M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
27 And David said in his heart, “I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any border of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.”
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men who were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
4 And it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, and he sought no more again for him.
5 And David said unto Achish, “If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there; for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?”
6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day. Therefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
7 And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 And David and his men went up and invaded the Geshurites and the Girzites and the Amalekites, for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
9 And David smote the land and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep and the oxen and the asses and the camels and the apparel, and returned and came to Achish.
10 And Achish said, “Whither have ye made a raid today?” And David said, “Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.”
11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive to bring tidings to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell on us, saying, ‘So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.’”
12 And Achish believed David, saying, “He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he shall be my servant for ever.”
8 Now concerning things offered unto idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 But if any man love God, the same is known by Him.
4 Concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but One.
5 For though there be what are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many “gods” and many “lords”),
6 yet to us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we in Him, and one Lord Jesus Christ by whom are all things, and we by Him.
7 However, there is not in every man that knowledge; for some, with conscience of the idol until this hour, eat it as a thing offered unto an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
8 But meat commendeth us not to God, for neither are we the better if we eat, nor are we the worse if we eat not.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak.
10 For if any man see thee, who hast knowledge, sitting at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols,
11 and through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 For when ye sin so against the brethren and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Therefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
6 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
2 “Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them
3 and say: ‘Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God. Thus saith the Lord God to the mountains and to the hills, to the rivers and to the valleys: Behold I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
4 And your altars shall be desolate, and your images shall be broken; and I will cast down your slain men before your idols.
5 And I will lay the dead carcasses of the children of Israel before their idols; and I will scatter your bones round about your altars.
6 In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be desolate, that your altars may be laid waste and made desolate, and your idols may be broken and cease, and your images may be cut down, and your works may be abolished.
7 And the slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
8 “‘Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
9 And they that escape from among you shall remember Me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart which hath departed from Me, and with their eyes which go a whoring after their idols. And they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
10 And they shall know that I am the Lord, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.
11 “‘Thus saith the Lord God: Smite with thine hand and stamp with thy foot, and say: “Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel!” For they shall fall by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.
12 He that is far off shall die of the pestilence, and he that is near shall fall by the sword, and he that remaineth and is besieged shall die by the famine; thus will I accomplish My fury upon them.
13 Then shall ye know that I am the Lord, when their slain men shall be among their idols round about their altars, upon every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every thick oak, the place where they offered sweet savor to all their idols.
14 So will I stretch out My hand upon them and make the land desolate, yea, more desolate than the wilderness toward Diblath, in all their habitations; and they shall know that I am the Lord.’”
44 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us what work Thou didst in their days, in the times of old:
2 how Thou didst drive out the heathen with Thy hand, and planted them; how Thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but by Thy right hand and Thine arm and the light of Thy countenance, because Thou hadst favor unto them.
4 Thou art my King, O God; command deliverances for Jacob.
5 Through Thee will we push down our enemies; through Thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.
6 For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me;
7 but Thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.
8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise Thy name for ever. Selah
9 But Thou hast cast us off and put us to shame, and goest not forth with our armies.
10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy, and they that hate us despoil us for themselves.
11 Thou hast given us up like sheep appointed for slaughter, and hast scattered us among the heathen.
12 Thou sellest Thy people for nought, and dost not increase Thy wealth by their price.
13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.
14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.
15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,
16 for the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth by reason of the enemy and avenger.
17 All this has come upon us; yet have we not forgotten Thee, neither have we dealt falsely in Thy covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back, neither have our steps turned from Thy way,
19 though Thou hast sorely broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god,
21 shall not God search this out? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.
22 Yea, for Thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Awake! Why sleepest Thou, O Lord? Arise! Cast us not off for ever.
24 Why hidest Thou Thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth.
26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for Thy mercies’ sake.
