Offerings
13 “This is the offering that you shall make: one-sixth of an ephah from each homer of wheat, and one-sixth of an ephah from each homer of barley, 14 and as the fixed portion of oil[a] one-tenth of a bath[b] from each cor (the cor,[c] like the homer, contains ten baths), 15 and one sheep from every flock of two hundred from the pastures of Israel. This is the offering for grain offerings, burnt offerings, and offerings of well-being, to make atonement for them, says the Lord God.(A) 16 All the people of the land shall join in making this offering in Israel through the prince. 17 This shall be the obligation of the prince regarding the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the festivals, the new moons, and the Sabbaths, all the appointed festivals of the house of Israel: he shall provide the purification offerings, the grain offerings, the burnt offerings, and the offerings of well-being, to make atonement for the house of Israel.(B)
Festivals
18 “Thus says the Lord God: In the first month, on the first day of the month, you shall take a bull of the herd without blemish and purify the sanctuary.(C) 19 The priest shall take some of the blood of the purification offering and put it on the doorposts of the temple, the four corners of the ledge of the altar, and the posts of the gate of the inner court.(D) 20 You shall do the same on the seventh day of the month for anyone who has sinned through error or ignorance; so you shall make atonement for the temple.(E)
21 “In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, you shall celebrate the Festival of the Passover, and for seven days unleavened bread shall be eaten.(F) 22 On that day the prince shall provide for himself and all the people of the land a bull for a purification offering.(G) 23 And during the seven days of the festival he shall provide as a burnt offering to the Lord seven bulls and seven rams without blemish, on each of the seven days, and a male goat daily for a purification offering.(H) 24 He shall provide as a grain offering an ephah for each bull, an ephah for each ram, and a hin of oil to each ephah. 25 In the seventh month, on the fifteenth day of the month and for the seven days of the festival, he shall make the same provision for purification offerings, burnt offerings, and grain offerings and for the oil.(I)
Miscellaneous Regulations
46 “Thus says the Lord God: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall remain closed on the six working days, but on the Sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.(J) 2 The prince shall enter by the vestibule of the gate from outside and shall take his stand by the post of the gate. The priests shall offer his burnt offering and his offerings of well-being, and he shall bow down at the entryway of the gate. Then he shall go out, but the gate shall not be closed until evening.(K) 3 The people of the land shall bow down at the entrance of that gate before the Lord on the Sabbaths and on the new moons.(L) 4 The burnt offering that the prince offers to the Lord on the Sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish and a ram without blemish,(M) 5 and the grain offering with the ram shall be an ephah, and the grain offering with the lambs shall be as much as he wishes to give, together with a hin of oil to each ephah.(N) 6 On the day of the new moon he shall offer a bull of the herd without blemish and six lambs and a ram, which shall be without blemish;(O) 7 as a grain offering he shall provide an ephah with the bull and an ephah with the ram and with the lambs as much as he wishes, together with a hin of oil to each ephah.(P) 8 When the prince enters, he shall come in by the vestibule of the gate, and he shall go out by the same way.(Q)
9 “When the people of the land come before the Lord at the appointed festivals, whoever enters by the north gate to worship shall go out by the south gate, and whoever enters by the south gate shall go out by the north gate: they shall not return by way of the gate by which they entered but shall go out straight ahead.(R) 10 When they come in, the prince shall come in with them, and when they go out, he shall go out.
11 “At the festivals and the appointed seasons the grain offering with a bull shall be an ephah and with a ram an ephah and with the lambs as much as one wishes to give, together with a hin of oil to an ephah.(S) 12 When the prince provides a freewill offering, either a burnt offering or offerings of well-being as a freewill offering to the Lord, the gate facing east shall be opened for him, and he shall offer his burnt offering or his offerings of well-being as he does on the Sabbath day. Then he shall go out, and after he has gone out the gate shall be closed.(T)
13 “You shall provide a lamb, a yearling, without blemish, for a burnt offering to the Lord daily; morning by morning you shall provide it.(U) 14 And you shall provide a grain offering with it morning by morning regularly, one-sixth of an ephah and one-third of a hin of oil to moisten the choice flour, as a grain offering to the Lord; this is the ordinance for all time.(V) 15 Thus the lamb and the grain offering and the oil shall be provided, morning by morning, as a regular burnt offering.(W)
16 “Thus says the Lord God: If the prince makes a gift to any of his sons out of his inheritance,[d] it shall belong to his sons; it is their holding by inheritance.(X) 17 But if he makes a gift out of his inheritance to one of his servants, it shall be his to the year of liberty; then it shall revert to the prince; only his sons may keep a gift from his inheritance.(Y) 18 The prince shall not take any of the inheritance of the people, thrusting them out of their holding; he shall give his sons their inheritance out of his own holding, so that none of my people shall be dispossessed of their holding.”(Z)
19 Then he brought me through the entrance, which was at the side of the gate, to the north row of the holy chambers for the priests, and there I saw a place at the extreme western end of them.(AA) 20 He said to me, “This is the place where the priests shall boil the guilt offering and the purification offering and where they shall bake the grain offering, in order not to bring them out into the outer court and so communicate holiness to the people.”(AB)
21 Then he brought me out to the outer court and led me past the four corners of the court, and in each corner of the court there was a court: 22 in the four corners of the court were small[e] courts, forty cubits long and thirty wide; the four were of the same size. 23 On the inside, around each of the four courts,[f] was a row of masonry, with hearths made at the bottom of the rows all around. 24 Then he said to me, “These are the kitchens where those who serve at the temple shall boil the sacrifices of the people.”(AC)
A Call to Holy Living
13 Therefore prepare your minds for action;[a] discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.(A) 14 Like obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires that you formerly had in ignorance. 15 Instead, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct,(B) 16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”(C)
17 If you invoke as Father the one who judges impartially according to each person’s work, live in fear during the time of your exile.(D) 18 You know that you were ransomed from the futile conduct inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.(E) 20 He was destined before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake.(F) 21 Through him you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your trust and hope are in God.
22 Now that you have purified your souls[b] by your obedience to the truth[c] so that you have genuine mutual affection, love one another deeply from the heart.[d](G) 23 You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.[e](H) 24 For
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,(I)
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
That word is the good news that was announced to you.(J)
The Living Stone and a Chosen People
2 Rid yourselves, therefore, of all malice and all guile, insincerity, envy, and all slander.(K) 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation(L)— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.[f](M)
4 Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and 5 like living stones let yourselves be built[g] into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.(N) 6 For it stands in scripture:
“See, I am laying in Zion a stone,
a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”(O)
7 This honor, then, is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,[h]
“The stone that the builders rejected
has become the very head of the corner,”(P)
8 and
“A stone that makes them stumble
and a rock that makes them fall.”
They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.(Q)
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people,[i] in order that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.(R)
10 Once you were not a people,
but now you are God’s people;
once you had not received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.(S)
33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes,
and I will observe it to the end.(A)
34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.(B)
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,
for I delight in it.
36 Turn my heart to your decrees
and not to selfish gain.(C)
37 Turn my eyes from looking at vanities;
be gracious to me[a] according to your word.(D)
38 Confirm to your servant your promise,
which is for those who fear you.(E)
39 Turn away the disgrace that I dread,
for your ordinances are good.
40 See, I have longed for your precepts;
in your righteousness be gracious to me.[b](F)
41 Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord,
your salvation according to your promise.(G)
42 Then I shall have an answer for those who taunt me,
for I trust in your word.(H)
43 Do not take the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,
for my hope is in your ordinances.
44 I will keep your law continually,
forever and ever.
45 I shall walk at liberty,
for I have sought your precepts.
46 I will also speak of your decrees before kings
and shall not be put to shame;(I)
47 I find my delight in your commandments
because I love them.
48 I revere your commandments, which I love,
and I will meditate on your statutes.(J)
11 The rich is wise in self-esteem,
but an intelligent poor person sees through the pose.(A)
