Simple Trust in the Lord

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

131 Lord, my heart is not [a]haughty,
Nor my eyes [b]lofty.
(A)Neither do I [c]concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too [d]profound for me.

Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
(B)Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

(C)O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.

The Eternal Dwelling of God in Zion

A Song of Ascents.

132 Lord, remember David
And all his afflictions;
How he swore to the Lord,
(D)And vowed to (E)the Mighty One of Jacob:
“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,
Or go up to the comfort of my bed;
I will (F)not give sleep to my eyes
Or slumber to my eyelids,
Until I (G)find a place for the Lord,
A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Behold, we heard of it (H)in Ephrathah;
(I)We found it (J)in the fields of [e]the woods.
Let us go into His tabernacle;
(K)Let us worship at His footstool.
(L)Arise, O Lord, to Your resting place,
You and (M)the ark of Your strength.
Let Your priests (N)be clothed with righteousness,
And let Your saints shout for joy.

10 For Your servant David’s sake,
Do not turn away the face of Your [f]Anointed.

11 (O)The Lord has sworn in truth to David;
He will not turn from it:
“I will set upon your throne (P)the [g]fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I shall teach them,
Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.”

13 (Q)For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His [h]dwelling place:
14 “This(R) is My resting place forever;
Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 (S)I will abundantly bless her [i]provision;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 (T)I will also clothe her priests with salvation,
(U)And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.
17 (V)There I will make the [j]horn of David grow;
(W)I will prepare a lamp for My [k]Anointed.
18 His enemies I will (X)clothe with shame,
But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.”

Blessed Unity of the People of God

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

133 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For (Y)brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
It is like the dew of (Z)Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For (AA)there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

Praising the Lord in His House at Night

A Song of Ascents.

134 Behold, bless the Lord,
All you servants of the Lord,
Who by night stand in the house of the Lord!
(AB)Lift up your hands in the sanctuary,
And bless the Lord.

The Lord who made heaven and earth
Bless you from Zion!

Praise to God in Creation and Redemption

135 Praise the Lord!

Praise the name of the Lord;
(AC)Praise Him, O you servants of the Lord!
(AD)You who stand in the house of the Lord,
In (AE)the courts of the house of our God,
Praise the Lord, for (AF)the Lord is good;
Sing praises to His name, (AG)for it is pleasant.
For (AH)the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel for His [l]special treasure.

For I know that (AI)the Lord is great,
And our Lord is above all gods.
(AJ)Whatever the Lord pleases He does,
In heaven and in earth,
In the seas and in all deep places.
(AK)He causes the [m]vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
(AL)He makes lightning for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His (AM)treasuries.

(AN)He [n]destroyed the firstborn of Egypt,
[o]Both of man and beast.
(AO)He sent signs and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt,
(AP)Upon Pharaoh and all his servants.
10 (AQ)He defeated many nations
And slew mighty kings—
11 Sihon king of the Amorites,
Og king of Bashan,
And (AR)all the kingdoms of Canaan—
12 (AS)And gave their land as a [p]heritage,
A heritage to Israel His people.

13 (AT)Your name, O Lord, endures forever,
Your fame, O Lord, throughout all generations.
14 (AU)For the Lord will judge His people,
And He will have compassion on His servants.

15 (AV)The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
The work of men’s hands.
16 They have mouths, but they do not speak;
Eyes they have, but they do not see;
17 They have ears, but they do not hear;
Nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them are like them;
So is everyone who trusts in them.

19 (AW)Bless the Lord, O house of Israel!
Bless the Lord, O house of Aaron!
20 Bless the Lord, O house of Levi!
You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord (AX)out of Zion,
Who dwells in Jerusalem!

Praise the Lord!

2 Kings 23:4-25

And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the (A)priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring (B)out of the temple of the Lord all the articles that were made for Baal, for [a]Asherah, and for all [b]the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel. Then he removed the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the [c]constellations, and to (C)all the host of heaven. And he brought out the (D)wooden[d] image from the house of the Lord, to the Brook Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it at the Brook Kidron and ground it to (E)ashes, and threw its ashes on (F)the graves of the common people. Then he tore down the ritual [e]booths (G)of the [f]perverted persons that were in the house of the Lord, (H)where the (I)women wove hangings for the wooden image. And he brought all the priests from the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from (J)Geba to Beersheba; also he broke down the high places at the gates which were at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were to the left of the city gate. (K)Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, (L)but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren.

10 And he defiled (M)Topheth, which is in (N)the Valley of the [g]Son of Hinnom, (O)that no man might make his son or his daughter (P)pass through the fire to Molech. 11 Then he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had [h]dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech, the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. 12 The altars that were (Q)on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which (R)Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, the king broke down and pulverized there, and threw their dust into the Brook Kidron. 13 Then the king defiled the [i]high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the [j]south of [k]the Mount of Corruption, which (S)Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon. 14 And he (T)broke in pieces the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images, and filled their places with the bones of men.

15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the [l]high place (U)which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image. 16 As Josiah turned, he saw the tombs that were there on the mountain. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar, and defiled it according to the (V)word of the Lord which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words. 17 Then he said, “What gravestone is this that I see?”

So the men of the city told him, “It is (W)the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

18 And he said, “Let him alone; let no one move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of (X)the prophet who came from Samaria.

19 Now Josiah also took away all the [m]shrines of the [n]high places that were (Y)in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke [o]the Lord to anger; and he did to them according to all the deeds he had done in Bethel. 20 (Z)He (AA)executed all the priests of the [p]high places who were there, on the altars, and (AB)burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

21 Then the king commanded all the people, saying, (AC)“Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, (AD)as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.” 22 (AE)Such a Passover surely had never been held since the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah. 23 But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover was held before the Lord in Jerusalem. 24 Moreover Josiah put away those who consulted mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might perform the words of (AF)the law which were written in the book (AG)that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord. 25 (AH)Now before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Spiritual Gifts: Unity in Diversity

12 Now (A)concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: You know (B)that[a] you were Gentiles, carried away to these (C)dumb[b] idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus [c]accursed, and (D)no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

(E)There are [d]diversities of gifts, but (F)the same Spirit. (G)There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God (H)who works [e]all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given (I)the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another (J)the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, (K)to another faith by the same Spirit, to another (L)gifts of healings by [f]the same Spirit, 10 (M)to another the working of miracles, to another (N)prophecy, to another (O)discerning of spirits, to another (P)different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, (Q)distributing to each one individually (R)as He wills.

Matthew 9:18-26

A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed(A)

18 (B)While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.” 19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His (C)disciples.

20 (D)And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and (E)touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; (F)your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

23 (G)When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw (H)the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing, 24 He said to them, (I)“Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. 25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and (J)took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the (K)report of this went out into all that land.
