New American Standard Bible (NASB)
Version
Deuteronomy 32:28-52

28 (A)For they are a nation [a]destitute of counsel,
And there is no understanding in them.
29 (B)If only they were wise and they understood this;
(C)If only they would discern their [b]future!
30 (D)How could one chase a thousand,
And two put ten thousand to flight,
Unless their (E)Rock had sold them,
And the Lord had given them up?
31 Indeed, their rock is not like our Rock;
(F)Even our enemies [c]themselves judge this.
32 For their vine is from the vine of Sodom,
And from the fields of Gomorrah;
Their grapes are grapes of (G)poison,
Their clusters, bitter.
33 Their wine is the venom of [d]serpents,
And the [e]deadly poison of vipers.

34 (H)Is it not stored up with Me,
Sealed up in My treasuries?
35 (I)Vengeance is Mine, and retribution;
(J)In due time their foot will slip.
(K)For the day of their disaster is near,
And the impending things are hurrying to them.’
36 (L)For the Lord will vindicate His people,
(M)And will have compassion on His servants,
When He sees that their [f]strength is gone,
And there is none remaining, bond or free.
37 And He will say, ‘(N)Where are their gods,
The rock in which they took refuge?
38 (O)Those who ate the fat of their sacrifices,
And drank the wine of their drink offering?
(P)Let them rise up and help you,
Let them be your protection!
39 (Q)See now that I, I am He,
(R)And there is no god besides Me;
(S)It is I who put to death and give life.
(T)I have wounded and it is I who heal,
(U)And there is no one who can save anyone from My hand.
40 Indeed, (V)I raise My hand to heaven,
And say, as I live forever,
41 (W)If I have sharpened [g]My flashing sword,
And My hand has taken hold of justice,
(X)I will return vengeance on My adversaries,
And I will repay those who hate Me.
42 (Y)I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
(Z)And My sword will devour flesh,
With the blood of the slain and the captives,
From the long-haired [h]leaders of the enemy.’
43 (AA)Rejoice, you nations, with His people;
(AB)For He will avenge the blood of His servants,
(AC)And will return vengeance on His adversaries,
(AD)And will atone for His land and His people.”

44 Then Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people, he, with [i](AE)Joshua the son of Nun. 45 When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them, “(AF)Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you will command (AG)your sons to [j]follow carefully, all the words of this Law. 47 For it is not a [k]trivial matter for you; indeed (AH)it is your life. And (AI)by this word you will prolong your days in the land, [l]which you are about to cross the Jordan to [m]possess.”

48 Now (AJ)the Lord spoke to Moses that very same day, saying, 49 (AK)Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab [n]opposite Jericho, and look at the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel as a possession. 50 Then you are to die on the mountain where you ascend, and be (AL)gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, 51 (AM)because you broke faith with Me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the (AN)wilderness of Zin, because you did not treat Me as holy in the midst of the sons of Israel. 52 (AO)For you will see the land at a distance but (AP)you will not go there, into the land which I am giving the sons of Israel.”

Luke 12:35-59

Be in Readiness

35 [a](A)Be prepared, and keep your (B)lamps lit. 36 You are also to be like people who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door for him when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find (C)on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that (D)he will [b]prepare himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and he will come up and serve them. 38 (E)Whether he comes in the [c]second watch, or even in the [d]third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 (F)But [e]be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be (G)broken into. 40 (H)You too, be ready; because the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not think He will.”

41 Peter said, “Lord, are You telling this parable to us, or (I)to everyone else as well?” 42 And (J)the Lord said, (K)Who then is the faithful and sensible (L)steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that (M)slave whom his [f]master finds so doing when he comes. 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will take a long time to come,’ and he begins to beat the other slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; 46 then the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know, and will [g]cut him in two, and assign [h]him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accordance with his will, will (N)receive many blows, 48 but the one who did not (O)know it, and committed acts deserving of [i]a beating, will receive only a few blows. (P)From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

Christ Divides People

49 “I [j]have come to cast fire upon the earth; and [k]how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a (Q)baptism [l]to undergo, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! 51 (R)Do you think that I came to provide peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; 52 for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, (S)father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

54 And He was also saying to the crowds, (T)Whenever you see a cloud rising [m]in the west, you immediately say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. 55 And whenever you feel a [n]south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a (U)hot day,’ and it turns out that way. 56 You hypocrites! (V)You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how is it that you do not know how to analyze this present time?

57 “And (W)why do you not even judge by yourselves what is right? 58 For (X)when you are going with your accuser to appear before the magistrate, on the way, make an effort to [o]settle with him, so that he does not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59 I tell you, you will not get out of there until you have paid up [p]the very last [q](Y)lepton.”

Psalm 78:56-64

56 Yet they [a](A)tempted and (B)rebelled against the Most High God
And did not keep His testimonies,
57 But turned back and (C)acted treacherously like their fathers;
They (D)turned aside like a treacherous bow.
58 For they (E)provoked Him with their (F)high places
And (G)moved Him to jealousy with their (H)carved images.
59 When God heard them, He [b]was filled with (I)wrath
And He utterly (J)rejected Israel;
60 So that He (K)abandoned the (L)dwelling place at Shiloh,
The tent [c]which He had pitched among people,
61 And He gave up His (M)strength to captivity
And His glory (N)into the hand of the enemy.
62 He also (O)turned His people over to the sword,
And [d]was filled with wrath at His inheritance.
63 (P)Fire devoured [e]His young men,
And [f]His (Q)virgins had no wedding songs.
64 [g]His (R)priests fell by the sword,
And [h]His (S)widows could not weep.

Proverbs 12:24

24 The hand of the diligent will rule,
But the [a]lazy hand will be (A)put to forced labor.
