Version
Deuteronomy 16

Celebrate the Passover

16 “Observe the month of Abib, keeping the Passover to the Lord your God, because the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt during the night in the month of Abib. Then sacrifice sheep and cattle for the Passover to the Lord your God at the place where the Lord your God will choose to establish his name. You must not eat any yeast with it. Instead, for seven days eat bread without yeast—the bread of affliction—because you left the land of Egypt in haste. Remember the day you went out of the land of Egypt for the rest of your lives. Yeast is not to be seen in any of your territories for seven days. The meat is not to remain from the evening of the first day until morning.

“You must not sacrifice the Passover in just any of your cities[a] that the Lord your God is about to give you. Instead, you are to sacrifice the Passover in the evening at dusk—at the time of day you left Egypt—at the place where your God will choose to establish his name. Boil and eat the Passover meal[b] at the place that the Lord your God will choose. In the morning you may go back to your tents. Eat bread without yeast for six days. Then on the seventh day, hold an assembly to the Lord your God. Don’t do any work.”

Celebrate the Festival of Weeks

“Count off seven weeks from when the sickle is first put to standing grain. 10 Then observe the Festival of Weeks in the presence of the Lord your God by giving your tribute and the freewill offering of your hands in proportion to the manner in which the Lord your God blessed you. 11 Rejoice in the presence of the Lord your God with your son, daughter, male and female slaves, the descendant of Levi who is in your city,[c] the stranger, the orphan, and the widow among you, at the place where the Lord your God will choose to establish his name. 12 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, so keep and observe these statutes.”

Celebrate the Festival of Tents

13 “Celebrate the Festival of Tents[d] for seven days after you harvest from your threshing floor and your wine press. 14 Rejoice in your festival—you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the descendants of Levi, and foreigners, orphans, and widows, who live in your cities.[e] 15 For seven days you are to celebrate in the presence of the Lord your God at the place where the Lord will choose, because the Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in everything you do, and your joy will be complete.

16 “Every male must appear in the presence of the Lord your God three times a year at the place where he will choose: for the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the Festival of Seven Weeks, and the Festival of Tents.[f] He must not appear in the Lord’s presence empty-handed, 17 but each one must appear[g] with his own gift, proportional to the blessing that the Lord your God has given you.”

Pursue Justice

18 “Appoint judges and civil servants according to your tribes in all your cities[h] that the Lord your God is about to give you, so they may judge the people impartially.[i] 19 You must not twist justice, show favoritism, or take bribes, because a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the speech of the righteous. 20 You are to pursue justice—and only justice—so you may live and possess the land that the Lord your God is about to give you.”

Prohibited Practices

21 “You are not to set up a sacred pole[j] beside the altar of the Lord your God that you will build. 22 Furthermore, you are not to erect for yourselves a sacred stone pillar, because the Lord your God detests these things.

Psalm 103

Davidic

Praise God, who Forgives

103 Bless the Lord, my soul,
and all that is within me, bless[a] his holy name.
Bless the Lord, my soul,
and never forget any of his benefits:
He continues to forgive all your sins,
he continues to heal all your diseases,
he continues to redeem your life from the Pit,[b]
    and he continuously surrounds you
        with gracious love and compassion.
He keeps satisfying you with good things,
and he keeps renewing your youth like the eagle’s.

The Lord continuously does what is right,
executing justice for all who are being oppressed.
He revealed his plans[c] to Moses
and his deeds to the people of Israel.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
patient,[d] and abundantly rich in gracious love.
He does not maintain a dispute[e] continuously
or remain angry for all time.
10 He neither deals with us according to our sins,
nor repays us equivalent to our iniquity.

11 As high as heaven rises above earth,
so his gracious love strengthens[f] those who fear him.
12 As distant as the east is from the west,
that is how far he has removed our sins from us.
13 As a father has compassion for his children,
so the Lord has compassion for those who fear him.
14 For he knows how we were formed,
aware that we were made from dust.

15 A person’s life is like grass—
    it blossoms like wild flowers,
16 but when the wind blows through it,
it withers away and no one remembers where it was.
17 Yet the Lord’s gracious love remains
throughout eternity for those who fear him
and his righteous acts extend to their children’s children,
18 to those who keep his covenant
and to those who remember to observe his precepts.
19 The Lord has established his throne in heaven
and his kingdom rules over all.

20 Bless the Lord, you angels who belong to him,
you mighty warriors who carry out his commands,
who are obedient to the sound of his words.[g]
21 Bless the Lord, all his heavenly armies,
his ministers who do his will.
22 Bless the Lord, all his creation,[h]
in all the places of his dominion.

Bless the Lord, my soul.

Isaiah 43

The Future Redemption of Israel

43 But now this is what the Lord says,
the one who created you, Jacob,
the one who formed you, Israel:
“Do not be afraid, because I’ve redeemed you.
    I’ve called you by name;
        you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I’ll be with you;
and through the rivers, they won’t sweep over you.
when you walk through fire you won’t be scorched,
and the flame won’t set you ablaze.

“I[a] am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Redeemer.[b]
And[c] I’ve given Egypt as your ransom,[d]
Cush and the people of Seba[e] in exchange for you.
Since you’re precious in my sight
    and honored,
and because I love you,
I’m giving up people in your place,
and nations in exchange for your life.”

The Regathering of Israel

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you;
I’ll bring your children from the east,
and gather you from the west.
I’ll say to the north,
    ‘Give them up’!
and to the south,
    ‘Don’t keep them back!’
Bring[f] my sons from far away
and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
        whom[g] I formed and made.

“Bring out the people who are blind, yet still have eyes,
who are deaf, yet still have ears!
Let all the nations be gathered together,
and let the peoples be assembled.

“Who is there among them who[h] can declare this,
    or announce[i] the former things?
Let them produce their witnesses to prove them right,
and let them proclaim[j] so people will say, ‘It’s true.’

10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may know and trust me
and understand that I am the One.[k]
Before me no God was formed,
nor will there be one after me.
11 I, yes I, am the Lord,
and apart from me there is no savior.
12 I’ve revealed and saved and proclaimed,
when there was no foreign god among you —
and you are my witnesses,” declares the Lord.
13 “I am God; also[l] from ancient days[m] I am the one.
    And there is no one who can deliver out of my hand;
when I act, who can reverse it?”

14 This is what the Lord says,
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“For your sake I will send to Babylon,[n]
and bring them all down as fugitives.
Now as for the Babylonians,
their ringing cry will become lamentation.
15 I am the Lord, your Holy One,
Creator of Israel, and your King.”

Something New for Israel

16 This is what the Lord says —
who makes a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
17 who brings out chariots and horsemen,
and[o] armies and warriors at the same time.
They lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a candle:[p]

18 “Don’t remember[q] the former things;
    don’t dwell on things past.
19 Watch! I’m about to carry out something new!
    And[r] now it’s springing up—
        don’t you recognize it?
I’m making a way in the wilderness
    and paths[s] in the desert.
20 Wild animals, jackals, and owls[t] will honor me
because I provide[u] water in the desert
and streams in the wilderness
to give drink to my people, my chosen ones,[v]
21 the people whom I formed for myself
and[w] so that they may speak[x] my praise.”

God is Weary of Israel

22 “And[y] yet you didn’t call upon me, Jacob;
indeed, you are tired of me, Israel!
23 You haven’t brought me your sheep for a burnt offering,[z]
nor have you honored me with[aa] your sacrifices,
nor have you made meal offerings for me[ab]
yet I have not tired you about incense!
24 You[ac] haven’t bought me sweet cane with money,
nor have you satisfied me with the fat of your sacrifices.
You have only burdened me with your sins
and made me tired with your iniquities.

25 “I, I am the one
who blots out your transgression[ad] for my own sake,
and I’ll remember your sins no more.[ae]
26 Recount the brief!
    Let’s argue the matter together;
Present your case,
so that you may be proved right.
27 Your first ancestor sinned,
and your mediators rebelled against me.
28 So I’ll disgrace the leaders of the Temple,
and I’ll consign Jacob to total destruction[af]
        and Israel to contempt.

Revelation 13

The Vision of the Beast from the Sea

13 I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns, seven heads, and ten royal crowns on its horns. On its heads were blasphemous names. The beast that I saw was like a leopard. Its feet were like bear’s feet, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. The dragon gave it his power, his throne, and complete authority.

One of the beast’s[a] heads looked like it had sustained a mortal wound, but its fatal wound was healed. Rapt with amazement, the whole world followed the beast. They worshipped the dragon because it had given authority to the beast. They also worshipped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast, and who can fight a war with it?” The beast was allowed[b] to speak arrogant and blasphemous things, and it was given authority for 42 months. It uttered[c] blasphemies against God, against his name, and against his residence,[d] that is, against those who are living in heaven. It was allowed to wage war against the saints and to conquer them.[e] It was also given authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation. All those who had become settled down and at home, living on the earth, will worship it, everyone whose name had not been written in the Book of Life belonging to the lamb that had been slaughtered since the foundation of the world.

Let everyone listen:[f]
10 If anyone is to be taken captive,
        into captivity he will go.
If anyone is to be killed with a sword,
with a sword he will be killed.

The Vision of the Beast from the Earth

Here is a call for endurance and faith of the saints:

11 I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it talked like a dragon. 12 It uses all the authority of the first beast on its behalf,[g] and it makes the earth and those living on it worship the first beast, whose mortal wound was healed. 13 It performs spectacular signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people. 14 It deceives those living on earth with the signs that it is allowed to do on behalf of[h] the first[i] beast, telling them to make an image for the beast who was wounded by a sword and yet lived. 15 The second beast[j] was allowed to impart life to the image of the first[k] beast so that the image of the beast could talk and order the execution of those who would not worship the image of the beast. 16 The second beast[l] forces all people—important and unimportant, rich and poor, free and slaves—to be marked on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that no one may buy or sell unless he has the mark, which is the beast’s name or the number of its name.

18 In this case wisdom is needed: Let the person who has understanding[m] calculate[n] the total[o] of the beast, since it is a human multitude,[p] and the sum of the multitude[q] is 600, 60, and six.[r]
