New English Translation (NET)
Version
Exodus 35:10-36:38

10 Every skilled person[a] among you is to come and make all that the Lord has commanded: 11 the tabernacle with[b] its tent, its covering, its clasps, its frames, its crossbars, its posts, and its bases; 12 the ark, with its poles, the atonement lid, and the special curtain that conceals it; 13 the table with its poles and all its vessels, and the Bread of the Presence; 14 the lampstand for[c] the light and its accessories, its lamps, and oil for the light; 15 and the altar of incense with its poles, the anointing oil, and the fragrant incense; the hanging for the door at the entrance of the tabernacle; 16 the altar for the burnt offering with its bronze grating that is on it, its poles, and all its utensils; the large basin and its pedestal; 17 the hangings of the courtyard, its posts and its bases, and the curtain for the gateway to the courtyard; 18 tent pegs for the tabernacle and tent pegs for the courtyard and their ropes; 19 the woven garments for serving in the Holy Place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments for his sons to minister as priests.’”

20 So the whole community of the Israelites went out from the presence of Moses. 21 Everyone[d] whose heart stirred him to action[e] and everyone whose spirit was willing[f] came and brought the offering for the Lord for the work of the tent of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.[g] 22 They came, men and women alike,[h] all who had willing hearts. They brought brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments, all kinds of gold jewelry,[i] and everyone came who waved[j] a wave offering of gold to the Lord.

23 Everyone who had[k] blue, purple, or[l] scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats’ hair, ram skins dyed red, or fine leather[m] brought them.[n] 24 Everyone making an offering of silver or bronze brought it as[o] an offering to the Lord, and everyone who had acacia wood[p] for any work of the service brought it.[q] 25 Every woman who was skilled[r] spun with her hands and brought what she had spun, blue, purple, or scarlet yarn, or fine linen, 26 and all the women whose heart stirred them to action and who were skilled[s] spun goats’ hair.

27 The leaders brought onyx stones and other gems to be mounted[t] for the ephod and the breastpiece, 28 and spices and olive oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense.

29 The Israelites brought a freewill offering to the Lord, every man and woman whose heart was willing to bring materials for all the work that the Lord through[u] Moses had commanded them[v] to do.

30 Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen[w] Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 31 He has filled him with the Spirit of God—with skill, with understanding, with knowledge, and in all kinds of work— 32 to design artistic designs, to work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, 33 and in cutting stones for their setting,[x] and in cutting wood, to do work in every artistic craft.[y] 34 And he has put it in his heart[z] to teach, he and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. 35 He has filled them with skill[aa] to do all kinds of work[ab] as craftsmen, as designers, as embroiderers in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and in fine linen, and as weavers. They are[ac] craftsmen in all the work[ad] and artistic designers.[ae] 36 So Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person[af] in whom the Lord has put skill[ag] and ability[ah] to know how[ai] to do all the work for the service[aj] of the sanctuary are to do the work[ak] according to all that the Lord has commanded.”

Moses summoned[al] Bezalel and Oholiab and every skilled person in whom[am] the Lord had put skill—everyone whose heart stirred him[an] to volunteer[ao] to do the work. They received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to do[ap] the work for the service of the sanctuary, and they still continued to bring him a freewill offering each morning.[aq] So all the skilled people who were doing all the work on the sanctuary came from the work[ar] they were doing and told Moses, “The people are bringing much more than[as] is needed for the completion[at] of the work which the Lord commanded us to do!”[au]

Moses instructed them to take[av] his message[aw] throughout the camp, saying, “Let no man or woman do anymore work for the offering for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing any more.[ax] Now the materials were more than enough[ay] for them to do all the work.[az]

The Building of the Tabernacle

All the skilled among those who were doing the work made the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue and purple and scarlet yarn; they were made with cherubim that were the work of an artistic designer. The length of one curtain was 42 feet, and the width of one curtain was 6 feet—the same size for each of the curtains. 10 He joined[ba] five of the curtains to one another, and the other[bb] five curtains he joined to one another. 11 He made loops of blue material along the edge of the end curtain in the first set; he did the same along the edge of the end curtain in the second set. 12 He made fifty loops on the first curtain, and he made fifty loops on the end curtain that was in the second set, with the loops opposite one another. 13 He made fifty gold clasps and joined the curtains together to one another with the clasps, so that the tabernacle was a unit.[bc]

14 He made curtains of goats’ hair for a tent over the tabernacle; he made eleven curtains.[bd] 15 The length of one curtain was 45 feet, and the width of one curtain was 6 feet—one size for all eleven curtains. 16 He joined five curtains by themselves and six curtains by themselves. 17 He made fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain in the first set and fifty loops along the edge of the curtain that joined the second set. 18 He made fifty bronze clasps to join the tent together so that it might be a unit.[be] 19 He made a covering for the tent out of ram skins dyed red and over that a covering of fine leather.[bf]

20 He made the frames[bg] for the tabernacle of acacia wood[bh] as uprights.[bi] 21 The length of each[bj] frame was 15 feet, the width of each[bk] frame was 2¼ feet, 22 with[bl] two projections per frame parallel one to another.[bm] He made all the frames of the tabernacle in this way. 23 So he made frames for the tabernacle: twenty frames for the south side. 24 He made forty silver bases under the twenty frames—two bases under the first frame for its two projections, and likewise[bn] two bases under the next frame for its two projections, 25 and for the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, he made twenty frames 26 and their forty silver bases, two bases under the first frame and two bases under the next[bo] frame. 27 And for the back of the tabernacle on the west he made six frames. 28 He made two frames for the corners of the tabernacle on the back. 29 At the two corners[bp] they were doubled at the lower end and[bq] finished together at the top in one ring. So he did for both. 30 So there were eight frames and their silver bases, sixteen bases, two bases under each frame.

31 He made bars of acacia wood, five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle 32 and five bars for the frames on the second side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames of the tabernacle for the back side on the west. 33 He made the middle bar to reach from end to end in the center of the frames. 34 He overlaid the frames with gold and made their rings of gold to provide places[br] for the bars, and he overlaid the bars with gold.

35 He made the special curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen; he made[bs] it with cherubim, the work of an artistic designer. 36 He made for it four posts of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold, with gold hooks,[bt] and he cast for them four silver bases.

37 He made a hanging for the entrance of the tent of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer, 38 and its five posts and their hooks. He overlaid their tops[bu] and their bands with gold, but their five bases were bronze.[bv]

Matthew 27:32-66

The Crucifixion

32 As[a] they were going out, they found a man from Cyrene named Simon, whom they forced[b] to carry his cross.[c] 33 They[d] came to a place called Golgotha[e] (which means “Place of the Skull”)[f] 34 and offered Jesus[g] wine mixed with gall to drink.[h] But after tasting it, he would not drink it. 35 When[i] they had crucified[j] him, they divided his clothes by throwing dice.[k] 36 Then they sat down and kept guard over him there. 37 Above[l] his head they put the charge against him,[m] which read:[n] “This is Jesus, the king of the Jews.” 38 Then two outlaws were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. 39 Those[o] who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads 40 and saying, “You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself![p] If you are God’s Son, come down[q] from the cross!” 41 In[r] the same way even the chief priests—together with the experts in the law[s] and elders[t]—were mocking him:[u] 42 “He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down[v] now from the cross, we will believe in him! 43 He trusts in God—let God, if he wants to, deliver him now[w] because he said, ‘I am God’s Son’!” 44 The[x] robbers who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.[y]

Jesus’ Death

45 Now from noon until three,[z] darkness came over all the land.[aa] 46 At[ab] about three o’clock Jesus shouted with a loud voice,[ac]Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”[ad] 47 When[ae] some of the bystanders heard it, they said, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 Immediately[af] one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine,[ag] put it on a stick,[ah] and gave it to him to drink. 49 But the rest said, “Leave him alone! Let’s see if Elijah will come to save him.”[ai] 50 Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit. 51 Just then[aj] the temple curtain[ak] was torn in two, from top to bottom. The[al] earth shook and the rocks were split apart. 52 And tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had died[am] were raised. 53 (They[an] came out of the tombs after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.) 54 Now when the centurion[ao] and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and what took place, they were extremely terrified and said, “Truly this one was God’s Son!” 55 Many[ap] women who had followed Jesus from Galilee and given him support[aq] were also there, watching from a distance. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

Jesus’ Burial

57 Now when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.[ar] 58 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.[as] Then Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59 Joseph[at] took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,[au] 60 and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut in the rock.[av] Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance[aw] of the tomb and went away. 61 (Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there, opposite the tomb.)

The Guard at the Tomb

62 The[ax] next day (which is after the day of preparation) the chief priests and the Pharisees[ay] assembled before Pilate 63 and said, “Sir, we remember that while that deceiver was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give orders to secure the tomb until the third day. Otherwise his disciples may come and steal his body[az] and say to the people, ‘He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.” 65 Pilate said to them, “Take[ba] a guard of soldiers. Go and make it as secure as you can.” 66 So[bb] they went with the soldiers[bc] of the guard and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone.

Psalm 34:1-10

Psalm 34[a]

By David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, causing the king to send him away.[b]

34 I will praise[c] the Lord at all times;
my mouth will continually praise him.[d]
I will boast[e] in the Lord;
let the oppressed hear and rejoice.[f]
Magnify the Lord with me.
Let us praise[g] his name together.
I sought the Lord’s help[h] and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Look to him and be radiant;
do not let your faces be ashamed.[i]
This oppressed man cried out and the Lord heard;
he saved him[j] from all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord camps around
the Lord’s[k] loyal followers[l] and delivers them.[m]
Taste[n] and see that the Lord is good.
How blessed[o] is the one[p] who takes shelter in him.[q]
Fear the Lord, you chosen people of his,[r]
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 Even young lions sometimes lack food and are hungry,
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Proverbs 9:7-8

Whoever corrects[a] a mocker is asking for[b] insult;[c]
whoever reproves a wicked person receives[d] abuse.
Do not reprove[e] a mocker or[f] he will hate you;
reprove a wise person and he will love you.
