M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Series of Kings: Azariah (Uzziah) over Judah
15 (A)In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah became king. 2 He was (B)sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was [a]Jecoliah of Jerusalem. 3 He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. 4 Only (C)the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. 5 (D)The Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death. And he (E)lived in a separate house, [b]while Jotham the king’s son was over the household, judging the people of the land. 6 Now the rest of the acts of Azariah and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 7 And Azariah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, and Jotham his son became king in his place.
Zechariah over Israel
8 (F)In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam became king over Israel in Samaria for six months. 9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin. 10 Then Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him and (G)struck him before the people and [c]killed him, and reigned in his place. 11 Now the rest of the acts of Zechariah, behold they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 12 This is (H)the word of the Lord which He spoke to Jehu, saying, “Your sons to the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.” And so it was.
13 Shallum son of Jabesh became king in the (I)thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned one month in (J)Samaria. 14 Then Menahem son of Gadi went up from (K)Tirzah and came to Samaria, and struck Shallum son of Jabesh in Samaria, and killed him and became king in his place. 15 Now the rest of the acts of Shallum and his conspiracy which he made, behold they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel. 16 Then Menahem struck Tiphsah and all who were in it and its borders from Tirzah, because they did not open to him; therefore he struck it and ripped up (L)all its women who were with child.
Menahem over Israel
17 In the (M)thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem son of Gadi became king over Israel and reigned ten years in Samaria. 18 He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin.
19 (N)Pul, king of Assyria, came against the land, and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver so that his hand might be with him to (O)strengthen the kingdom [d]under his rule. 20 Then Menahem exacted the money from Israel, even from all the mighty men of wealth, from each man fifty shekels of silver to pay the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria returned and did not remain there in the land. 21 Now the rest of the acts of Menahem and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 22 And Menahem slept with his fathers, and Pekahiah his son became king in his place.
Pekahiah over Israel
23 In (P)the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah son of Menahem became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years. 24 He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin. 25 Then Pekah son of Remaliah, his officer, conspired against him and struck him in Samaria, in (Q)the castle of the king’s house with Argob and Arieh; and with him were fifty men of the Gileadites, and he killed him and became king in his place. 26 Now the rest of the acts of Pekahiah and all that he did, behold they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
Pekah over Israel
27 In (R)the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, (S)Pekah son of Remaliah became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years. 28 He did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he made Israel sin.
29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel, [e](T)Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria came and [f]captured Ijon and Abel-beth-maacah and Janoah and Kedesh and Hazor and Gilead and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and (U)he carried them captive to Assyria. 30 And Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and struck him and put him to death and became king in his place, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah. 31 Now the rest of the acts of Pekah and all that he did, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
Jotham over Judah
32 In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham the son of [g]Uzziah king of Judah became king. 33 (V)He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jerusha the daughter of Zadok. 34 (W)He did what was right in the sight of the Lord; he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done. 35 Only (X)the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. (Y)He built the upper gate of the house of the Lord. 36 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 37 In those days (Z)the Lord began to send Rezin king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah. 38 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and he was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Ahaz his son became king in his place.
Salutation
1 Paul, (A)a bond-servant of God and an (B)apostle of Jesus Christ, [a]for the faith of those (C)chosen of God and (D)the knowledge of the truth which is (E)according to godliness, 2 in (F)the hope of eternal life, which God, (G)who cannot lie, (H)promised [b](I)long ages ago, 3 but (J)at the proper time manifested, even His word, in (K)the proclamation (L)with which I was entrusted (M)according to the commandment of (N)God our Savior,
4 To (O)Titus, (P)my true child [c]in a (Q)common faith: (R)Grace and peace from God the Father and (S)Christ Jesus our Savior.
Qualifications of Elders
5 For this reason I left you in (T)Crete, that you would set in order what remains and (U)appoint (V)elders in every city as I directed you, 6 namely, (W)if any man is above reproach, the (X)husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of (Y)dissipation or (Z)rebellion. 7 For the [d](AA)overseer must be above reproach as (AB)God’s steward, not (AC)self-willed, not quick-tempered, not (AD)addicted to wine, not pugnacious, (AE)not fond of sordid gain, 8 but (AF)hospitable, (AG)loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 (AH)holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in (AI)sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
10 (AJ)For there are many (AK)rebellious men, (AL)empty talkers and deceivers, especially (AM)those of the circumcision, 11 who must be silenced because they are upsetting (AN)whole families, teaching (AO)things they should not teach (AP)for the sake of sordid gain. 12 One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “(AQ)Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. For this reason (AR)reprove them (AS)severely so that they may be (AT)sound in the faith, 14 not paying attention to Jewish (AU)myths and (AV)commandments of men who (AW)turn away from the truth. 15 (AX)To the pure, all things are pure; but (AY)to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their (AZ)mind and their conscience are defiled. 16 (BA)They profess to know God, but by their deeds they (BB)deny Him, being (BC)detestable and (BD)disobedient and (BE)worthless (BF)for any good deed.
Israel Reaps the Whirlwind
8 (A)Put the trumpet to your [a]lips!
(B)Like an eagle the enemy comes (C)against the house of the Lord,
Because they have (D)transgressed My covenant
And rebelled against My (E)law.
2 (F)They cry out to Me,
“My God, (G)we of Israel know You!”
3 Israel has rejected the good;
The enemy will pursue him.
4 (H)They have set up kings, but not by Me;
They have appointed princes, but I did not know it.
With their (I)silver and gold they have made idols for themselves,
That [b]they might be cut off.
5 [c]He has rejected your (J)calf, O Samaria, saying,
“My anger burns against them!”
How long will they be incapable of (K)innocence?
6 For from Israel is even this!
A (L)craftsman made it, so it is not God;
Surely the calf of Samaria will be broken to [d]pieces.
7 For (M)they sow the wind
And they reap the (N)whirlwind.
The standing grain has no [e]heads;
It yields (O)no [f]grain.
Should it yield, strangers would swallow it up.
8 Israel is (P)swallowed up;
They are now among the nations
Like a (Q)vessel in which no one delights.
9 For they have gone up to (R)Assyria,
Like (S)a wild donkey all alone;
Ephraim has (T)hired [g]lovers.
10 Even though they hire allies among the nations,
Now I will (U)gather them up;
And they will begin (V)to [h]diminish
Because of the burden of the (W)king of princes.
11 Since Ephraim has (X)multiplied altars for sin,
They have become altars of sinning for him.
12 Though (Y)I wrote for him ten thousand precepts of My (Z)law,
They are regarded as a strange thing.
13 As for My (AA)sacrificial gifts,
They (AB)sacrifice the flesh and eat it,
But the Lord has taken no delight in them.
Now He will (AC)remember their iniquity,
And (AD)punish them for their sins;
They will return to (AE)Egypt.
14 For Israel has (AF)forgotten his Maker and (AG)built palaces;
And Judah has multiplied fortified cities,
But I will send a (AH)fire on its cities that it may consume its palatial dwellings.
Prayer for the Lord’s Help.
A Song of Ascents.
123 To You I (A)lift up my eyes,
O You who (B)are enthroned in the heavens!
2 Behold, as the eyes of (C)servants look to the hand of their master,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,
So our (D)eyes look to the Lord our God,
Until He is gracious to us.
3 (E)Be gracious to us, O Lord, be gracious to us,
For we are greatly filled (F)with contempt.
4 Our soul is greatly filled
With the (G)scoffing of (H)those who are at ease,
And with the (I)contempt of the proud.
Praise for Rescue from Enemies.
A Song of Ascents, of David.
124 “(J)Had it not been the Lord who was on our side,”
(K)Let Israel now say,
2 “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side
When men rose up against us,
3 Then they would have (L)swallowed us alive,
When their (M)anger was kindled against us;
4 Then the (N)waters would have engulfed us,
The stream would have [a]swept over our soul;
5 Then the (O)raging waters would have [b]swept over our soul.”
6 Blessed be the Lord,
Who has not given us [c]to be (P)torn by their teeth.
7 Our soul has (Q)escaped (R)as a bird out of the (S)snare of the trapper;
The snare is broken and we have escaped.
8 Our (T)help is in the name of the Lord,
Who (U)made heaven and earth.
The Lord Surrounds His People.
A Song of Ascents.
125 Those who trust in the Lord
Are as Mount Zion, which (V)cannot be moved but (W)abides forever.
2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So (X)the Lord surrounds His people
(Y)From this time forth and forever.
3 For the (Z)scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the [d]land of the righteous,
So that the righteous (AA)will not put forth their hands to do wrong.
