Daily Reading for Personal Growth, 40 Days with God
17 But whoever has the world’s possessions[a] and sees his fellow Christian[b] in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can the love of God[c] reside[d] in such a person?[e]
18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth.[f] 19 And by this[g] we will know that we are of the truth and will convince[h] our conscience[i] in his presence,[j] 20 that[k] if our conscience condemns[l] us, that[m] God is greater than our conscience and knows all things. 21 Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God, 22 and[n] whatever we ask we receive from him, because[o] we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing to him. 23 Now[p] this is his commandment:[q] that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he gave[r] us the commandment. 24 And the person who keeps his commandments resides[s] in God,[t] and God[u] in him. Now by this[v] we know that God[w] resides in us: by the Spirit he has given us.
