23 The Word of the LORD came again to me, saying:
2 “Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother.
3 “And they committed fornication in Egypt. They committed fornication in their youth. There, their breasts were pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity.
4 “And their names were Oholah (the elder) and Oholibah, her sister. And they were Mine. And they bore sons and daughters. These were their names: Samaria is Oholah and Jerusalem, Oholibah.
5 “And Oholah played the harlot when she was Mine. And she was set on fire with her lovers, with the Assyrians, her neighbors,
6 “who were clothed with blue silk, captains and princes. They were all pleasant young men, horsemen riding upon horses.
7 “Thus she committed her whoredom with them, with all of the chosen men of Assyria and with all after whom she lusted, defiling herself with all their idols.
8 “Nor has she left her fornications from the Egyptians. For in her youth, they lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity and poured their whoredom upon her.
9 “Therefore, I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.
10 “They uncovered her shame. They took away her sons and her daughters and killed her with the sword. And she became infamous among women, for they had executed judgment upon her.
11 “And when her sister Oholibah saw this, she corrupted herself with lust more than she, and with her fornications more than her sister’s fornications.
12 “She lusted after the Assyrians her neighbors, captains and princes clothed with diverse suits, horsemen riding upon horses. They were all pleasant young men.
13 “Then I saw that she was defiled, that they were both in the same way,
14 “and that she increased her fornications. For when she saw men painted upon the wall—the images of the Chaldeans painted with vermilion
15 “and girded with girdles upon their loins, and with dyed attire upon their heads (all looking like princes, after the manner of the Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their nativity) —
16 “as soon, I say, as she saw them, she lusted after them, and sent messengers to them, into Chaldea.
17 “Now, when the Babylonians came to her, into the bed of love, they defiled her with their fornication. And she was polluted with them. And her lust departed from them.
18 “So she discovered her fornication and disclosed her shame. Then My Heart forsook her, just as My Heart had forsaken her sister.
19 “Still, she increased her whoredom more and called to remembrance the days of her youth in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.
20 “For she lusted after their servants whose members are as the members of donkeys, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.
21 “You call to remembrance the wickedness of your youth, when your teats were bruised by the Egyptians. Therefore, the paps of your youth are thus.”
22 Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom your heart has departed. And I will bring them against you from every direction—
23 “the Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them. They were all pleasant young men, captains and princes. All of them were valiant and renowned, riding upon horses.
24 “Even they shall come against you with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with a multitude of people, who shall set against you buckler and shield and helmet, all around. And I will leave the punishment to them, and they shall judge you according to their judgments.
25 “And I will lay My indignation upon you, and they shall deal cruelly with you. They shall cut off your nose and your ears. And your remnant shall fall by the sword. They shall carry away your sons and your daughters. And the rest of you shall be devoured by the fire.
26 “They shall also strip you out of your clothes and take away your fair jewels.
27 “Thus I will make your wickedness cease from you, and your fornication, out of the land of Egypt, so that you shall not lift up your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.”
28 For thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I will deliver you into the hand of those whom you hate, into the hands of those from whom your heart has departed.
29 “And they shall handle you hatefully, and shall take away all your property, and shall leave you naked and bare. And the shame of your fornications shall be uncovered, both your wickedness and your whoredom.
30 “I will do these things to you because you have gone whoring after the heathen, because you have been defiled with their idols.
31 “You have walked in the way of your sister. Therefore, I will put her cup into your hand.”
32 Thus says the Lord GOD: “You shall drink of your sister’s cup, deep and large. You shall be laughed to scorn and had in derision, because it contains much.
33 “You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of destruction and desolation, with the cup of your sister, Samaria.
34 “You shall drink it and wring it out, and you shall break its shards and tear your own breasts, for I have spoken it,” says the Lord GOD.
35 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “Because you have forgotten Me, and cast Me behind your back, therefore you shall also bear your wickedness and your whoredom.”
36 Moreover, the LORD said to me: “Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? And will you declare their abominations to them?
37 “For they have played the whores, and blood is on their hands. And they have committed adultery with their idols and have also caused their sons, whom they bore to Me, to pass through the fire to be its food.
38 “Moreover, they have done this to Me: They have defiled My Sanctuary and have profaned My Sabbaths on the same day.
39 “For after they had slain their children to their idols, they came into My Sanctuary on the same day to defile it. And lo, thus have they done in the midst of My House.
40 “Furthermore, they sent for men to come from afar, to whom a messenger was sent. And lo, they came. And you washed yourself and painted your eyes and adorned yourself with ornaments for them,
41 “and sat upon a costly bed (with a table prepared before it), upon which you have set My incense and My oil.
42 “And a voice of a carefree multitude was with her. And men of Saba (from the wilderness) were brought with the men, to make the company great, who put bracelets upon their hands and beautiful crowns upon their heads.
43 “Then I said to her who was old in adulteries, ‘Now she and her fornications shall come to an end.’
44 “And they went in to her. As they go to a common harlot, so went they to Oholah and Oholibah, the wicked women.
45 “And the righteous men shall judge them the same as harlots and the same as murderers. For they are harlots, and blood is on their hands.”
46 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “I will bring a multitude upon them and will give them to the tumult and to the spoil.
47 “And the multitude shall stone them with stones and cut them with their swords. They shall slay their sons and their daughters and burn up their houses with fire.
48 “Thus I will cause wickedness to cease from the land, so that all women may be taught not to practice your wickedness.
49 “And they shall lay your wickedness upon you. And you shall bear the sins of your idols. And you shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”
18 Now where there is remission of these things, there is no more offering for sin.
19 Seeing therefore, brothers, that by the blood of Jesus we may be bold to enter into the Holy Place,
20 By the new and living way through the veil, which He has prepared for us (that is, His flesh).
21 And seeing we have a High Priest over the house of God,
22 let us draw near with a true heart, in assurance of faith; our hearts being sprinkled clean from an evil conscience
23 and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us keep the profession of our hope without wavering. For He Who promised is faithful.
24 And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and to good works,
25 not forsaking the fellowship that we have among ourselves (as is the manner of some). But let us exhort one another, and so much more so because you see that the Day draws near.
26 For if we sin willingly after we have received and acknowledged the Truth, sacrifice for sins no longer remains;
27 but rather a fearful expectation of judgment and violent fire, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 Anyone who ignores Moses’ Law dies without mercy upon two or three witnesses.
29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, shall he be worthy who treads the Son of God under foot, and counts the blood of the Testament (with which he was sanctified) as an unholy thing, insulting the Spirit of Grace?
30 For we know Him Who has said, “Vengeance belongs to Me. I will repay,” says the Lord. And again, “The Lord shall judge His people.”
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Now call to remembrance the days that are passed in which - after you had received light - you endured a great fight in afflictions;
33 partly while you were made a spectacle by both reproaches and afflictions and partly while you became companions of those who were so tossed to and fro.
34 For you sorrowed with me for my bonds; and also joyfully suffered the plundering of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have a better and an enduring substance in Heaven.
35 Therefore, do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.
36 For you need patience, so that after you have done the will of God you might receive the promise.
37 For yet a very little while and He Who shall come, will come, and will not wait.
38 For “The just shall live by faith. But if anyone withdraws himself, My soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
39 However, we are not those who withdraw into destruction, but those who follow faith to the preservation of the soul.
109 Do not hold Your tongue, O God of my praise.
2 For the mouth of the wicked, and the mouth of deceit, are opened upon me. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue.
3 They also surrounded me, with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.
4 In return for my friendship they were my adversaries; but I gave myself to prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my friendship.
6 Set the wicked over him; and let the adversary stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned; and let his prayer be turned into sin.
8 Let his days be few and let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
10 Let his children be vagabonds, and beg and seek bread, coming out of their places destroyed.
11 Let the creditor seize all that he has, and let the strangers plunder his labor.
12 Let there be no one to extend mercy to him, nor let there be any to show mercy upon his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be destroyed. In the generation following, let their name be put out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be held in remembrance by the LORD. And do not let the sin of his mother be wiped out.
15 Let them always be before the LORD, so that He may cut off their memorial from the Earth.
16 Because he did not remember to show mercy (but persecuted the afflicted and poor man, and the sorrowful-hearted, to kill him),
17 as he loved cursing, so shall it come to him. And as he did not love blessing, so shall it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing like a garment, so shall it come into his core like water and like oil into his bones.
19 Let it be to him as a garment to cover him, and for a girdle with which he shall always be girded.
20 Let this be the reward from the LORD to my adversary, and to those who speak evil against my soul.
21 But You, O LORD my God, deal with me according to Your Name. Deliver me (for Your mercy is good).
22 Because I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I depart like the shadow that declines and am shaken off as the grasshopper.
24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh has lost fatness.
25 I also became a rebuke to them. Those who looked upon me shook their heads.
26 Help me, O LORD my God! Save me according to Your mercy.
27 And they shall know that this is Your hand and that You, LORD, have done it.
28 They curse. Yet You will bless. They shall arise and be confounded; but Your servant shall rejoice.
29 Let my adversaries be clothed with shame; and let them cover themselves with their confusion, as with a cloak.
30 I will give great thanks to the LORD with my mouth and praise Him among the multitude.
31 For He will stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who would condemn his soul. A Psalm of David
13 Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger; and a pledge of him for a strange woman.
