M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
9 1, 9 The Queen of Sheba cometh to see Solomon, and bringeth gifts. 13 His yearly revenues. 30 The time of his reign. 31 His death.
1 And (A)when the Queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to [a]prove Solomon with hard questions at Jerusalem, with a very great train, and camels that bare sweet odors and much gold, and precious stones: and when she came to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.
2 And Solomon declared her all her questions, and there was [b]nothing hid from Solomon, which he declared not unto her.
3 Then the Queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he had built,
4 And the meat of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the order of his waiters, and their apparel, and his butlers, and their apparel, and his [c]burnt offerings which he offered in the house of the Lord, and she was greatly [d]astonied.
5 And she said to the King, It was a true word which I heard in mine own land of thy [e]sayings, and of thy wisdom:
6 Howbeit, I believed not their report, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and behold, the one half of thy great wisdom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.
7 Happy are thy men, and happy are these thy servants, which stand before thee always, and hear thy wisdom.
8 Blessed be the Lord thy God, which loved thee, to set thee on his [f]throne as king, in the stead of the Lord thy God: because thy God loveth Israel, to establish it forever, therefore hath he made thee king over them, to execute judgments and justice.
9 Then she gave the King sixscore talents of gold, and of sweet odors exceedingly much, and precious stones: neither was there such sweet odors since, as the Queen of Sheba gave unto King Solomon.
10 And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon which brought gold from Ophir, brought [g]Algummim wood and precious stones.
11 And the King made of the Algummim wood [h]stairs in the house of the Lord, and in the king’s house, and harps and viols for singers: and there was no such seen before in the land of Judah.
12 And King Solomon gave to the Queen of Sheba every pleasant thing that she asked, [i]besides for that which she had brought unto the king: so she returned and went to her own country, both she, and her servants.
13 ¶ Also the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year, was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold,
14 Besides that which chapmen and merchants brought: and all the Kings of Arabia, and the princes of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon.
15 And King Solomon made two hundred targets of beaten gold, and [j]six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to one target.
16 And three hundred shields of beaten gold: three hundred [k]shekels of gold went to one shield, and the king put them in the house of the wood of Lebanon.
17 And the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold.
18 And the throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold [l]fastened to the throne, and stays on either side on the place of the seats, and two lions standing by the [m]stays.
19 And twelve lions stood there on the six steps on either side: there was not the like made in any kingdom.
20 And all King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the wood of Lebanon were of pure gold: for silver was nothing esteemed in the days of Solomon.
21 For the king’s ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram, every three years once came the ships of [n]Tarshish, and brought gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks.
22 So king Solomon excelled all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
23 And all the Kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom that God had put in his heart.
24 And they brought every man his present, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and raiment, armor, and sweet odors, horses, and mules, from year to year.
25 And Solomon had [o]four thousand stalls of horses, and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.
26 And he reigned over all the kings from the [p]River even unto the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt.
27 And the king gave silver in Jerusalem, [q]as stones, and gave cedar trees as the wild fig trees, that are abundant in the plain.
28 And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all lands.
29 Concerning the rest of the acts of Solomon first and last, are they not written in the book of Nathan the Prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of [r]Iddo the Seer [s]against Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
30 And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.
31 And Solomon (B)slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
The General Epistle of Jude
1 3 He warneth the godly to take heed of such men, 4 that make the grace of God a cloak for their wantonness: 5 and that they shall not escape unpunished, for the contempt of that grace, 6, 7 he proveth by three examples: 14 and allegeth the prophecy of Enoch: 20 Finally he showeth the godly a means to overthrow all the snares of those deceivers.
1 Jude a servant of Jesus Christ, and [a]brother of James, to them which are called and sanctified [b]of God the Father, and [c]reserved to Jesus Christ:
2 Mercy unto you, and peace and love be multiplied.
3 [d]Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the [e]common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, to exhort you, that ye should earnestly [f]contend for the maintenance of the faith, which was [g]once given unto the Saints.
4 [h]For there are certain men crept in, which were before of old ordained to this condemnation: [i]ungodly men they are, which turn the grace of our God into wantonness, and (A)deny God the only Lord, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
5 [j]I will therefore put you in remembrance, forasmuch as ye once knew this, how that the Lord, after that he had delivered the people out of Egypt, (B)destroyed them afterward which believed not.
6 [k]The (C)Angels also which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
7 As (D)Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, which in like manner as they did, [l]committed fornication, and followed [m]strange flesh, are set forth for an example, and suffer the vengeance of eternal fire.
8 Likewise notwithstanding these [n]sleepers also defile the flesh, [o]and despise [p]government, and speak evil of them that are in authority.
9 [q]Yet Michael the Archangel, when he strove against the devil, and disputed about the body of Moses, durst not blame him with cursed speaking, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
10 [r]But these speak evil of those things, which they know not: and whatsoever things they know naturally as beasts, which are without reason, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 [s]Woe be unto them: for they have followed the way (E)of Cain, and are cast away by the deceit (F)of Balaam’s wages, and perish in the gainsaying (G)of Korah.
12 [t]These are rocks in your [u]feasts of charity, when they feast with you, without [v]all fear, feeding themselves: (H)clouds they are without water, carried about of winds, corrupt trees and without fruit, twice dead, and plucked up by the roots.
13 They are the raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shames: they are wandering stars, to whom is reserved the [w]blackness of darkness forever.
14 And Enoch also the seventh from Adam, prophesied of such, saying, (I)Behold, the Lord [x]cometh with thousands of his Saints,
15 To give judgment against all men, and to rebuke all the ungodly among them of all their wicked deeds, which they have ungodly committed, and of all their cruel speakings, which wicked sinners have spoken against him.
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts: (J)whose mouths speak proud things, having men’s persons in admiration, because of advantage.
17 [y]But, ye beloved, remember the words which were spoken before of the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:
18 How that they told you that there should be mockers (K)in the last time, which should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19 [z]These are they that separate themselves from others, natural, having not the Spirit.
20 But, ye beloved, edify yourselves in your most holy faith, praying in the holy Ghost.
21 And keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto eternal life.
22 [aa]And have compassion of some, in putting difference:
23 And others save with [ab]fear, pulling them out of the fire, and hate even that [ac]garment which is spotted by the flesh.
24 [ad]Now unto him that is able to keep you that ye fall not, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with joy,
25 That is, to God only wise, our Savior be glory, and majesty, and dominion, and power, both now and forever, Amen.
Zephaniah
1 4 Threatenings against Judah and Jerusalem, because of their idolatry.
1 The word of the Lord, which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of (A)Josiah, the son of (B)Amon king of Judah.
2 I will surely destroy all things from off the land, saith the Lord.
3 I will destroy man and beast: I will destroy the [a]fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and ruins shall be to the wicked, and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.
4 I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the [b]Chemarims with the Priests,
5 And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops, and them that worship and swear by the Lord, and swear by [c]Milcam.
6 And them that are turned back from the Lord, and those that have not sought the Lord, nor inquired for him.
7 Be still at the presence of the Lord God: for the day of the Lord is at hand: for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice, and hath sanctified his guests.
8 And it shall be in the day of the Lord’s sacrifice, that I will visit the princes and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with [d]strange apparel.
9 In the same day also will I visit all those that [e]dance upon the threshold so proudly, which fill their masters’ houses by cruelty and deceit.
10 And in that day, saith the Lord, there shall be a noise, and cry from the [f]fish gate, and an howling from the second gate, and a great destruction from the hills.
11 Howl ye inhabitants of [g]the low place: for the company of the merchants is destroyed: all they that bear silver, are cut off.
12 And at that time will I search Jerusalem with [h]lights, and visit the men that are frozen [i]in their dregs, and say in their hearts, The Lord will neither do good nor do evil.
13 Therefore their goods shall be spoiled, and their houses waste: (C)they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.
14 The great day of the Lord is near: it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: [j]the strong man shall cry there bitterly.
15 (D)That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and heaviness, a day of destruction and desolation, a day of obscurity and darkness, a day of clouds and blackness,
16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the strong cities, and against the high towers.
17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord, and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
18 (E)Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath, but the (F)whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
23 1 He is accuseth before Pilate. 7 He is sent to Herod. 11 He is mocked. 24 Pilate yieldeth him up to the Jews’ request. 27 The women bewail him. 33 He is crucified. 39 One of the thieves revileth him. 43 The other is saved by faith. 45 He dieth. 53 He is buried.
1 Then [a]the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We have found this man [b]perverting the nation, (A)and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.
3 (B)And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him, and said, Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the high Priests, and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, He moveth the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning at Galilee, even to this place.
6 [c]Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.
7 And when he knew that he was of [d]Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also at Jerusalem in those days.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him, and trusteth to have seen some sign done by him.
9 Then questioned he with him of many things: but he answered him nothing.
10 The high Priests also and Scribes stood forth and accused him vehemently.
11 And Herod with his [e]men of war, despised him, and mocked him, and arrayed him in white, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 [f]And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were enemies one to another.
13 ¶ [g]Then Pilate called together the high Priests, and the [h]rulers, and the people,
14 (C)And said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverted the people: and behold, I have examined him before you, and have found no fault in this man, of those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him: and lo, nothing worthy of death is done of him.
16 [i]I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
17 (For of necessity he must have let one loose unto them at the feast.)
18 Then all the multitude cried at once, saying, Away with him, and deliver unto us Barabbas:
19 Which for a certain insurrection made in the city, and murder, was cast in prison.
20 Then Pilate spake again to them, willing to let Jesus loose.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him.
22 [j]And he said unto them the third time, But what evil hath he done? I find no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him loose.
23 But they were instant with loud voices, and required that he might be crucified: and the voices of them and of the high Priests prevailed.
24 So Pilate gave sentence, that it should be as they required.
25 And he let loose unto them him that for insurrection and murder was cast into prison, whom they desired, and delivered Jesus to do with him what they would.
26 ¶ (D)[k]And as they led him away, they caught one Simon of Cyrene, coming out of the field, and on him they laid the cross, to bear it after Jesus.
27 [l]And there followed him a great multitude of people, and of women, which women bewailed and lamented him.
28 But Jesus turned back unto them, and said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 For behold, the days will come, when men shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, (E)Fall on us: and to the hills, Cover us.
31 (F)For if they do these things to a [m]green tree, what shall be done to the dry?
32 (G)And there were two others, which were evildoers, led with him to be slain.
33 [n]And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the evildoers: one at the right hand, and the other at the left.
34 [o]Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35 And the people stood, and beheld: and the rulers mocked him with them, saying, He saved others: let him save himself, if he be that Christ the [p]Chosen of God.
36 The soldiers also mocked him, and came and offered him vinegar,
37 And said, If thou be the King of the Jews, save thyself.
38 [q]And a superscription was also written over him, in Greek letters, and in Latin, and in Hebrew, THIS IS THAT KING OF THE JEWS.
39 ¶ [r]And [s]one of the evildoers, which were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou be that Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answered, and rebuked him, saying, Fearest thou not God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 We are indeed righteously here: for we receive things worthy of that we have done: but this man hath done nothing [t]amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me, when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 Then Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in [u]Paradise.
44 ¶ [v]And it was about the sixth hour: and there was a darkness over all the land, until the ninth hour.
45 [w]And the Sun was darkened, and the veil of the Temple rent through the midst.
46 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and said, (H)Father, into thine hands I commend my spirit. And when he thus had said, he gave up the ghost.
47 ¶ [x]Now when the Centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Of a surety this man was just.
48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done: smote their breasts, and returned.
49 [y]And all his acquaintances stood afar off, and the women that followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
50 ¶ (I)[z]And behold, there was a man named Joseph, which was a counselor, a good man and a just.
51 He did not consent to the counsel and deed of them, which was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
52 He went unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus,
53 And took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid it in a tomb hewn out of a rock, wherein was never man yet laid.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath [aa]drew on.
55 [ab]And the women also that followed after, which came with him from Galilee, beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned and prepared odors, and ointments, and resteth the Sabbath day according to the commandment.
