Beginning
8 13 The flood ceaseth. 16 Noah is commanded to come forth of the Ark with his. 20 He sacrificeth to the Lord. 22 God promiseth that all things should continue in their first order.
1 Now God [a]remembered Noah and [b]every beast, and all the cattle that were with him in the Ark: therefore God made a wind to pass upon the earth, and the waters ceased.
2 The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.
3 And the waters returned from above the earth, going and returning: and after the end of the hundred and fiftieth day the waters abated.
4 And in the [c]seventh month, in the seventeenth day of the month, the Ark [d]rested upon the mountains of [e]Ararat.
5 And the waters were going and decreasing until the [f]tenth month: in the tenth month, and in the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
6 ¶ So [g]after forty days, Noah opened the window of the Ark which he had made,
7 And sent forth a raven, which went out, going forth and returning, until the waters were dried up upon the earth.
8 Again he sent a dove from him, that he might see if the waters were diminished from off the earth.
9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot: therefore she returned unto him into the Ark (for the waters were upon the whole earth) and he [h]put forth his hand, and received her, and took her to him into the Ark.
10 And he abode yet another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the Ark.
11 And the dove came to him in the evening, and lo in her [i]mouth was an [j]olive leaf that she had plucked: whereby Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.
12 Notwithstanding, he waited yet another seven days, and sent forth the dove, which returned not again unto him anymore.
13 ¶ And in the six hundred and one year, in the first day of the [k]first month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the Ark, and looked, and behold, the upper part of the ground was dry.
14 And in the second month, in the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dry.
15 ¶ Then God spake to Noah, saying,
16 [l]Go forth of the Ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
17 Bring forth with thee every beast that is with thee, of all flesh, both fowl and cattle, and everything that creepeth and moveth upon the earth, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, (A)and bring forth fruit and increase upon the earth.
18 So Noah came forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him.
19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, all that moveth upon the earth, after their kinds, went out of the Ark.
20 ¶ Then Noah [m]built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings upon the altar.
21 And the Lord smelled a [n][o]savor of rest, and the Lord said in his heart, I will henceforth curse the ground no more for man’s cause: for the (B)imagination of man’s heart is evil, even from his youth: neither will I smite anymore all things living, as I have done.
22 Hereafter [p]seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and Summer and Winter, and day and night shall not cease, so long as the earth remaineth.
9 1 The confirmation of marriage. 2 Man’s authoritiy over all creatures. 3 Permission of meats. 6 The power of the sword. 14 The rainbow is the sign of God’s promise. 21 Noah is drunk, and mocked of his son, whom he curseth. 29 The age and death of Noah.
1 And God [q]blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, (C)Bring forth fruit, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
2 Also the [r]fear of you, and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the heaven, upon all that moveth on the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea: into your hand are they delivered.
3 Everything [s]that moveth and liveth, shall be meat for you: as the (D)green herb, have I given you all things.
4 (E)[t]But flesh with the life thereof, I mean, with the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.
5 [u]For surely I will require your blood, wherein your lives are: at the hands of every beast will I require it: and at the hand of man, even at the hand of a man’s [v]brother will I require the life of man.
6 Who so (F)sheddeth man’s blood, [w]by man shall his blood be shed: (G)for in the [x]image of God hath he made man.
7 But bring ye forth fruit and multiply: grow plentifully in the earth, and increase therein.
8 ¶ God spake also to Noah and to his sons with him, saying,
9 Behold, I, even I establish my [y]covenant with you, and with your [z]seed after you,
10 And with every living creature that is with you, with the fowl, with the cattle, and with every beast of the earth with you, from all that go out of the Ark, unto every beast of the earth.
11 (H)And my covenant will I establish with you, that from henceforth all flesh shall not be rooted out by the waters of the flood, neither shall there be a flood to destroy the earth anymore.
12 Then God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you, and between every living thing that is with you unto perpetual generations.
13 I have set my [aa]bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 And when I shall cover the earth with a cloud, and the bow shall be seen in the cloud,
15 Then will I remember my [ab]covenant which is between me and you, and between every living thing in all flesh, and there shall be no more waters of a flood to destroy all flesh.
16 Therefore the bow shall be in the cloud, that I may see it, and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living thing, in all flesh that is upon the earth.
17 God said yet to Noah, [ac]This is the sign of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
18 ¶ Now the sons of Noah going forth of the Ark, were Shem and Ham and Japheth. And Ham is the father of Canaan.
19 These are the three sons of Noah, and of them was the whole earth [ad]overspread.
20 [ae]Noah also began to be an husbandman, and planted a vineyard.
21 And he drunk of the wine, and was [af]drunken, and was uncovered in the midst of his tent.
22 And when Ham the father of [ag]Canaan saw the nakedness of his father, [ah]he told his two brethren without.
23 Then took Shem and Japheth a garment, and put it upon both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father with their faces backward: so they saw not their father’s nakedness.
24 Then Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him,
25 And said, [ai]Cursed be Canaan: a [aj]servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
26 He said moreover, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem, and let Canaan be his [ak]servant.
27 God [al][am]persuade Japheth, that he may dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be his servant.
28 ¶ And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.
29 So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.
10 1 The increase of mankind by Noah and his sons. 10 The beginning of cities, countries, and nations.
1 Now these are the [an]generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham and Japheth: unto whom sons were born after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth were Gomer, and Magog, and [ao]Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
3 And the sons of Gomer, Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Also the sons of Javan, Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5 Of these were the [ap]isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, every man after his tongue, and after their families in their nations.
6 ¶ Moreover, the sons of Ham were [aq]Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.
7 And the sons of Cush, Seba and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: also the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
8 And Cush begat Nimrod, who began to be [ar]mighty in the earth.
9 He was a mighty hunter before the Lord. Wherefore it is said, [as]As Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.
10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of [at]Shinar.
11 Out of that land came Assyria, and built Nineveh, and the [au]city Rehoboth, and Calah:
12 Resen also between Nineveh and Calah: this is a great city.
13 And Mizraim begat [av]Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim.
14 Pathrusim also, and Casluhim (out of whom came the Philistines) and [aw]Caphtorims.
15 Also Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth,
16 And Jebusi, and Emori, and Girgashi,
17 And Hivi, and Arki, and Sini,
18 And Arvadi, and Zemari, and Hamathi: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.
19 Then the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar until Gaza, and as thou goest unto Sodom and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboiim, even unto Lasha.
20 These are the sons of Ham according to their families, according to their tongues in their countries, and in their nations.
21 ¶ Unto [ax]Shem also the father of all the sons of [ay]Eber, and elder brother of Japheth were children born.
22 (I)The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.
23 And the sons of Aram, Uz and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.
24 Also Arphaxad begat Salah, and Salah begat Eber.
25 Unto Eber also were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg: for in his days was the earth [az]divided: and his brother’s name was Joktan.
26 Then Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,
27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,
28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,
29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.
30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest up to Sephar, a mount of the East.
31 These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their tongues in their countries and nations.
32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations among their people: and [ba]out of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
11 6 The building of Babel was the cause of the confusion of tongues. 10 The age and generation of Shem unto Abram. 31 Abram’s departure from Ur with his father Terah, Sarai and Lot. 32 The age and death of Terah.
1 Then the whole earth was of one language and one speech.
2 And [bb]as [bc]they went from the [bd]East, they found a plain in the land of [be]Shinar, and there they abode.
3 And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick and burn it in the fire, so they had brick for stone, and slime had they instead of mortar.
4 Also they said, Go to, let us [bf]build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto the heaven, that we may get us a name, lest we be scattered upon the whole earth.
5 But the Lord [bg]came down, to see the city and tower which the sons of men built.
6 And the Lord said, [bh]Behold, the people is one, and they all have one language, and this they begin to do, neither can they now be stopped from whatsoever they have imagined to do.
7 Come on, [bi]let us go down, and [bj]there confound their language, that everyone perceive not another’s speech.
8 So the Lord scattered them from thence upon all the earth, and they left off to build the city.
9 Therefore the name of it was called [bk]Babel, because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: from thence then did the Lord scatter them upon all the earth.
10 ¶ (J)These are the generations [bl]of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood.
11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 Also Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah.
13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah, four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber.
15 So Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 Likewise Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg.
17 So Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu.
19 (K)And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 Also Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug.
21 So Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 Moreover Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor.
23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah.
25 So Nahor lived after he begat Terah, an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 (L)So Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 ¶ Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat [bm]Abram, Nahor, and Haran: and Haran begat Lot.
28 Then Haran died before Terah his father in the land of his nativity, in Ur of [bn]the Chaldeans.
29 So Abram and Nahor took them wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of [bo]Iscah.
30 But Sarai was barren, and had no child.
31 Then [bp]Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife: and they departed together from Ur of the Chaldeans, to (M)go into the land of Canaan, and they came to [bq]Haran, and dwelt there.
32 So the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
