M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
Christ is our advocate. Of true love, and how it is tried.
2 My little children, these things I write to you so that you do not sin. Yet if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father: Jesus Christ the Righteous, 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for our sins only, but also for the sins of all the world.
3 And hereby are we sure that we know him: if we keep his commandments. 4 He who says, I know him, and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 Whoever keeps his word, in him is the love of God perfected in deed. And thereby we know that we are in him. 6 He who says he abides in him ought to walk even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but that old commandment that you heard from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write to you, a thing that is true in him and also in you. For the darkness is past and the true light now shines. 9 He who says that he is in the light and yet hates his brother, is in darkness even until this time. 10 He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of evil in him. 11 He who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he goes because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 Babes, I write to you because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. 13 I write to you fathers because you know him who was from the beginning. I write to you young men because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you little children because you know the Father. 14 I write to you fathers because you know him who was from the beginning. I write to you young men because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome that wicked one.
15 See that you love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world (as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of goods) is not of the Father, but of the world. 17 And the world is vanishing away, and the desires of it. But he who fulfils the will of God endures forever.
18 Little children, it is the last time. And as you have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now there are many Antichrists come already. By this we know that it is the last time. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us. But this happened so that it might appear that they were not of us.
20 And you have an anointing of the Holy Spirit, and you know all things. 21 I did not write to you as though you did not know the truth, but as knowing it, and as knowing also that no lie comes of truth. 22 Who is a liar, but he who denies that Jesus is Christ? He is the Antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son, the same does not have the Father.
24 Let therefore abide in you that which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will continue in the Son and in the Father. 25 And the promise that he has promised us is eternal life.
26 This I have written to you concerning those who deceive you.
27 And the anointing that you have received from him dwells in you, and you need not that any man teach you – but as the anointing teaches you all things, and is true, and is no lie, and as it taught you, even so abide therein.
28 And now babes, abide in him, so that when he appears we may be bold, and not be made ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, know also that he who follows righteousness is born of him.
Christ teaches his disciples to avoid occasions of evil, to forgive one another, steadfastly to trust in God, and that no one should presume in his own works. He heals the ten lepers, and speaks of the latter days, and of the end of the world.
17 Then Jesus said to his disciples, It cannot be avoided but that offences will come. Nevertheless, woe be to him through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him that a millstone were hung about his neck and that he were cast into the sea, than that he should hurt one of these little ones.
3 Take heed to yourselves. If your brother trespasses against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. 4 And even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turns again to you saying, I am sorry – forgive him.
5 And the apostles said to the Lord, Increase our faith. 6 And the Lord said, If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, and were to say to this sycamine tree, Pluck yourself up by the roots and plant yourself in the sea, it would obey you.
7 Who among you, if he had a servant plowing or feeding sheep, would say to him when he came in from the field, Go quickly, and sit down to food? 8 And not rather say to him, Prepare for me to sup, and gird yourself up, and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you shall eat and drink? 9 Does he thank that servant because he did that which was commanded of him? I think not. 10 So likewise you, when you have done all the things that are commanded of you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which was our duty to do.
11 And it so was that, as he journeyed to Jerusalem, he passed through Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered into a certain town, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off, 13 and put forth their voices and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!
14 When he saw them, he said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass that as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was cleansed, turned back again and with a loud voice praised God, 16 and fell down on his face at Jesus’ feet, and gave him thanks. And he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answered and said, Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the other nine? 18 There are not found any that returned again to give God praise, save only this stranger. 19 And he said to the man, Arise and go your way; your faith has made you whole.
20 When he was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with watching for it. 21 Neither may men say, See here, look there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
22 And he said to the disciples, The days will come when you will desire to see one day of the Son of man, and you will not see it. 23 And they will say to you, See here, see there! Do not go after them or follow them. 24 For as the lightning that appears out of the one part of the heaven and shines to the other part of heaven, so shall the Son of man be in his days. 25 But first he must suffer many things, and be refused by this nation.
26 As it happened in the time of Noah, so shall it be in the time of the Son of man: 27 they ate, they drank, they married wives, and were married, right up to the same day that Noah went into the ark; and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise also as it happened in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built. 29 And even the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. 30 After these examples shall it be in the day when the Son of man appears.
31 At that day, let him who is on the housetop, with his stuff in the house, not come down to take it out. And likewise, let not him who is in the fields turn back again to what he left behind. 32 Remember Lot’s wife. 33 Whosoever would go about to save his life, shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life, shall save it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed; the one will be received, and the other will be left. 35 Two will also be a-grinding together; the one will be received, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said to him, Where, Lord? And he said to them, Wherever the body is, there will the eagles resort.
