Book of Common Prayer
The King of Glory
Of David. A Psalm.
24 The (A)earth is Yahweh’s, as well as its fullness,
The (B)world, and those who dwell in it.
2 For He has (C)founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the rivers.
3 Who may (D)ascend into the (E)mountain of Yahweh?
And who may rise in His holy (F)place?
4 He who has (G)innocent hands and a (H)pure heart,
Who has not (I)lifted up his soul [a]to worthlessness
And has not (J)sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall lift up a (K)blessing from Yahweh
And [b](L)righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 [c]This is the generation of those who (M)seek Him,
Who seek Your face—pay heed O Jacob. [d]Selah.
7 (N)Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, O [e]ancient doors,
That the King of (O)glory may come in!
8 Who is this King of glory?
Yahweh (P)strong and mighty,
Yahweh (Q)mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift yourselves up, O [f]ancient doors,
That the King of (R)glory may come in!
10 Who is He, this King of glory?
Yahweh of (S)hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah.
The Voice of Yahweh
A Psalm of David.
29 (A)Ascribe to Yahweh, O [a]sons of the mighty,
Ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
2 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name;
Worship Yahweh (B)in the splendor of holiness.
3 The (C)voice of Yahweh is upon the waters;
The God of glory (D)thunders,
Yahweh is over [b](E)many waters.
4 The voice of Yahweh is (F)powerful,
The voice of Yahweh is full of splendor.
5 The voice of Yahweh breaks the cedars;
Indeed, Yahweh breaks in pieces (G)the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon (H)skip like a calf,
And (I)Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of Yahweh hews out [c]flames of fire.
8 The voice of Yahweh causes the wilderness to tremble;
Yahweh causes the wilderness of (J)Kadesh to tremble.
9 The voice of Yahweh makes (K)the deer to calve
And strips the forests bare;
And (L)in His temple everything says, “Glory!”
How Majestic Is Your Name
For the choir director. According to the Gittith. A Psalm of David.
8 O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who [a](A)displays Your splendor above the heavens!
2 (B)From the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have established [b](C)strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make (D)the enemy and the revengeful cease.
3 When I (E)see (F)Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The (G)moon and the stars, which You have established;
4 (H)What is man that You remember him,
And the son of man that You care for him?
5 Yet You have made him a (I)little lower than the [c]angels,
And (J)You crown him with (K)glory and majesty!
6 You make him to (L)rule over the works of Your hands;
You have (M)put all things under his feet,
7 All sheep and oxen,
And also the animals of the field,
8 The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea,
Whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
9 (N)O Yahweh, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
Blessed Is the Man Who Trusts in You
For the choir director. According to the [a]Gittith. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
84 How lovely are Your (A)dwelling places,
O Yahweh of hosts!
2 My (B)soul has longed and even [b]fainted for the courts of Yahweh;
My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the (C)living God.
3 Even the bird has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself, where she sets her young,
At Your (D)altars, O Yahweh of hosts,
(E)My King and my God.
4 How (F)blessed are those who dwell in Your house!
They are (G)ever praising You. [c]Selah.
5 How blessed is the man whose (H)strength is in You,
In [d]whose heart are the (I)highways to Zion!
6 Passing through the valley of [e]Baca they make it a [f]spring;
The (J)early rain also wraps it up with blessings.
7 They (K)go from strength to strength,
[g]Each one of them (L)appears before God in Zion.
8 O (M)Yahweh God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O (N)God of Jacob! Selah.
9 See our (O)shield, O God,
And look upon the face of (P)Your anointed.
10 For (Q)better is a day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.
I would choose to stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For Yahweh God is (R)a sun and (S)shield;
Yahweh gives grace and (T)glory;
(U)No good thing does He withhold [h]from those who walk blamelessly.
12 O Yahweh of hosts,
How (V)blessed is the man who trusts in You!
Yahweh Sends Jeremiah the Prophet
1 The words of (A)Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in (B)Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of [a]Yahweh came in the days of (C)Josiah the son of (D)Amon, king of Judah, in the (E)thirteenth year of his reign. 3 And it came in the days of (F)Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of (G)Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
4 Now the word of Yahweh came to me saying,
5 “Before I (H)formed you in the [b]innermost parts I knew you,
And (I)before you came out from the womb I set you apart;
I have (J)given you as a prophet to the nations.”
6 Then (K)I said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh!
Behold, I do not know how to speak
Because (L)I am a youth.”
7 But Yahweh said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
(M)Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And (N)all that I command you, you shall speak.
8 (O)Do not be afraid of them,
For (P)I am with you to deliver you,” declares Yahweh.
9 Then Yahweh sent forth His hand and (Q)touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me,
11 For no one can lay a (A)foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, [a]precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 (B)each man’s work will become evident, for (C)the day will indicate it because it is revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test [b]the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will (D)receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, yet (E)so as through fire.
16 (F)Do you not know that (G)you are a [c]sanctuary of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? 17 If any man destroys the [d]sanctuary of God, God will destroy him, for the [e]sanctuary of God is holy, and [f]that is what you are.
18 (H)Let no man deceive himself. (I)If any man among you thinks that he is wise in (J)this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. 19 For (K)the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is (L)the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20 and again, “(M)The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” 21 So then (N)let no one boast in men. For (O)all things belong to you, 22 (P)whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or (Q)life or death or things present or things to come; all things belong to you, 23 and (R)you belong to Christ, and (S)Christ belongs to God.
31 (A)Then His mother and His brothers *arrived, and standing outside they sent word to Him, calling Him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around Him, and they *said to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You.” 33 And answering them, He *said, “Who are My mother and My brothers?” 34 And looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He *said, “(B)Behold My mother and My brothers! 35 For whoever (C)does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
The Parable of the Sower
4 (D)And He began to teach again (E)by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that (F)He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land. 2 And He was teaching them many things in (G)parables, and was saying to them in His teaching, 3 “Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 and it happened that as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 And other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. 6 And after the sun rose, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 And other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no [a]crop. 8 And other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they were yielding a [b]crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.” 9 And He was saying, “(H)He who has ears to hear, [c]let him hear.”
