19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the Lord brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21 And Miriam answered them: “Sing ye to the Lord, for He hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath He thrown into the sea!”
22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the Wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah [that is, Bitterness].
24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”
25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there He put them to the proof,
26 and said, “If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord that healeth thee.”
27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water and threescore and ten palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
16 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, “Would to God we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the fleshpots and when we ate bread to the full! For ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
4 Then said the Lord unto Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may put them to the proof, whether they will walk in My law, or no.
5 And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”
6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, “At evening, then ye shall know that the Lord hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;
7 and in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the Lord, for He heareth your murmurings against the Lord. And what are we, that ye murmur against us?”
8 And Moses said, “This shall be when the Lord shall give you in the evening flesh to eat and in the morning bread to the full, for the Lord heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against Him. And what are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against the Lord.”
9 And Moses spoke unto Aaron, “Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come near before the Lord, for He hath heard your murmurings.’”
10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.
11 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
12 “I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak unto them, saying, ‘At evening ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God.’”
13 And it came to pass that at evening the quails came up and covered the camp, and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14 And when the dew that lay had gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoarfrost on the ground.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is this?” For they knew not what it was. And Moses said unto them, “This is the bread which the Lord hath given you to eat.
16 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded: ‘Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons. Take ye every man for those who are in his tents.’”
17 And the children of Israel did so and gathered, some more, some less.
18 And when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
19 And Moses said, “Let no man leave any of it until the morning.”
20 Notwithstanding, they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left part of it until the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was wroth with them.
21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
22 And it came to pass that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man; and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
23 And he said unto them, “This is that which the Lord hath said: ‘Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the Lord. Bake that which ye will bake today, and boil what ye will boil; and that which remaineth over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’”
24 And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses bade; and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
25 And Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath unto the Lord. Today ye shall not find it in the field.
26 Six days ye shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, in it there shall be none.”
27 And it came to pass that there went out some of the people on the seventh day to gather, and they found none.
28 And the Lord said unto Moses, “How long refuse ye to keep My commandments and My laws?
29 See, for the Lord hath given you the Sabbath; therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread for two days. Abide ye every man in his place. Let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.”
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof manna; and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
32 And Moses said, “This is the thing which the Lord commandeth: ‘Fill an omer with it to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.’”
33 And Moses said unto Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the Lord to be kept for your generations.”
34 As the Lord commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the testimony, to be kept.
35 And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited. They ate manna until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 Now an omer is a tenth part of an ephah.
17 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the Wilderness of Sin after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched camp in Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Therefore the people chided Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.” And Moses said unto them, “Why chide ye me? Why do ye tempt the Lord?”
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses and said, “Why is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?”
4 And Moses cried unto the Lord, saying, “What shall I do unto this people? They are almost ready to stone me!”
5 And the Lord said unto Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod with which thou smotest the river, take in thine hand and go.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah [that is, Temptation], and Meribah [that is, Chiding], because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
22 And Jesus answered and spoke unto them again in parables and said,
2 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a certain king, who made a marriage for his son.
3 And he sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding, and they would not come.
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, ‘Tell them that are bidden, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come unto the marriage.”’
5 But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise,
6 and the remnant took his servants and treated them spitefully and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof he was wroth, and he sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.
8 Then said he to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.’
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered all together as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on a wedding garment.
12 And he said unto him, ‘Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”
15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His talk.
16 And they sent out unto Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Master, we know that thou art true and teachest the way of God in truth; neither carest thou for any man, for thou regardest not the person of men.
17 Tell us therefore, what thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?”
18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, “Why tempt ye Me, ye hypocrites?
19 Show Me the tribute money.” And they brought unto Him a penny.
20 And He said unto them, “Whose is this image and superscription?”
21 And they said unto Him, “Caesar’s.” Then said He unto them, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.”
22 When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left Him and went their way.
23 The same day the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,
24 saying, “Master, Moses said, ‘If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.’
25 Now there were with us seven brethren. And the first, when he had married a wife, died; and having no issue, he left his wife unto his brother.
26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
27 And last of all, the woman died also.
28 Therefore in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven? For they all had her.”
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, “Ye do err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in Heaven.
31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
33 And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at His doctrine.
27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, even in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord; that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.
5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret places of His tabernacle shall He hide me; He shall set me upon a rock.
6 And then shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me; therefore I will offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.
22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life
24 to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought down to a piece of bread, and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
