14 “‘And if a man consecrates his house as a holy object for Yahweh, then[a] the priest shall set a value on it, either good or bad;[b] just as the priest sets a value on it, so it shall remain. 15 But[c] if the one who consecrates it wants to redeem his house, then[d] he shall add a fifth of your proper value’s money onto it, and it shall be his.
16 “‘And if a man consecrates some of[e] his property’s fields[f] for Yahweh, then[g] your proper value shall be in accordance with its seed requirements:[h] a homer of barley seed for fifty shekels of money. 17 If he consecrates his field from the Year of Jubilee, it shall stand as your proper value. 18 But[i] if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, then[j] the priest shall calculate the money for him according to the number of years[k] that are left over until the Year of Jubilee; and it shall be deducted from your proper value. 19 And if he indeed redeems the field that is consecrated, then[l] he shall add a fifth of your proper value’s money onto it, and it shall stand for[m] him. 20 And if he does not redeem the field and if he sells the field to another man, it may not be redeemed again, 21 and the field shall be a holy object for Yahweh when it goes out[n] in the Jubilee, like a devoted[o] field; it shall be the priest’s property.[p]
22 “‘And if he consecrates for Yahweh his acquired[q] field that is not the field of his inherited possession, 23 then[r] the priest shall calculate for him the amount[s] of your proper value until the year of the Jubilee, and he shall give your proper value on that day as a holy object for Yahweh. 24 In the Year of the Jubilee the field shall return to the one who bought it from him, to the one whose property the land is. 25 And every proper value of yours shall be in the sanctuary’s shekel—the shekel shall be twenty gerahs.
26 “‘However, a man shall not consecrate a firstborn among livestock, which belongs as firstborn to Yahweh; whether an ox or[t] small livestock, it is for Yahweh. 27 And if it is among the unclean animals, then[u] he shall ransom it according to your proper value, and he shall add a fifth of its value onto it; and if it is not redeemed, then[v] it shall be sold according to your proper value. 28 However, anything devoted[w] that a man has devoted to Yahweh from all that he has,[x] from human or[y] animal, or[z] from the field of his property, may not be sold, and it may not be redeemed; anything devoted is a most holy thing[aa] for Yahweh. 29 Anyone devoted who is devoted from human beings[ab] cannot be ransomed—he shall surely be put to death.
30 “‘And any tithe of the land from the land’s seed or from the fruit of the trees is for Yahweh; it is a holy object for Yahweh. 31 And if a man indeed redeems from his tithe, he shall add a fifth of its value onto it. 32 As for[ac] every tithe of cattle or[ad] of the flock,[ae] all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh. 33 He shall not inspect between the good and the bad, and he shall not exchange it; but[af] if he indeed exchanges it, then[ag] it and its substitution shall be[ah] a holy object—it shall not be redeemed.’”
34 These are the commands that Yahweh commanded Moses for the Israelites[ai] on Mount Sinai.[aj]
God Commands Moses to Take a Census
1 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, in the tent of assembly, on the first of the month, in the second year after they came out[ak] of the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “Take a census of[al] the entire community of the Israelites[am] according to their clans and their families,[an] according to the number of names, every male individually 3 from twenty years old[ao] and above, everyone in Israel who is able to go to war. You and Aaron must muster them[ap] for their wars. 4 A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of his family.[aq] 5 And these are the names of the men who will assist you:[ar] from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; 6 from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; 7 from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; 8 from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; 9 from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon. 10 From the descendants of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. 11 From Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; 12 from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; 13 from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran; 14 from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; 15 and from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.” 16 These are the ones summoned from the community, the leaders of their ancestors’[as] tribes; they are the heads of Israel’s clans.
17 So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name, 18 and they summoned the entire community on the first day of the second month. And they registered themselves among their clans according to their families,[at] according to the number of names from those twenty years old[au] and above individually, 19 just as Yahweh commanded Moses. And he counted them in the desert of Sinai.
20 The descendants of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[av] according to the number of names, every male individually from twenty years old[aw] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 21 those who were counted from the tribe of Reuben were forty-six thousand five hundred.
22 From the descendants of Simeon, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[ax] those who were counted according to the number of their names, every individual male from twenty years old[ay] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 23 those who were counted from the tribe of Simeon were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.
24 From the descendants of Gad, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[az] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[ba] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 25 those who were counted from the tribe of Gad were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
26 From the descendants of Judah, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bb] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bc] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 27 those who were counted from the tribe of Judah were seventy-four thousand six hundred.
28 From the descendants of Issachar, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bd] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[be] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 29 those who were counted from the tribe of Issachar were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
30 From the descendants of Zebulun, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bf] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bg] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 31 those who were counted from the tribe of Zebulun were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.
32 From the descendants of Joseph: from the descendants of Ephraim, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bh] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bi] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 33 those who were counted from the tribe of Ephraim were forty thousand five hundred.
34 From the descendants of Manasseh, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bj] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bk] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 35 those who were counted from the tribe of Manasseh were thirty-two thousand two hundred.
36 From the descendants of Benjamin, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bl] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bm] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 37 those who were counted from the tribe of Benjamin were thirty-five thousand four hundred.
38 From the descendants of Dan, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bn] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bo] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 39 those who were counted from the tribe of Dan were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.
40 From the descendants of Asher, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[bp] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bq] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 41 those who were counted from the tribe of Asher were forty-one thousand five hundred.
42 From the descendants of Naphtali, their genealogies according to their clans, according to their families,[br] according to the number of names, from those twenty years old[bs] and above, everyone who is able to go to war: 43 those who were counted from the tribe of Naphtali were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44 These are the ones counted whom Moses and Aaron mustered,[bt] with the twelve leaders of Israel, each one from his family.[bu] 45 So all those who were counted from the Israelites[bv] according to their families,[bw] from those twenty years old[bx] and above, everyone in Israel who is able to go to war. 46 All of the ones counted were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty. 47 The Levites from their ancestors’[by] tribe were not mustered[bz] in their midst.
48 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 49 “You will not muster[ca] the tribe of Levi, and you will not take a census of[cb] them in the midst of the Israelites.[cc] 50 You will appoint[cd] them over the tabernacle of the testimony,[ce] over all its vessels, and over all that belongs to it. They will carry the tabernacle and all its vessels, and they will care for it; and they will camp around the tabernacle. 51 And when the tabernacle is set out, the Levites will take it down,[cf] and when encamping the tabernacle the Levites will set it up; the stranger[cg] that approaches it will be put to death. 52 The Israelites[ch] will encamp, each in their own camp, and each by their[ci] own banner according to their divisions. 53 But the Levites will encamp around the tabernacle of the testimony,[cj] and there will not be wrath on the community of the Israelites;[ck] and the Levites will keep the requirements of the tabernacle of the testimony.”[cl] 54 And the Israelites[cm] did thus; they did everything that Yahweh commanded Moses.
The Triumphal Entry
11 And when they came near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village before you, and right away as you[a] enter into it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.[b] 3 And if anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say[c] ‘The Lord has need of it, and will send it here again at once.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 So they told them, just as Jesus had said, and they allowed them to take it.[d] 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, and he sat on it. 8 And many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread[e] leafy branches they[f] had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went ahead and those who were following were shouting,
“Hosanna!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord![g]
10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”[h]
11 And he went into Jerusalem to the temple, and after[i] looking around at everything, because[j] the hour was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
A Barren Fig Tree Cursed
12 And on the next day as[k] they were departing from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And when he[l] saw from a distance a fig tree that had leaves, he went to see if perhaps he would find anything on it. And when he[m] came up to it he found nothing except leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 And he responded and[n] said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you any more forever!”[o] And his disciples heard it.[p]
The Cleansing of the Temple
15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered into the temple courts[q] and[r] began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple courts,[s] and overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling doves. 16 And he did not permit anyone to carry objects[t] through the temple courts.[u] 17 And he began to teach[v] and was saying to them, “Is it not written,
‘My house will be called a house of prayer
for all the nations,’[w]
but you have made it a cave of robbers!” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it,[x] and began considering[y] how they could destroy him. For they were afraid of him because the whole crowd was astounded by his teaching. 19 And when evening came they went out of the city.
The Barren Fig Tree Withered
20 And as they[z] passed by early in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21 And Peter remembered and[aa] said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered!” 22 And Jesus answered and[ab] said to them, “Have faith in God! 23 Truly I say to you that whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 For this reason I say to you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it,[ac] and it will be done for you. 25 And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him,[ad] so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your sins.”[ae]
God Provides for and Protects His People
For the music director. Of the sons of Korah.
According to Alamoth. A song.[a]
46 God is our refuge and strength,
a very sufficient help in troubles.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth change,
and though the mountains totter into the midst[b] of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though mountains shake with its surging water. Selah
4 There is a river whose streams gladden the city of God,
the holiest of the dwellings of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her;
she will not be made to totter.
God will help her at daybreak.[c]
6 Nations roar, kingdoms shake;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 Yahweh of hosts is with us;
our high stronghold is the God of Jacob. Selah
8 Come, see the works of Yahweh,
who has placed desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and cuts off the spear.
The wagons of war he burns with fire.
10 Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations;
I will be exalted in the earth.
11 Yahweh of Hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our high stronghold.
23 It is like a sport for a fool to do wrong,
wisdom for a person of understanding.
