English Standard Version (ESV)
Version
Leviticus 9:7-10:20

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Draw near to the altar and (A)offer your sin offering and your burnt offering and (B)make atonement for yourself and for the people, and bring the offering of the people and make atonement for them, as the Lord has commanded.”

So Aaron drew near to the altar and killed the calf of the sin offering, which was for himself. (C)And the sons of Aaron presented the blood to him, and he dipped his finger in the blood and (D)put it on the horns of the altar and poured out the blood at the base of the altar. 10 (E)But the fat and the kidneys and the long lobe of the liver from the sin offering he burned on the altar, (F)as the Lord commanded Moses. 11 (G)The flesh and the skin he burned up with fire outside the camp.

12 Then he killed the burnt offering, and Aaron's sons handed him the blood, and he (H)threw it against the sides of the altar. 13 (I)And they handed the burnt offering to him, piece by piece, and the head, and he burned them on the altar. 14 (J)And he washed the entrails and the legs and burned them with the burnt offering on the altar.

15 (K)Then he presented the people's offering and took the goat of the sin offering that was for the people and killed it and (L)offered it as a sin offering, (M)like the first one. 16 And he presented the burnt offering and offered it (N)according to the (O)rule. 17 And he presented the (P)grain offering, took a handful of it, and burned it on the altar, (Q)besides the burnt offering of the morning.

18 Then he killed the ox and the ram, (R)the sacrifice of peace offerings for the people. And Aaron's sons handed him the blood, and he threw it against the sides of the altar. 19 But the fat pieces of the ox and of the ram, the fat tail and that which covers (S)the entrails and the kidneys and the long lobe of the liver— 20 they put the fat pieces on the breasts, (T)and he burned the fat pieces on the altar, 21 but the breasts and the right thigh Aaron waved (U)for a wave offering before the Lord, as Moses commanded.

22 Then Aaron (V)lifted up his hands toward the people and (W)blessed them, and he came down from offering the sin offering and the burnt offering and the peace offerings. 23 And Moses and Aaron went into the tent of meeting, and when they came out they blessed the people, and (X)the glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. 24 And (Y)fire came out from before the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the pieces of fat on the altar, and when all the people saw it, (Z)they shouted and (AA)fell on their faces.

The Death of Nadab and Abihu

10 Now (AB)Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, (AC)each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered (AD)unauthorized[a] fire before the Lord, which he had not commanded them. And fire (AE)came out from before the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord has said: ‘Among (AF)those who are near me (AG)I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” (AH)And Aaron held his peace.

And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of (AI)Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Come near; carry your brothers away from the front of the sanctuary and out of the camp.” So they came near and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Moses had said. And Moses said to Aaron and to Eleazar and Ithamar his sons, (AJ)“Do not let the hair of your heads hang loose, and do not tear your clothes, lest you die, and (AK)wrath come upon all the congregation; but let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning that the Lord has kindled. (AL)And do not go outside the entrance of the tent of meeting, lest you die, (AM)for the anointing oil of the Lord is upon you.” And they did according to the word of Moses.

And the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying, (AN)“Drink no wine or strong drink, you or your sons with you, when you go into the tent of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations. 10 You are to (AO)distinguish between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean, 11 and (AP)you are to teach the people of Israel all the statutes that the Lord has spoken to them by Moses.”

12 Moses spoke to Aaron and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his surviving sons: “Take the (AQ)grain offering that is left of the Lord's food offerings, and eat it unleavened beside the altar, for (AR)it is most holy. 13 You shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your due and your sons' due, from the Lord's food offerings, for (AS)so I am commanded. 14 But the (AT)breast that is waved and the thigh that is contributed you shall eat in a clean place, you and your sons and your daughters with you, for they are given as your due and your sons' due from the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the people of Israel. 15 (AU)The thigh that is contributed and the breast that is waved they shall bring with the food offerings of the fat pieces to wave for a wave offering before the Lord, and it shall be yours and your sons' with you as a due forever, as the Lord has commanded.”

16 Now Moses diligently inquired about (AV)the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it was burned up! And he was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, the surviving sons of Aaron, saying, 17 (AW)“Why have you not eaten the sin offering in the place of the sanctuary, since (AX)it is a thing most holy and has been given to you that you may bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before the Lord? 18 Behold, (AY)its blood was not brought into the inner part of the sanctuary. You certainly ought to have eaten it in the sanctuary, (AZ)as I commanded.” 19 And Aaron said to Moses, “Behold, (BA)today they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord, and yet such things as these have happened to me! If I had eaten the sin offering today, (BB)would the Lord have approved?” 20 And when Moses heard that, he approved.

Mark 4:26-5:20

The Parable of the Seed Growing

26 And he said, (A)“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. 27 He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; (B)he knows not how. 28 The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 But when the grain is ripe, at once (C)he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

30 (D)And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like (E)a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”

33 (F)With many such parables he spoke (G)the word to them, (H)as they were able to hear it. 34 He did not speak to them (I)without a parable, but (J)privately to his own disciples he (K)explained everything.

Jesus Calms a Storm

35 (L)On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves (M)were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and (N)rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and (O)there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you (P)so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, (Q)“Who then is this, that even (R)the wind and the sea obey him?”

Jesus Heals a Man with a Demon

(S)They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes.[a] And when Jesus[b] had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. (T)He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and (U)fell down before him. And (V)crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, (W)Son of (X)the Most High God? (Y)I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is (Z)Legion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11 Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, 12 and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” 13 So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea.

14 The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed[c] man, the one who had had (AA)the legion, sitting there, (AB)clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 16 And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. 17 And (AC)they began to beg Jesus[d] to depart from their region. 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and (AD)tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in (AE)the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.

Psalm 37:30-40

30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
    and his tongue speaks justice.
31 (A)The law of his God is in his heart;
    his (B)steps do not slip.

32 The wicked (C)watches for the righteous
    and seeks to put him to death.
33 The Lord will not (D)abandon him to his power
    or let him (E)be condemned when he is brought to trial.

34 (F)Wait for the Lord and keep his way,
    and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
    you will look on (G)when the wicked are cut off.

35 (H)I have seen a wicked, ruthless man,
    spreading himself like (I)a green laurel tree.[a]
36 But he passed away,[b] and behold, (J)he was no more;
    though I sought him, he could not be found.

37 Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
    for there is a future for the man of (K)peace.
38 But (L)transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
    the future of the wicked (M)shall be cut off.

39 (N)The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;
    he is their stronghold in (O)the time of trouble.
40 The Lord helps them and (P)delivers them;
    (Q)he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
    because they (R)take refuge in him.

Proverbs 10:6-7

Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
    but (A)the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.[a]
(B)The memory of the righteous is a blessing,
    but (C)the name of the wicked will rot.
