How Good and Pleasant Is Unity
A Song of Ascents. Of David.
133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For (A)brothers to dwell together in unity!
2 It is like the good (B)oil upon the head,
Coming down upon the beard,
Aaron’s beard,
Coming down upon the (C)edge of his robes.
3 It is like the (D)dew of (E)Hermon
Coming down upon the (F)mountains of Zion;
For there, Yahweh (G)commanded the blessing—(H)life forever.
Behold, Bless Yahweh
A Song of Ascents.
134 Behold, (I)bless Yahweh, all you (J)slaves of Yahweh,
Who (K)stand in the house of Yahweh (L)by night!
2 (M)Lift up your hands to the (N)sanctuary
And bless Yahweh.
3 May Yahweh (O)bless you from Zion,
Who (P)made heaven and earth.
O Yahweh, Your Name Is Everlasting
135 [a](Q)Praise Yah!
Praise the name of Yahweh;
Praise Him, O (R)slaves of Yahweh,
2 You who stand in the house of Yahweh,
In the (S)courts of the house of our God!
3 [b]Praise Yah, for (T)Yahweh is good;
(U)Sing praises to His name, (V)for it is lovely.
4 For Yah has (W)chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel for His [c](X)treasured possession.
5 For I know that (Y)Yahweh is great
And that our Lord is greater (Z)than all gods.
6 (AA)Whatever Yahweh pleases, He does,
In heaven and on earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
7 The One who (AB)causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;
Who (AC)makes lightnings for the rain,
Who (AD)brings forth the wind from His storehouses.
8 [d]He (AE)struck the firstborn of Egypt,
From man to beast.
9 [e]He sent (AF)signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt,
Amongst (AG)Pharaoh and all his slaves.
10 [f](AH)He (AI)struck many nations
And slew mighty kings,
11 (AJ)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
And (AK)Og, king of Bashan,
And (AL)all the kingdoms of Canaan;
12 And He (AM)gave their land as an inheritance,
An inheritance to Israel His people.
13 O Yahweh, Your (AN)name is everlasting,
O Yahweh, Your [g]remembrance is [h]from generation to generation.
14 For Yahweh will (AO)render justice for His people
And (AP)will give comfort to His slaves.
15 The (AQ)idols of the nations are silver and gold,
The work of man’s hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak;
They have eyes, but they do not see;
17 They have ears, but they do not hear,
Surely, there is not any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,
All who trust in them.
19 O house of (AR)Israel, bless Yahweh;
O house of Aaron, bless Yahweh;
20 O house of Levi, bless Yahweh;
You (AS)who fear Yahweh, bless Yahweh.
21 Blessed be Yahweh (AT)from Zion,
Who (AU)dwells in Jerusalem.
[i]Praise Yah!
His Lovingkindness Endures Forever
136 (AV)Give thanks to Yahweh, for (AW)He is good,
For (AX)His lovingkindness endures forever.
2 Give thanks to the (AY)God of gods,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the (AZ)Lord of lords,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
4 To Him who (BA)alone does great [j]wonders,
For His lovingkindness endures forever;
5 To Him who (BB)made the heavens (BC)with [k]skill,
For His lovingkindness endures forever;
6 To Him who (BD)spread out the earth above the waters,
For His lovingkindness endures forever;
7 To Him who (BE)made the great lights,
For His lovingkindness endures forever:
8 The (BF)sun to rule [l]by day,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
9 The (BG)moon and stars to rule [m]by night,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
10 To Him who (BH)struck [n]the Egyptians through their firstborn,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
11 Then (BI)brought Israel out from their midst,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
12 With a (BJ)strong hand and an (BK)outstretched arm,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
13 To Him who (BL)divided the [o]Red Sea in two,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
14 And (BM)made Israel pass through the midst of it,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
15 But (BN)He [p]overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the [q]Red Sea,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
16 To Him who (BO)led His people through the wilderness,
For His lovingkindness endures forever;
17 To Him who (BP)struck great kings,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
18 And (BQ)killed [r]mighty kings,
For His lovingkindness endures forever:
19 (BR)Sihon, king of the Amorites,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
20 And (BS)Og, king of Bashan,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
21 And (BT)gave their land as an inheritance,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
22 Even an inheritance to Israel His (BU)servant,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
23 Who (BV)remembered us in our low estate,
For His lovingkindness endures forever,
24 And has (BW)snatched us from our adversaries,
For His lovingkindness endures forever;
25 Who (BX)gives food to all flesh,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
26 Give thanks to the (BY)God of heaven,
For His lovingkindness endures forever.
We Wept When We Remembered Zion
137 By the (BZ)rivers of Babylon,
There we sat and also (CA)wept,
When we remembered Zion.
2 Upon the [s](CB)willows in the midst of it
We (CC)hung our lyres.
3 For there our captors (CD)asked us about the words of a song,
And (CE)our tormentors asked joyfully, saying,
“Sing for us one of the songs of Zion.”
4 How can we sing a song of (CF)Yahweh
In a foreign land?
5 If I (CG)forget you, O Jerusalem,
May my right hand [t]forget her skill.
6 May my (CH)tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
If I do not remember you,
If I do not [u](CI)exalt Jerusalem
Above my chief joy.
7 Remember, O Yahweh, against the sons of (CJ)Edom
The day of Jerusalem,
Who said, “Tear it down! Tear it down
(CK)To its very foundation.”
8 O daughter of Babylon, you (CL)devastated one,
How blessed will be the one who (CM)repays you
With [v]the recompense with which you have recompensed us.
9 How blessed will be the one who seizes and (CN)dashes your infants
Against the cliff.
I Will Give Thanks to Your Name
Of David.
138 (CO)I will give You thanks with all my heart;
I will sing praises to You before the (CP)gods.
2 I will worship (CQ)toward Your holy temple
And (CR)give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your [w]truth;
For You have (CS)magnified Your [x]word [y]according to all Your name.
3 On the day I (CT)called, You answered me;
You made me bold with (CU)strength in my soul.
4 (CV)All the kings of the earth, O Yahweh, will give You thanks,
When they hear the words of Your mouth.
5 And they will (CW)sing of the ways of Yahweh,
For (CX)great is the glory of Yahweh.
6 For (CY)Yahweh is high,
Yet He (CZ)sees the lowly,
But the (DA)one who exalts himself He knows from afar.
7 Though I (DB)walk in the midst of [z]distress, You will [aa](DC)revive me;
You will (DD)stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will (DE)save me.
8 Yahweh will (DF)accomplish what concerns me;
O Yahweh, Your (DG)lovingkindness endures forever;
(DH)Do not fail the (DI)works of Your hands.
Where Can I Go from Your Spirit?
For the choir director. Of David. A Psalm.
139 O Yahweh, You have (DJ)searched me and known me.
2 You (DK)know [ab]when I sit down and [ac]when I rise up;
You (DL)understand my thought from afar.
3 You [ad](DM)scrutinize my [ae]path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.
4 [af]Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O Yahweh, You (DN)know it all.
5 You have (DO)enclosed me behind and before,
And You have (DP)put Your hand upon me.
6 Such (DQ)knowledge is (DR)too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot attain to it.
7 (DS)Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 (DT)If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, (DU)You are there.
9 If I lift up the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand will (DV)lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
11 If I say, “Surely the (DW)darkness will (DX)bruise me,
And the light around me will be night,”
12 Even the (DY)darkness is not too dark for You,
And the night is as bright as the day.
(DZ)Darkness and light are alike to You.
13 For You (EA)formed my [ag]inward parts;
You (EB)wove me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks to You, for [ah]I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
(EC)Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
15 My [ai](ED)frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And (EE)intricately woven in the (EF)depths of the earth;
16 Your (EG)eyes have seen my unshaped substance;
And in (EH)Your book all of them were written
The (EI)days that were formed for me,
When as yet there was not one of them.
17 How precious are Your (EJ)thoughts to me, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would (EK)outnumber the sand.
When (EL)I awake, I am still with You.
19 Oh that You would (EM)slay the wicked, O God!
(EN)O (EO)men of bloodshed, depart from me.
20 For they (EP)speak [aj]against You wickedly,
And Your enemies [ak](EQ)take Your name in vain.
21 Do I not (ER)hate those who hate You, O Yahweh?
And do I not (ES)revile those who rise up against You?
22 I hate them with the utmost hatred;
They have become my enemies.
