Psalm 115-118

115 1 A prayer of the faithful oppressed by idolatrous tyrants, against whom they desire that God would succor them,  9 trusting most constantly that God will preserve them in this their need, seeing, that he hath adopted and received them into his favor. 13 Promising finally that they will not be unmindful of so great a benefit if it would please God to hear their prayer, and deliver them by his omnipotent power.

Not [a]unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy Name give the glory for thy loving mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.

Wherefore shall the heathen say, [b]Where is now their God?

But our God is in heaven: he doeth whatsoever he [c]will.

Their idols are [d]silver and gold, even the work of men’s hands.

They have a mouth, and speak not: they have eyes, and see not.

They have ears, and hear not: they have noses and smell not.

They have [e]hands, and touch not: they have feet, and walk not: neither make they a sound with their throat.

They that make them are [f]like unto them: so are all that trust in them.

O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: for he is their help, and their shield.

10 [g]O house of Aaron trust ye in the Lord, for he is their help, and their shield.

11 Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: for he is their helper, and their shield.

12 The Lord hath been mindful of us, he will bless, he [h]will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron.

13 He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.

14 The Lord will increase his graces toward you, even toward you, and toward your children.

15 Ye are blessed of the Lord, which [i]made the heaven and the earth.

16 The [j]heavens, even the heavens are the Lord’s: but he hath given the earth to the sons of men.

17 The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that [k]go down into the place of silence.

18 But we will praise the Lord from henceforth and forever. Praise ye the Lord.

116 1 David being in great danger of Saul in the desert of M[…], perceiving the great and inestimable love of God toward him, magnifieth such great mercies, 13 and protesteth that he will be thankful for the same.

I [l]love the Lord, because he hath heard my voice and my prayers.

For he hath inclined his ear unto me, when I did call upon him [m]in my days.

When the snares of death compassed me, and the griefs of the grave caught me: When I found trouble and sorrow.

Then I called upon the Name of the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, deliver my soul.

The Lord is [n]merciful and righteous, and our God is full of compassion.

The Lord preserveth the simple: I was in misery, and he saved me.

Return unto thy rest, O [o]my soul: for the Lord hath been beneficial unto thee,

Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

I shall [p]walk before the Lord in the land of the living.

10 [q]I believed, therefore did I speak: for I was sore troubled.

11 I said in my [r]fear, All men are liars.

12 What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?

13 I will [s]take the cup of salvation, and call upon the Name of the Lord.

14 I will pay my vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people.

15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the [t]death of his Saints.

16 Behold, Lord: for I am thy servant, I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast broken my bonds.

17 I will offer to thee a sacrifice of praise, and will call upon the Name of the Lord.

18 I will pay my [u]vows unto the Lord, even now in the presence of all his people,

19 In the courts of the Lord’s house, even in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord.

117 1 He exhorteth the Gentiles to praise God, because he hath accomplished as well to them as to the Jews, the promise of life everlasting by Jesus Christ.

All (A)nations, praise ye the Lord: all ye people, praise him.

For his loving kindness is great toward us, and the [v]truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.

118 1 David rejected of Saul and of the people at the time appointed obtained the kingdom. 4 For the which he biddeth all them, that fear the Lord, to be thankful.  And under his person in all this was Christ lively set forth, who should be of his people rejected.

Praise [w]ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.

Let Israel now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

Let the house of Aaron now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

Let them that fear the Lord, now say, That his mercy endureth forever.

I called upon the Lord in [x]trouble, and the Lord heard me, and set me at large.

The Lord is with me: therefore I will not fear what [y]man can do unto me.

The Lord is with me among them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon mine enemies.

It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence [z]in man.

It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.

10 All nations have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord shall I destroy them.

11 They have compassed me, yea, they have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.

12 They came about me like bees, but they were quenched as a fire of thorns: for in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.

13 [aa]Thou hast thrust sore at me, that I might fall: but the Lord hath helped me.

14 The Lord is my strength and [ab]song: for he hath been my deliverance.

15 The [ac]voice of joy and deliverance shall be in the tabernacles of the righteous, saying, The right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.

16 [ad]The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

18 The Lord had chastened me sore, but he hath not delivered me to death.

19 Open ye unto me the [ae]gates of righteousness, that I may go into them, and praise the Lord.

20 This is the gate of the Lord: the righteous shall enter into it.

21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and hast been my deliverance.

22 (B)The stone, which the builders [af]refused, is the head of the corner.

23 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,

24 This is the [ag]day, which the Lord hath made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.

25 [ah]O Lord, I pray thee, save now: O Lord, I pray thee now give prosperity.

26 Blessed be he, that cometh in the Name of the Lord: [ai]we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.

27 The Lord is mighty, and hath given us [aj]light: bind the sacrifice with cords unto the horns of the altar.

28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee, even my God: therefore I will exalt thee.

29 Praise ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
