M’Cheyne Bible Reading Plan
24 “When a man takes a wife and marries her, and he does not like her because he finds something bad in her, he will write her a paper of divorce and give it to her and send her away from his house. 2 When she leaves his house, she may go and become another man’s wife. 3 If the second husband turns against her and gives her a paper of divorce and sends her out of his house, or if the second husband dies who took her for his wife, 4 then her first husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her for his wife again, because she has become unclean. It is a hated thing to the Lord and you must not bring sin on the land the Lord your God is giving you.
5 “When a man takes a new wife, he must not go with the army or be given any other work. He should be free to be at home one year to make the wife he has taken happy.
6 “No one should take a man’s stones that he uses to crush grain as a promise to pay what he owes, for he would be taking away a man’s living.
7 “If a man is found stealing one of his brothers of the sons of Israel, and makes it hard for him, or sells him, then that robber must die. You must get rid of the sin from among you.
8 “When there is a very bad skin disease, be careful to do all the Levite religious leaders tell you to do. Be careful to do what I have told them. 9 Remember what the Lord your God did to Miriam on your way out of Egypt.
10 “When you let your neighbor use anything of yours, do not go into his house to take what he would give you to make his promise sure. 11 Stay outside. The man who is using something of yours will bring the object out to you. 12 If he is a poor man, do not keep what he gives you through the night. 13 Return his coat to him when the sun goes down so he may sleep in it and be thankful for you. You will be doing what is right before the Lord your God.
14 “Do not make it hard for a paid servant who is poor and in need, if he is one of your brothers or one of the strangers who is living in one of your towns. 15 Give him his pay on the day he earns it before the sun goes down. He is poor and he needs it. Then he will not cry to the Lord against you and you would be guilty of sin.
16 “Fathers are not to be put to death for their children. Children are not to be put to death for their fathers. Each man will be put to death for his own sin.
17 “Do what is fair for a stranger or a child whose parents are dead. Do not take the clothing of a woman whose husband has died to make sure she will pay what she owes. 18 Remember that you were servants in Egypt, and that the Lord your God set you free. So I am telling you to do this.
19 “When you gather the grain in your field and have forgotten some of it, do not return to the field to get it. Leave it for the stranger, the child whose parents have died, and the woman whose husband has died. Then the Lord your God will bring good to you in all the work of your hands. 20 When you beat your olive trees, do not beat the branches a second time. Leave the fruit for the stranger, the child whose parents have died, and the woman whose husband has died. 21 When you gather the grapes from your vines, do not gather a second time. Leave them for the stranger, the child whose parents have died, and the woman whose husband has died. 22 Remember that you were servants in the land of Egypt. Because of this, I am telling you to do this.
God Takes Israel from Egypt
114 Israel came out of Egypt. The house of Jacob came from a people who spoke a strange language. 2 Then Judah became His holy place, and Israel became the place of His rule.
3 The sea looked and ran away. The Jordan turned back. 4 The mountains jumped like sheep, the hills like lambs. 5 Why did you try to get away, O sea? Why did you turn back, O Jordan? 6 O mountains, why did you jump like sheep? O hills, why did you jump like lambs?
7 Shake in fear before the Lord, O earth, before the God of Jacob. 8 He changed the rock into a pool of water. He made water flow out of hard rock.
One True God
115 Let honor be given to Your name and not to us, O Lord, not to us. Because You are loving and kind and faithful. 2 Why should the nations say, “Where is their God now?” 3 But our God is in the heavens. He does whatever He wants to do. 4 Their gods are silver and gold, the work of human hands. 5 They have mouths but they cannot speak. They have eyes but they cannot see. 6 They have ears but they cannot hear. They have noses but they cannot smell. 7 They have hands but they cannot feel. They have feet but they cannot walk. They cannot make a sound come out of their mouths. 8 Those who make them and trust them will be like them.
9 O Israel, trust in the Lord. He is their help and safe-covering. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord. He is their help and safe-covering. 11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord. He is their help and safe-covering. 12 The Lord has remembered us and will make good come to us. He will make good come to the house of Israel. He will make good come to the house of Aaron. 13 He will make good come to those who fear the Lord, both the small and the great. 14 May the Lord make your numbers grow, both you and your children. 15 May you be given good things by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
16 The heavens belong to the Lord. But He has given the earth to the children of men. 17 The dead do not praise the Lord. Neither do those who go down into the quiet place. 18 But we will give honor and thanks to the Lord, now and forever. Praise the Lord!
Comfort for Zion
51 “Listen to me, you who are following what is right and good, and who are looking for the Lord. Look to the rock from which you were cut out, and to the hole from which you were dug. 2 Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who gave birth to you in pain. When he was but one, I called him. Then I brought good to him and made him many.” 3 For the Lord will comfort Zion. He will comfort all her waste places. He will make her desert like Eden, like the garden of the Lord. Joy and happiness will be found in her. There will be much giving of thanks and much singing.
4 “Listen to Me, O My people. Hear Me, O My nation. The Law will go out from Me and My Law will be a light to the people. 5 My being right and good is near. My saving power has gone out, and My arms will judge the people. The islands will wait for Me. They will trust with hope for My arm. 6 Lift up your eyes to the sky, and look to the earth below. For the sky will go away like smoke. And the earth will wear out like a piece of clothing and those who live in it will die like flies. But My saving power will be forever. My being right and good will not come to an end. 7 Listen to Me, you who know what is right and good, you people who have My Law in your hearts. Do not fear the shame of strong words from man. Do not be troubled when they speak against you. 8 For the moth will eat them like a piece of clothing. And the worm will eat them like wool. But My being right and good will be forever. My saving power will be to all children’s children to come.”
9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord. Awake as in the days of old, as You did with the people who lived long ago. Was it not You Who cut Rahab in pieces, and Who cut through the big dragon? 10 Was it not You Who dried up the sea, the deep waters, and Who made a path through the deep sea for Your saved people to cross over? 11 So the people, for whom the Lord paid the price to be saved, will return. They will come with songs of joy to Zion. Joy that lasts forever will be on their heads. They will receive joy and happiness, and sorrow and sad voices will hurry away.
12 “I, even I, am He Who comforts you. Who are you that you are afraid of a man who dies? Why are you afraid of the sons of men who are made like grass, 13 that you have forgotten the Lord Who made you? He spread out the heavens and put the earth in its place. Why do you live in fear all day long because of the anger of the one who makes it hard for you as he makes ready to destroy? But where is his anger? 14 The one in chains will soon be set free, and will not die in prison. And he will always have enough bread. 15 For I am the Lord your God, Who fills the sea with action so that its waves sound: The Lord of All is His name. 16 I have put My words in your mouth, and have covered you with the shadow of My hand. I spread out the heavens and put the earth in its place, and say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”
No More Suffering for Jerusalem
17 Awake! awake! Stand up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the Lord’s hand the cup of His anger. You drank it down, and you had trouble walking. 18 There is no one to lead her among all the sons born of her. There is no one to take her by the hand among all the sons she has brought up. 19 These two things have come upon you: Being laid waste and destroyed, hunger and the sword. Who will have sorrow for you? How can I comfort you? 20 Your sons have become weak and have fallen down. They cannot help themselves and they lie at the top of every street, like a deer in a net. The Lord has poured out His anger and sharp words upon them.
21 So hear this, you who are suffering, who are drunk, but not with wine. 22 Your Lord, the Lord your God Who fights for His people, says, “See, I have taken out of your hand the cup that makes you have trouble walking. You will never drink from the cup of My anger again. 23 I will put it into the hand of those who make it hard for you, who have said to you, ‘Lie down that we may walk over you.’ You have made your back like the ground and like the street for them to walk over.”
All Things New
21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had passed away. There was no more sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem. It was coming down out of heaven from God. It was made ready like a bride is made ready for her husband. 3 I heard a loud voice coming from heaven. It said, “See! God’s home is with men. He will live with them. They will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will be their God. 4 God will take away all their tears. There will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All the old things have passed away.” 5 Then the One sitting on the throne said, “See! I am making all things new. Write, for these words are true and faithful.” 6 Then He said to me, “These things have happened! I am the First and the Last. I am the beginning and the end. To anyone who is thirsty, I will give the water of life. It is a free gift. 7 He who has power and wins will receive these things. I will be his God and he will be My son. 8 But those who are afraid and those who do not have faith and the sinful-minded people and those who kill other people and those who do sex sins and those who follow witchcraft and those who worship false gods and all those who tell lies will be put into the lake of fire and sulphur. This is the second death.”
The New Jerusalem
9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven jars full of the seven last troubles came to me and said, “Come! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 I was carried away in the Spirit by the angel to a very high mountain. He showed me the Holy City of Jerusalem. It was coming out of heaven from God. 11 It was filled with the shining-greatness of God. It shone like a stone worth much money, like a jasper stone. It was clear like glass. 12 It had a very high wall, and there were twelve gates. Twelve angels stood by the gates. The names of the twelve family groups of the Jewish nation were written on the gates. 13 There were three gates on each side. There were three on the east side and three on the north side and three on the south side and three on the west side. 14 The walls were on twelve stones. The names of the twelve missionaries of the Lamb were written on the stones.
15 The angel had a stick in his hand. It was used to find out how big the city and its gates and the walls were. 16 He found out that the city was as wide as it was long and it was as high as it was wide. It was as long as a man could walk in fifty days. It was the same each way. 17 The angel found out that the walls were the same as a man taking seventy-two long steps. The angel used the same way to find out about the city as a man would have used. 18 The wall was made of jasper. The city was made of pure gold. This gold was as clear as glass. 19 The city was built on every kind of stone that was worth much money. The first stone was jasper. The second was sapphire. The third was chalcedony. The fourth was emerald. 20 The fifth was sardonyx. The sixth was sardius. The seventh was chrysolite. The eighth was beryl. The ninth was topaz. The tenth was chrysoprase. The eleventh was jacinth and the twelfth was amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each gate was made from one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold. It was as clear as glass.
22 I did not see a house of God in the city. The All-powerful Lord God and the Lamb are the house of God in this city. 23 There is no need for the sun and moon to shine in the city. The shining-greatness of God makes it full of light. The Lamb is its light. 24 The nations will walk by its light. The kings of the earth will bring their greatness into it. 25 The gates are open all day. They will never be shut. There will be no night there. 26 The greatness and honor of all the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing sinful will go into the city. No one who is sinful-minded or tells lies can go in. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life can go in.
