21 And the Lord said unto Moses, “Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them: ‘There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people,
2 except for his kin who is near unto him, that is: for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother,
3 and for his sister, a virgin who is nigh unto him, who hath had no husband; for her may he be defiled.
4 But he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.
5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
6 They shall be holy unto their God and not profane the name of their God, for the offerings of the Lord made by fire and the bread of their God they do offer; therefore they shall be holy.
7 They shall not take a wife who is a whore or profane, neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy unto his God.
8 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore, for he offereth the bread of thy God. He shall be holy unto thee; for I the Lord, who sanctify you, am holy.
9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the whore, she profaneth her father. She shall be burned with fire.
10 “‘And he that is the high priest among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head nor rend his clothes;
11 neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father or for his mother;
12 neither shall he go out of the sanctuary nor profane the sanctuary of his God, for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the Lord.
13 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
14 A widow or a divorced woman or profane or a harlot, these shall he not take; but he shall take a virgin of his own people for a wife.
15 Neither shall he profane his seed among his people, for I the Lord do sanctify him.’”
16 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
17 “Speak unto Aaron, saying, ‘Whosoever he be of thy seed in their generations who hath any blemish, let him not approach to offer the bread of his God.
18 For whatsoever man he be that hath a blemish, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or any thing superfluous,
19 or a man who is brokenfooted, or brokenhanded,
20 or crookbacked, or a dwarf, or who hath a blemish in his eye, or hath scurvy, or scabbed, or hath his stones broken—
21 no man that hath a blemish of the seed of Aaron the priest shall come nigh to offer the offerings of the Lord made by fire. He hath a blemish: he shall not come nigh to offer the bread of his God.
22 He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy and of the holy.
23 Only he shall not go in unto the veil nor come nigh unto the altar, because he hath a blemish, that he profane not My sanctuaries; for I the Lord do sanctify them.’”
24 And Moses told it unto Aaron and to his sons, and unto all the children of Israel.
26 Judge me, O Lord, for I have walked in mine integrity. I have also trusted in the Lord; therefore I shall not slide.
2 Examine me, O Lord, and test me; try my reins and my heart.
3 For Thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes, and I have walked in Thy truth.
4 I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I consort with dissemblers.
5 I have hated the congregation of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked.
6 I will wash mine hands in innocence; so will I compass Thine altar, O Lord,
7 that I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all Thy wondrous works.
8 Lord, I have loved the habitation of Thy house, and the place where Thine honor dwelleth.
9 Gather not my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men,
10 in whose hands is mischief, and their right hand is full of bribes.
11 But as for me, I will walk in mine integrity; redeem me and be merciful unto me.
12 My foot standeth on a level place; in the congregations will I bless the Lord.
27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, even in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord; that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret places of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me upon a rock.
6 And then shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; therefore I will offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me and answer me.
8 When Thou saidst, “Seek ye My face,” my heart said unto Thee, “Thy face, Lord, will I seek.”
9 Hide not Thy face far from me; put not Thy servant away in anger. Thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
11 Teach me Thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I would have fainted, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord!
4 So I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: And behold, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter.
2 Therefore I praised the dead who are already dead more than the living who are yet alive;
3 yea, better than both of them is he who hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
4 Again, I considered all travail and every right work for which a man is envied by his neighbor. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
5 The fool foldeth his hands together and eateth his own flesh.
6 Better is a handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of the spirit.
7 Again I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun:
8 There is one who is alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother, yet there is no end to all his labor. Neither is his eye satisfied with riches; nor saith he, “For whom do I labor and bereave my soul of good?” This is also vanity; yea, it is a sore travail.
9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him that is alone when he falleth, for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie down together, then they have heat, but how can one be warm alone?
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threestrand cord is not quickly broken.
13 Better is a poor and wise child, than an old and foolish king who will no more be admonished.
14 For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.
15 I considered all the living who walk under the sun, with the second child who shall stand up in his stead.
16 There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them; they also who came after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit.
6 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and His doctrine be not blasphemed.
2 And those who have believing masters must not despise them because they are brethren, but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
3 If any man teach otherwise and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,
4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes over words, from which cometh envy, strife, railings, evil suspicions,
5 perverse disputings by men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness. From such withdraw thyself.
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content.
9 But those who would be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil; and while some have coveted after it, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
13 In the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession, I give thee this charge:
14 that thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 which He in His times shall show — He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
16 who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto, whom no man hath seen nor can see, to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.
17 Charge those who are rich in this world that they be not haughty, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
18 that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate,
19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science, falsely so called,
21 which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.
