Judges 16

16 ¶ Then Samson went to Gaza and saw a harlot there and went in unto her.

And it was told unto those of Gaza, Samson is come here. And they compassed him in and laid in wait for him all night in the gate of the city and were quiet all that night, saying, In the morning when it is light, we shall kill him.

And Samson slept until midnight and arose at midnight and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.

¶ And it came to pass afterward that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

And the cardinals of the Philistines came up unto her and said unto her, Entice him and see what gives him his great strength and by what means we may overcome him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and each one of us will give thee eleven hundred pieces of silver.

And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, what gives thee thy great strength and how might thou be bound to afflict thee.

And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green wicker strands that were never dried, then I shall become weak and be as any other man.

Then the cardinals of the Philistines brought up to her seven green wicker strands which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

Now there were men lying in wait in a chamber of her house. And she said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he broke the wicker strands as a thread of tow is broken when it touches the fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.

10 Then Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me and told me lies; now tell me, I pray thee, how thou might be bound.

11 And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then I shall become weak and be as any other man.

12 Delilah therefore took new ropes and bound him with them and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And there were men lying in wait abiding in a chamber. But he broke them from off his arms like a thread.

13 And Delilah said unto Samson, Until now thou hast mocked me, and told me lies. Tell me, therefore, now, how thou might be bound. Then he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the cloth.

14 And she fastened it with the stake and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep and went away with the stake of the loom and with the cloth.

15 And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thy heart is not with me? Thou hast mocked me these three times and hast not yet told me what gives thee thy great strength.

16 And it came to pass that, pressing and grinding him daily with her words, his soul was reduced unto mortal anguish.

17 Therefore, he told her all his heart and said unto her, A razor has never come upon my head, for I am a Nazarite of God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.

18 ¶ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the cardinals of the Philistines, saying, Come up this time, for he has showed me all his heart. Then the cardinals of the Philistines came up unto her and brought the money in their hand.

19 And she caused him to sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

20 And she said, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep and said, This time I will go out like before and escape; not knowing that the LORD had departed from him.

21 But the Philistines took hold of him and put out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with fetters of iron that he should grind in the prison house.

22 ¶ And the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

23 Then the cardinals of the Philistines gathered themselves together to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god and to rejoice, for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hands.

24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god, for they said, Our god has delivered our enemy into our hands, the destroyer of our country, who slew many of us.

25 And it came to pass when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson that he may make us laugh. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport, and they set him between the pillars.

26 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Bring me near and let me feel the pillars upon which the house stands that I may lean upon them.

27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the cardinals of the Philistines were there, and upon the roof there were about three thousand men and women that beheld while Samson was mocked.

28 Then Samson called unto the LORD and said, O Lord GOD, remember me now and strengthen me now only this once, O God, that I may take vengeance at once of the Philistines for my two eyes.

29 Then Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood and on which it was borne up, and leaned upon them, on the one with his right hand and on the other with his left.

30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he pushed with all his might, and the house fell upon the cardinals and upon all the people that were in it. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than those which he slew in his life.

31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the sepulchre of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

Acts 20

20 ¶ And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called the disciples and embraced them and departed to go into Macedonia.

And when he had gone over those parts and had exhorted them with much word, he came into Greece

and there abode three months. And when the Jews laid in wait for him, as he was about to sail into Syria, he took counsel to return through Macedonia.

And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

These going before tarried for us at Troas.

And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread and came unto them to Troas in five days, where we abode seven days.

¶ And the first of the sabbaths, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart the next day, and continued his word until midnight.

And there were many lamps in the upper chamber, where they were gathered together.

And a certain young man named Eutychus sat in a window, being fallen into a deep sleep; and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep and fell down from the third loft and was taken up dead.

10 And Paul went down and fell on him and, embracing him, said, Trouble not yourselves, for his soul is still in him.

11 When he therefore was come up again and had broken bread and eaten and talked a long while, even until day break, thus he departed.

12 And they took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

13 ¶ And we went into the ship and sailed unto Assos, intending to take in Paul there, for so he had determined that he should go by land.

14 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in and came to Mitylene.

15 And we sailed from there and came the next day over against Chios, and the next day we arrived in port at Samos; and having rested in Trogyllium, the next day we came to Miletus.

16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, not to detain himself in Asia, for he hasted to keep the day of Pentecost, if it were possible for him, in Jerusalem.

17 ¶ And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the congregation. {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}

18 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,

19 serving the Lord with all humility and with many tears and temptations, which have befallen me by the ambushes of the Jews,

20 and how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you and have taught you publicly and from house to house,

21 testifying both to the Jews and also to the Gentiles, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

22 And now, behold, I go bound of the Spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there,

23 except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that prisons and tribulations await me.

24 But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear unto myself, only that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.

26 Therefore I take you to record this day that I am pure from the blood of everyone.

27 For I have not refrained from declaring unto you the full counsel of God.

28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves.

31 Therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is powerful to build you up and to give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

33 I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.

34 Moreover, ye yourselves know that these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to those that were with me.

35 I have showed you in all things how that so labouring, ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

36 ¶ And when he had thus spoken, he knelt down and prayed with them all.

37 Then they all wept sore and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him,

38 sorrowing most of all for the word which he spoke, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

Jeremiah 29

29 ¶ Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away captives, and to the priests and to the prophets and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

(after Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem;)

by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon) saying,

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said, unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon,

Build houses and dwell in them; and plant gardens and eat the fruit of them;

take wives and beget sons and daughters; give wives unto your sons and give husbands unto your daughters, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be multiplied there and not diminished.

And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

¶ For thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said: Let not your prophets and your diviners that are in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye dream.

For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, said the LORD.

10 For thus hath the LORD said, That after seventy years are accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and quicken my good word upon you to cause you to return to this place.

11 For I know the thoughts that I think concerning you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you the end that you wait for.

12 Then ye shall call upon me, and ye shall walk in my ways and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, for ye shall seek me with all your heart.

14 And I will be found of you, said the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the Gentiles and from all the places where I have driven you, said the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 ¶ But ye have said, The LORD has raised us up prophets in Babylon;

16 know that thus hath the LORD said of the king that sits upon the throne of David and of all the people that dwell in this city and of your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

17 thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence and will make them like the evil figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will give them over as a reproach to all the kingdoms of the earth, as a curse, and as an astonishment, and a hissing, and an affront, unto all the Gentiles where I have driven them:

19 because they did not hearken unto my words, said the LORD, which I sent unto them by my slaves the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye did not hear, said the LORD.

20 Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity, whom I have cast out of Jerusalem unto Babylon:

21 Thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said regarding Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and regarding Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy falsely unto you in my name; Behold, I deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

22 and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

23 because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbours’ wives, and have spoken a word falsely in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know and am a witness, saith the LORD.

24 Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

25 Thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel spoken, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem and to Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah and to all the priests, saying,

26 The LORD has made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that ye should preside in the house of the LORD over every man that is furious and prophesies, putting him in the prison and in the stocks.

27 Now therefore why hast thou not reprehended Jeremiah of Anathoth, for prophesying falsely unto you?

28 For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is long: build houses and dwell in them and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them.

29 And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, saying,

31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus hath the LORD said concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah has prophesied unto you, and I did not send him, and he caused you to trust upon a lie;

32 therefore thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I visit upon Shemaiah the Nehelamite and upon his generation: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold that good which I do unto my people, said the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD.

Mark 15

15 ¶ And straightway in the morning the princes of the priests having held a consultation with the elders and with the scribes and with the whole council, took Jesus away bound and delivered him to Pilate.

And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he, answering, said unto him, Thou sayest it.

And the princes of the priests accused him of many things.

And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they accuse thee of.

But Jesus yet answered nothing, so that Pilate marvelled.

Now at that feast it was customary that he release unto them one prisoner, whoever they desired.

And there was one named Barabbas, who lay bound with those that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had always done unto them.

And Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

10 For he knew that the princes of the priests had delivered him for envy.

11 But the princes of the priests moved the multitude that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13 And they cried out again, crucify him. {Gr. stauroo – Hang him on a stake}

14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil has he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, crucify him.

15 ¶ And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they call together the whole band.

17 And they clothed him with purple and platted a crown of thorns and put it about his head

18 and began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19 And they smote him on the head with a reed and spit upon him and bowing their knees worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him and put his own clothes on him and led him out to crucify him.

21 And they compel one Simon, a Cyrenian, who passed by coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross. {Gr. stauros – stake}

22 ¶ And they brought him unto the place of Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, but he received it not.

24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

25 And it was the third hour when they crucified him.

26 And the inscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

27 And with him they crucified two thieves: the one on his right hand and the other on his left.

28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which says, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

29 And those that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads and saying, Ah, thou that would destroy the temple of God and build it in three days,

30 save thyself and come down from the cross. {Gr. stauros – stake}

31 Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

32 Let the Christ, King of Israel, descend now from the stake that we may see and believe. And those that were crucified {Gr. Stauroo – to hang on a stake} with him reviled him.

33 ¶ And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

35 And some of those that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calls Elijah.

36 And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar and put it on a reed and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.

37 But Jesus, giving a great cry, expired.

38 Then the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom.

39 And when the centurion, who stood in front of him, saw that he so cried out and expired, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 There were also some women looking on afar off, among whom was Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the lesser and of Joses, and Salome

41 (who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered unto him), and many other women who came up with him unto Jerusalem.

42 ¶ And now when the evening was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

43 Joseph of Arimathaea, a noble senator, who also waited for the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly unto Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

44 And Pilate marvelled that he was already dead; and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead.

45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

46 And he bought fine linen and took him down and wrapped him in the linen and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
