F)they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, (G)do not [e]take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then (H)in disgrace you [f]proceed to occupy the last place. 10 But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, (I)move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who [g]are at the table with you. 11 (J)For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment. 13 But when you give a [h]reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, since they [i]do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at (K)the resurrection of the righteous.”

15 When one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, “(L)Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”

Parable of the Dinner

16 But He said to him, (M)A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; 17 and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’ 18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a [j]piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; [k]please consider me excused.’ 19 Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; [l]please consider me excused.’ 20 Another one said, ‘(N)I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’ 21 And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ 22 And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’”

Discipleship Tested

25 Now [m]large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them, 26 (O)If anyone comes to Me, and does not [n]hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27 Whoever does not (P)carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and (Q)consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends [o]a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 So then, none of you can be My disciple who (R)does not give up all his own possessions.

34 “Therefore, salt is good; but (S)if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned? 35 It is useless either for the soil or for the manure pile; it is thrown out. (T)He who has ears to hear, [p]let him hear.”

Job 29

Job’s Past Was Glorious

29 And Job again took up his (A)discourse and said,

“Oh that I were as in months gone by,
As in the days when God (B)watched over me;
When (C)His lamp shone over my head,
And (D)by His light I walked through darkness;
As I was in [a]the prime of my days,
When the [b](E)friendship of God was over my tent;
When [c]the Almighty was yet with me,
And my children were around me;
When my steps were bathed in (F)butter,
And the (G)rock poured out for me streams of oil!
“When I went out to (H)the gate of the city,
When I [d]took my seat in the square,
The young men saw me and hid themselves,
And the old men arose and stood.
“The princes (I)stopped talking
And (J)put their hands on their mouths;
10 The voice of the nobles was [e](K)hushed,
And their (L)tongue stuck to their palate.
11 “For when (M)the ear heard, it called me blessed,
And when the eye saw, it gave witness of me,
12 Because I delivered (N)the poor who cried for help,
And the (O)orphan who had no helper.
13 “The blessing of the one (P)ready to perish came upon me,
And I made the (Q)widow’s heart sing for joy.
14 “I (R)put on righteousness, and it clothed me;
My justice was like a robe and a turban.
15 “I was (S)eyes to the blind
And feet to the lame.
16 “I was a father to (T)the needy,
And I investigated the case which I did not know.
17 “I (U)broke the jaws of the wicked
And snatched the prey from his teeth.
18 “Then I [f]thought, ‘I shall die [g]in my nest,
And I shall multiply my days as the sand.
19 ‘My (V)root is spread out to the waters,
And (W)dew lies all night on my branch.
20 ‘My glory is ever new with me,
And my (X)bow is renewed in my hand.’

21 “To me (Y)they listened and waited,
And kept silent for my counsel.
22 “After my words they did not (Z)speak again,
And (AA)my speech dropped on them.
23 “They waited for me as for the rain,
And opened their mouth as for the spring rain.
24 “I smiled on them when they did not believe,
And the light of my face they did not cast down.
25 “I chose a way for them and sat as (AB)chief,
And dwelt as a king among the troops,
As one who (AC)comforted the mourners.

1 Corinthians 15

The Fact of Christ’s Resurrection

15 Now (A)I make known to you, brethren, the (B)gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, (C)in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, (D)if you hold fast [a]the word which I preached to you, (E)unless you believed in vain.

For (F)I delivered to you [b]as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died (G)for our sins (H)according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was (I)raised on the third day (J)according to the Scriptures, and that (K)He appeared to (L)Cephas, then (M)to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some (N)have fallen asleep; then He appeared to [c](O)James, then to (P)all the apostles; and last of all, as [d]to one untimely born, (Q)He appeared to me also. For I am (R)the least of the apostles, [e]and not fit to be called an apostle, because I (S)persecuted the church of God. 10 But by (T)the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I (U)labored even more than all of them, yet (V)not I, but the grace of God with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

12 Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there (W)is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 14 and (X)if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. 15 Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified [f]against God that He (Y)raised [g]Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; 17 and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; (Z)you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who (AA)have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are (AB)of all men most to be pitied.

The Order of Resurrection

20 But now Christ (AC)has been raised from the dead, the (AD)first fruits of those who (AE)are asleep. 21 For since (AF)by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For (AG)as in Adam all die, so also in [h]Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ (AH)the first fruits, after that (AI)those who are Christ’s at (AJ)His coming, 24 then comes the end, when He hands over (AK)the kingdom to the (AL)God and Father, when He has abolished (AM)all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign (AN)until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be (AO)abolished is death. 27 For (AP)He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, “(AQ)All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 28 When (AR)all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that (AS)God may be all in all.

29 Otherwise, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them? 30 Why are we also (AT)in danger every hour? 31 I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, (AU)I die daily. 32 If [i]from human motives I (AV)fought with wild beasts at (AW)Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, (AX)let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die. 33 (AY)Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” 34 (AZ)Become sober-minded [j]as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have (BA)no knowledge of God. (BB)I speak this to your shame.

35 But (BC)someone will say, “How are (BD)the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?” 36 (BE)You fool! That which you (BF)sow does not come to life unless it dies; 37 and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of [k]something else. 38 But God gives it a body just as He wished, and (BG)to each of the seeds a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is one, and the glory of the earthly is another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.

42 (BH)So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown [l](BI)a perishable body, it is raised [m](BJ)an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in (BK)glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a (BL)natural body, it is raised a (BM)spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So also it is written, “The first (BN)man, Adam, became a living soul.” The (BO)last Adam became a (BP)life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; then the spiritual. 47 The first man is (BQ)from the earth, [n](BR)earthy; the second man is from heaven. 48 As is the earthy, so also are those who are earthy; and as is the heavenly, (BS)so also are those who are heavenly. 49 Just as we have (BT)borne the image of the earthy, [o]we (BU)will also bear the image of the heavenly.

The Mystery of Resurrection

50 Now I say this, brethren, that (BV)flesh and blood cannot (BW)inherit the kingdom of God; nor does [p]the perishable inherit [q](BX)the imperishable. 51 Behold, I tell you a (BY)mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be (BZ)changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for (CA)the trumpet will sound, and (CB)the dead will be raised [r]imperishable, and (CC)we will be changed. 53 For this [s]perishable must put on [t](CD)the imperishable, and this (CE)mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this [u]perishable will have put on [v]the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “(CF)Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 (CG)O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of (CH)death is sin, and (CI)the power of sin is the law; 57 but (CJ)thanks be to God, who gives us the (CK)victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 (CL)Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in (CM)the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
