Sons of David

(A)Now these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron:

the firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;
the second was Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelitess;
the third was Absalom the son of Maacah, the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;
the fourth was Adonijah the son of Haggith;
the fifth was Shephatiah, by Abital;
the sixth was Ithream, by his wife Eglah.
Six were born to him in Hebron, and (B)there he reigned seven years and six months. And in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years.
(C)These were born to him in Jerusalem:
Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and (D)Solomon, four, by (E)Bath-shua the daughter of Ammiel;
and Ibhar, Elishama, Eliphelet,
Nogah, Nepheg, and Japhia,
Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine.
All these were the sons of David, besides the sons of the concubines; and (F)Tamar was their sister.
10 Now Solomon’s son was Rehoboam, Abijah was his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,
11 Joram his son, Ahaziah his son, Joash his son,
12 Amaziah his son, Azariah his son, Jotham his son,
13 Ahaz his son, Hezekiah his son, Manasseh his son,
14 Amon his son, Josiah his son.
15 The sons of Josiah were Johanan the firstborn, and the second was Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.
16 The sons of Jehoiakim were Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son.
17 The sons of Jeconiah, the prisoner, were Shealtiel his son,
18 and Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah.
19 The sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei.
And the [a]sons of Zerubbabel were Meshullam and Hananiah, and Shelomith was their sister;
20 and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed, five.
21 The [b]sons of Hananiah were Pelatiah and Jeshaiah, the sons of Rephaiah, the sons of Arnan, the sons of Obadiah, the sons of Shecaniah.
22 The sons of Shecaniah were Shemaiah,
and the sons of Shemaiah:
Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, six.
23 The [c]sons of Neariah were Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam, three.
24 The sons of Elioenai were Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

Sons of Judah

(G)The sons of Judah were Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.

Reaiah the son of Shobal [d]became the father of Jahath,
and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad. These were the families of the Zorathites.
These were the [e]sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash; and the name of their sister was Hazzelelponi.
Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, the father of Bethlehem.
Ashhur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari. These were the sons of Naarah.
The sons of Helah were Zereth, [f]Izhar, and Ethnan.
Koz became the father of Anub and Zobebah, and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.
Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez saying, “Because I bore him with pain.”
10 Then Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!” And God brought about what he asked.
11 Chelub the brother of Shuhah became the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.
12 Eshton became the father of Beth-rapha and Paseah, and Tehinnah the father of [g]Ir-nahash.
These are the men of Recah.
13 Now the sons of Kenaz were Othniel and Seraiah.
And the sons of Othniel were Hathath and Meonothai.
14 Meonothai became the father of Ophrah,
and Seraiah became the father of Joab the father of [h]Ge-harashim, for they were craftsmen.
15 The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh were Iru, Elah, and Naam;
and the [i]son of Elah was [j]Kenaz.
16 The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph and Ziphah, Tiria and Asarel.
17 The [k]sons of Ezrah were Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. ([l]And these are the sons of Bithia the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took) and she conceived and bore Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
18 His Jewish wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.
19 The sons of the wife of Hodiah, the sister of Naham, were the [m]fathers of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
20 The sons of Shimon were Amnon and Rinnah, Benhanan and Tilon.
And the sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-zoheth.
21 The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were Er the father of Lecah and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of the fine linen workers at Beth-ashbea;
22 and Jokim, the men of Cozeba, Joash, Saraph, who ruled in Moab, and Jashubi-lehem. And the [n]records are ancient.
23 These were the potters and the inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah; they lived there with the king for his work.

Sons of Simeon

24 The sons of Simeon were [o]Nemuel and Jamin, [p]Jarib, [q]Zerah, Shaul;
25 Shallum his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son.
26 The sons of Mishma were Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son.

27 Now Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers did not have many sons, nor did all their family multiply like the sons of Judah. 28 They lived at Beersheba, Moladah, and Hazar-shual, 29 at Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad, 30 Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag, 31 Beth-marcaboth, Hazar-susim, Beth-biri, and Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David. 32 Their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities; 33 and all their villages that were all around these cities as far as [r]Baal. These were their settlements, and they have their genealogy.

34 Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah the son of Amaziah,
35 and Joel and Jehu the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,
36 and Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,
37 Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah;
38 these, who came into the record by name, were leaders in their families; and their fathers’ houses increased greatly.

39 They went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks. 40 They found rich and good pasture, and (H)the land was broad and quiet and peaceful; for those who lived there formerly were Hamites. 41 (I)And these, recorded by name, came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and struck down their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and devoted them to destruction to this day, and lived in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42 From them, from the sons of Simeon, five hundred men went to (J)Mount Seir, with Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, as their chiefs. 43 (K)They struck down the remnant of the Amalekites who escaped, and have lived there to this day.

Hebrews 9

The Old Covenant

Now even the first covenant had (A)requirements of divine worship and (B)the earthly sanctuary. For there was (C)a tabernacle prepared: the first part, in which were (D)the lampstand and (E)the table and (F)the [a]sacred bread, which is called the holy place. And behind (G)the second veil there was a tabernacle which is called the (H)Holy of Holies, having a golden [b](I)altar of incense and (J)the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was (K)a golden jar holding the manna, and (L)Aaron’s rod which budded, and (M)the tablets of the covenant. And above it were the (N)cherubim of glory (O)overshadowing the [c]mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

Now when these things have been so prepared, the priests (P)are continually entering the first part of the tabernacle performing the divine worship, but into (Q)the second, only (R)the high priest enters (S)once a year, (T)not without taking blood, which he (U)offers for himself and for the [d](V)sins of the people committed in ignorance. (W)The Holy Spirit is indicating this, (X)that the way into the holy places has not yet been manifested while that first part of the tabernacle is still standing, which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly (Y)both gifts and sacrifices are offered which (Z)cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10 since they relate only to (AA)food and (AB)drink and various (AC)washings, (AD)requirements for the [e]body imposed until (AE)a time of reformation.

The New Covenant

11 But when Christ appeared as a (AF)high priest of the (AG)good things [f]to come, He entered through (AH)the greater and more perfect tabernacle, (AI)not made with hands, that is to say, (AJ)not of this creation, 12 and not through (AK)the blood of goats and calves, but (AL)through His own blood, He (AM)entered the holy places (AN)once for all, [g]having obtained (AO)eternal redemption. 13 For if (AP)the blood of goats and bulls and (AQ)the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the [h]cleansing of the flesh, 14 how much more will (AR)the blood of Christ, who through [i](AS)the eternal Spirit (AT)offered Himself without blemish to God, (AU)cleanse [j]your conscience from (AV)dead works to serve (AW)the living God?

15 And for this reason (AX)He is the (AY)mediator of a (AZ)new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the trespasses that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been (BA)called may (BB)receive the promise of (BC)the eternal inheritance. 16 For where a [k]covenant is, there must of necessity [l]be the death of the one who made it. 17 For a [m]covenant is valid only when [n]men are dead, [o]for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. 18 Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood. 19 For when every commandment had been (BD)spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, (BE)he took the (BF)blood of the calves and the goats, with (BG)water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both (BH)the book itself and all the people, 20 saying, “(BI)This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” 21 And in the same way, both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry he (BJ)sprinkled with the blood. 22 And according to the [p]Law, one may (BK)almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and (BL)without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23 Therefore it was necessary for the (BM)copies of the things in the heavens to be cleansed with these, but (BN)the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ (BO)did not enter holy places made with hands, mere copies of (BP)the true ones, but into (BQ)heaven itself, now (BR)to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 nor was it that He would offer Himself often, as (BS)the high priest enters (BT)the holy places (BU)year by year with blood that is not his own. 26 Otherwise, He would have needed to suffer often since (BV)the foundation of the world; but now (BW)once at (BX)the consummation of the ages He has been (BY)manifested to put away sin [q](BZ)by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And inasmuch as (CA)it is [r]appointed for men to die once and after this (CB)comes judgment, 28 so Christ also, having been (CC)offered once to (CD)bear the sins of many, will appear (CE)a second time for (CF)salvation (CG)without reference to sin, to those who (CH)eagerly await Him.

Amos 3

Yahweh Speaks Against Israel

Hear this word which Yahweh has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire [a](A)family which [b]He brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

(B)You only have I known among all the families of the earth;
Therefore I will [c](C)punish you for all your iniquities.”
Do two men walk together unless they have made an [d]appointment?
Does a (D)lion roar in the forest when it has no prey?
Does a young lion give forth its voice from its den unless it has captured something?
Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no [e]bait in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
If a (E)trumpet is blown in a city will not the people tremble?
If a (F)calamity happens in a city has not Yahweh done it?
[f]Surely Lord Yahweh does nothing
Unless He (G)reveals His secret counsel
To His slaves the prophets.
A (H)lion has roared! Who will not fear?
(I)Lord Yahweh has spoken! (J)Who can but prophesy?

Make it heard on the citadels in (K)Ashdod and on the citadels in the land of Egypt and say, “Gather yourselves on the (L)mountains of Samaria and see the great confusions within her and the (M)oppressions in her midst. 10 But they (N)do not know how to do what is right,” declares Yahweh, “these who (O)hoard up [g]violence and devastation in their citadels.”

11 Therefore, thus says Lord Yahweh,

“An (P)adversary, even one surrounding the land,
Will pull down your [h]strength from you,
And your (Q)citadels will be plundered.”

12 Thus says Yahweh,

“Just as the shepherd (R)delivers from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear,
So will the sons of Israel inhabiting Samaria be delivered—
With the (S)corner of a bed and the [i](T)cover of a couch!
13 Hear and (U)testify against the house of Jacob,”
Declares Lord Yahweh, the God of hosts.
14 “For on the day that I punish Israel’s transgressions,
I will also punish the altars of (V)Bethel;
The horns of the altar will be cut in pieces,
And they will fall to the ground.
15 I will also strike the [j](W)winter house together with the (X)summer house;
The houses of [k](Y)ivory will also perish,
And the (Z)great houses will come to an end,”
Declares Yahweh.

Psalm 146-147

I Will Praise Yahweh Throughout My Life

146 [a]Praise Yah!
(A)Praise Yahweh, O my soul!
I will praise Yahweh (B)throughout my life;
I will (C)sing praises to my God while I have my being.
(D)Do not trust in nobles,
In merely a son of (E)man, in whom there is (F)no salvation.
His (G)spirit departs, he (H)returns to [b]the earth;
In that very day his (I)plans perish.
How (J)blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
Whose (K)hope is in Yahweh his God,
Who (L)made heaven and earth,
The (M)sea and all that is in them;
Who (N)keeps truth forever;
Who (O)does justice for the oppressed;
Who (P)gives food to the hungry.
Yahweh (Q)sets the prisoners free.

Yahweh (R)opens the eyes of the blind;
Yahweh (S)raises up those who are bowed down;
Yahweh (T)loves the righteous;
Yahweh (U)keeps the sojourners;
He [c](V)helps up the orphan and the widow,
But He bends (W)the way of the wicked.
10 Yahweh will (X)reign forever,
Your God, O Zion, [d]from generation to generation.
[e]Praise Yah!

He Heals the Brokenhearted

147 [f]Praise Yah!
For (Y)it is good to sing praises to our God;
For [g]it is pleasant and praise is (Z)becoming.
Yahweh (AA)builds up Jerusalem;
He (AB)gathers the [h]outcasts of Israel.
He is the One who heals the (AC)brokenhearted
And who (AD)binds up their [i]wounds,
Who (AE)counts the number of the stars;
He [j](AF)gives names to all of them.
(AG)Great is our Lord and abundant in power;
His (AH)discernment is [k]infinite.
Yahweh [l](AI)helps up the afflicted;
He brings down the wicked to the ground.

(AJ)Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving;
Sing praises to our God on the lyre.
He is the One who (AK)covers the heavens with clouds,
The One who (AL)provides rain for the earth,
The One who (AM)makes grass to sprout on the mountains,
Who (AN)gives to the animal its food,
And to the (AO)young ravens which call out.
10 He does not delight in the might of the (AP)horse;
He (AQ)does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
11 Yahweh (AR)is pleased with those who fear Him,
(AS)Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

12 Laud Yahweh, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He strengthened the (AT)bars of your gates;
He (AU)blessed your sons within you.
14 He is the One who (AV)sets [m]peace in your borders,
He (AW)satisfies you with (AX)the [n]finest of the wheat,
15 The One who sends forth His (AY)command to the earth;
His (AZ)word runs very swiftly,
16 The One who gives (BA)snow like wool;
He scatters the (BB)frost like ashes,
17 Who casts forth His (BC)ice as fragments;
Who can stand before His (BD)cold?
18 He (BE)sends forth His word and melts them;
He (BF)causes His wind to blow and so the waters flow,
19 Who (BG)declares His words to Jacob,
His (BH)statutes and His judgments to Israel.
20 He (BI)has not done so with any nation;
So as for His judgments, they have (BJ)not known them.
[o]Praise Yah!
