BOOK 1
The Way of the Righteous and Wicked
1 How blessed is the man who (A)does not walk in the (B)counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the (C)way of sinners,
Nor (D)sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his (E)delight is (F)in the law of [a]Yahweh,
And in His law he meditates (G)day and (H)night.
3 And he will be like (I)a tree firmly planted by [b]streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its [c]leaf does not wither;
And [d]in whatever he does, (J)he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
But they are like (K)chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore (L)the wicked will not rise in the (M)judgment,
Nor sinners in (N)the congregation of the righteous.
6 For Yahweh [e](O)knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of (P)the wicked will perish.
The Reign of Yahweh’s Anointed
2 Why do (Q)the [f]nations rage
And the peoples (R)meditate on a vain thing?
2 The (S)kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
(T)Against Yahweh and against His [g](U)Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us (V)tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
4 He who [h]sits in the heavens (W)laughs,
The Lord (X)mocks them.
5 Then He speaks to them in His (Y)anger
And (Z)terrifies them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have [i]installed (AA)My King
Upon Zion, (AB)My holy mountain.”
7 “I will surely tell of the [j]decree of Yahweh:
He said to Me, ‘You are (AC)My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and (AD)I will surely give (AE)the [k]nations as Your inheritance,
And the (AF)ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 You shall [l](AG)break them with a [m]rod of iron,
You shall (AH)shatter them like a potter’s vessel.’”
10 So now, O kings, (AI)show insight;
Take warning, O [n]judges of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh with (AJ)fear
And rejoice with (AK)trembling.
12 [o]Kiss (AL)the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way,
For (AM)His [p]wrath may [q]soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who (AN)take refuge in Him!
Yahweh, Save Me
A Psalm of David. When [r]he fled from Absalom his son.
3 O Yahweh, how (AO)my adversaries have become many!
Many are rising up against me.
2 Many are saying [s]of my soul,
“There is no (AP)salvation for him in God.” [t]Selah.
3 But You, O Yahweh, are (AQ)a shield about me,
My (AR)glory, and the One who (AS)lifts my head.
4 I was calling to Yahweh with my voice,
And He (AT)answered me from (AU)His holy [u]mountain. Selah.
5 [v]I (AV)lay down and slept;
I awoke, for Yahweh sustains me.
6 I will (AW)not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who all around (AX)have set themselves against me.
7 (AY)Arise, O Yahweh; (AZ)save me, O my God!
For You have (BA)struck all my enemies on the [w]cheek;
You [x]have (BB)shattered the teeth of the wicked.
8 [y](BC)Salvation belongs to Yahweh;
Your (BD)blessing [z]be upon Your people! Selah.
Yahweh Makes Me Abide in Safety
[aa]For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.
4 (BE)Answer me when (BF)I call, O God [ab]of my righteousness!
You have [ac](BG)relieved me in my distress;
Be (BH)gracious to me and (BI)hear my prayer.
2 O sons of men, how long will (BJ)my glory become (BK)a reproach?
How long will you love (BL)what is worthless and seek (BM)falsehood? [ad]Selah.
3 But know that Yahweh has [ae](BN)set apart the (BO)holy one for Himself;
Yahweh (BP)hears when I call to Him.
4 [af](BQ)Tremble, [ag](BR)and do not sin;
[ah](BS)Ponder in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer [ai]the (BT)sacrifices of righteousness,
And (BU)trust in Yahweh.
6 Many are saying, “(BV)Who will show us good?”
(BW)Lift up the light of Your face upon us, O Yahweh!
7 You have put (BX)gladness in my heart,
More than when their grain and new wine abound.
8 In peace I will [aj]both (BY)lie down and sleep,
For You alone, O Yahweh, make me to (BZ)abide in safety.
Lead Me in Your Righteousness
For the choir director. For [ak]the flutes. A Psalm of David.
5 (CA)Give ear to my words, O Yahweh,
Consider my (CB)meditation.
2 Give heed to (CC)the sound of my cry for help, (CD)my King and my God,
For to You I pray.
3 O Yahweh, in the morning, [al]You will hear my voice;
In the (CE)morning I will order my [am]prayer to You and eagerly (CF)watch.
4 For You are not a God (CG)who delights in wickedness;
(CH)Evil does not sojourn with You.
5 The (CI)boastful shall not (CJ)stand before Your eyes;
You (CK)hate all workers of iniquity.
6 You (CL)destroy those who speak falsehood;
Yahweh abhors (CM)the man of bloodshed and deceit.
7 But as for me, (CN)in the abundance of Your lovingkindness I will enter Your house,
[an]At Your holy temple I will (CO)worship in (CP)fear of You.
8 O Yahweh, (CQ)lead me (CR)in Your righteousness (CS)because of [ao]my foes;
Make Your way [ap]straight before me.
9 There is (CT)nothing [aq]reliable in their mouth;
Their (CU)inward part is destruction itself.
Their (CV)throat is an open grave;
They [ar]flatter with their tongue.
10 Hold them guilty, O God;
(CW)By their own devices let them fall!
In the abundance of their transgressions (CX)thrust them out,
For they are (CY)rebellious against You.
11 But let all who (CZ)take refuge in You (DA)be glad,
Let them ever sing for joy;
And [as]may You (DB)shelter them,
That those who (DC)love Your name may exult in You.
12 For it is You who (DD)blesses the righteous one, O Yahweh,
You (DE)surround him with favor as with a large shield.
Yahweh, Rescue My Soul
For the choir director. With stringed instruments. According to the [at]Sheminith. A Psalm of David.
6 O Yahweh, (DF)do not reprove me in Your anger,
Nor discipline me in Your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am (DG)pining away;
(DH)Heal me, O Yahweh, for (DI)my bones are dismayed.
3 And my (DJ)soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O Yahweh—(DK)how long?
4 Return, O Yahweh, (DL)rescue my [au]soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
5 For (DM)there is no remembrance of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?
6 I am (DN)weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I flood my couch with (DO)my tears.
7 My (DP)eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.
8 (DQ)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,
For Yahweh (DR)has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 Yahweh (DS)has heard my supplication,
Yahweh (DT)receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will (DU)be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
They shall [av]turn back, they will (DV)suddenly be ashamed.
In You I Have Taken Refuge
A [aw]Shiggaion of David, which he sang to Yahweh concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite.
7 O Yahweh my God, (DW)in You I have taken refuge;
Save me from all those who pursue me, and (DX)deliver me,
2 Lest he tear [ax]my soul (DY)like a lion,
Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
3 O Yahweh my God, if I have done this,
If there is (DZ)injustice in my hands,
4 If I have (EA)rewarded evil to him who [ay]is at peace with me,
Or have (EB)plundered my adversary without cause,
5 Let the enemy pursue [az]my soul and overtake [ba]it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And cause my glory to dwell in the dust. [bb]Selah.
6 (EC)Arise, O Yahweh, in Your anger;
(ED)Lift up Yourself against (EE)the fury of my adversaries,
And (EF)arouse Yourself [bc]for me; You have appointed judgment.
7 Let the congregation of the (EG)peoples encompass You,
And over [bd]them return on high.
8 Yahweh (EH)judges the peoples;
[be](EI)Give justice to me, O Yahweh, according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
9 O let (EJ)the evil of the wicked come to an end, but (EK)establish the righteous;
For the righteous God (EL)tests the hearts and [bf]minds.
10 My (EM)shield is [bg]with God,
Who (EN)saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a (EO)righteous judge,
And a God who has (EP)indignation every day.
12 If [bh]a man (EQ)does not repent, He will (ER)sharpen His sword;
He has (ES)bent His bow and prepared it.
13 He has also prepared [bi]for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His (ET)arrows fiery shafts.
14 Behold, he travails with wickedness,
And he (EU)conceives mischief and gives birth to falsehood.
15 He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
And has (EV)fallen into the hole which he made.
16 His (EW)mischief will return upon his own head,
And his (EX)violence will descend upon [bj]his own skull.
17 I will give thanks to Yahweh (EY)according to His righteousness
And will (EZ)sing praise to the name of Yahweh Most High.
How Majestic Is Your Name
For the choir director. According to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.
8 O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who [bk](FA)displays Your splendor above the heavens!
2 (FB)From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have established [bl](FC)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (FD)the enemy and the revengeful cease.
3 When I (FE)see (FF)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (FG)moon and the stars, which You have established;
4 (FH)What is man that You remember him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a (FI)little lower than the [bm]angels,
And (FJ)You crown him with (FK)glory and majesty!
6 You make him to (FL)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (FM)put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
9 (FN)O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
