Psalm 50

God Himself Is Judge

A Psalm of [a]Asaph.

50 (A)The Mighty One, God, Yahweh, has spoken,
And called the earth (B)from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Out of Zion, (C)the perfection of beauty,
God (D)has shone forth.
May our God (E)come and not be silent;
(F)Fire devours before Him,
And (G)a storm whirls around Him.
He (H)calls the heavens above,
And the earth, to render justice to His people:
“Gather My (I)holy ones to Me,
Those who have cut a (J)covenant with Me by (K)sacrifice.”
And the (L)heavens declare His righteousness,
For (M)God Himself is judge. [b]Selah.

(N)Hear, O My people, and I will speak;
O Israel, I will testify [c]against you;
I am God, (O)your God.
I do (P)not reprove you for your sacrifices,
And your burnt offerings are continually before Me.
I shall take no (Q)young bull out of your house
Nor male goats out of your folds.
10 For (R)every beast of the forest is Mine,
The cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know every (S)bird of the mountains,
And everything that moves in the field is [d]Mine.
12 If I were hungry I would not tell you,
For the (T)world is Mine, as well as its fullness.
13 Shall I eat the flesh of [e](U)bulls
Or drink the blood of male goats?
14 Offer to God (V)a sacrifice of thanksgiving
And (W)pay your vows to the Most High;
15 (X)Call upon Me in the day of distress;
I shall (Y)rescue you, and you will (Z)glorify Me.”

16 But to the wicked God says,
“What right have you to recount My statutes
And to take (AA)My covenant in your mouth?
17 For you (AB)hate discipline,
And you (AC)cast My words behind you.
18 When you see a thief, you [f](AD)are pleased with him,
And [g]you (AE)associate with adulterers.
19 You [h](AF)let your mouth loose in evil
And you harness your (AG)tongue for deceit.
20 You sit and (AH)speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done and (AI)I kept silent;
You thought that I was just like you;
I will (AJ)reprove you and state the case in order before your eyes.

22 “Now consider this, you who (AK)forget God,
Lest I (AL)tear you in pieces, and there will be none to deliver.
23 He who (AM)offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies Me;
And he who [i](AN)orders his way,
I shall (AO)show the salvation of God.”

Psalm 59-60

Deliver Me from My Enemies

For the choir director. [a]Al-tashheth. Of David. A [b]Mikhtam. [c]When Saul sent men and they watched the house in order to put him to death.

59 (A)Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
[d](B)Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me.
Deliver me from (C)workers of iniquity
And save me from (D)men of bloodshed.
For behold, they (E)have lain in wait for my soul;
[e]Fierce men [f](F)launch an attack against me,
(G)Not for my transgression nor for my sin, O Yahweh,
[g](H)For no guilt of mine, they run and set themselves against me.
(I)Arouse Yourself to meet me, and see!
You, (J)O Yahweh God of hosts, the God of Israel,
Awake to [h](K)punish all the nations;
(L)Do not be gracious to any who are treacherous in [i]iniquity. [j]Selah.
They (M)return at evening, they howl like a (N)dog,
And go around the city.
Behold, they (O)pour forth speech with their mouth;
(P)Swords are in their lips,
For, they say, “(Q)Who hears?”
But You, O Yahweh, (R)laugh at them;
You (S)mock all the nations.

Because of [k]his (T)strength I will watch for You,
For God is my (U)stronghold.
10 [l]My God (V)in His lovingkindness will approach me;
God will let me (W)look triumphantly upon [m]my foes.
11 Do not slay them, (X)or my people will forget;
(Y)Make them wander about by Your power, and bring them down,
O Lord, (Z)our shield.
12 [n]On account of the (AA)sin of their mouth and the word of their lips,
Let them even be (AB)caught in their pride,
And on account of (AC)curses and [o]lies which they utter.
13 [p](AD)Destroy them in wrath, [q]destroy them that they may be no more;
That men may (AE)know that God [r]rules in Jacob
To the ends of the earth. Selah.
14 They (AF)return at evening, they howl like a dog,
And go around the city.
15 They (AG)wander about [s]for food
And [t]growl if they are not satisfied.

16 But as for me, I shall (AH)sing of Your strength;
And I shall (AI)joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the (AJ)morning,
For You have been my (AK)stronghold
And a (AL)refuge in the day of my distress.
17 (AM)O my strength, I will sing praises to You;
For God is my (AN)stronghold, the [u]God who shows me lovingkindness.

Through God We Shall Do Valiantly

For the choir director. According to [v]Shushan Eduth. A [w]Mikhtam of David. For teaching. [x]When he struggled with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and Joab returned, and smote twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt.

60 O God, (AO)You have rejected us. You have [y](AP)broken us;
You have been (AQ)angry; Oh, (AR)restore us.
You have made the [z](AS)land quake, You have split it open;
(AT)Heal its breaches, for it shakes.
You have (AU)caused Your people to see hardship;
You have given us [aa]wine to (AV)drink that causes reeling.
You have given a (AW)banner to those who fear You,
[ab]In order to flee to it from the bow. [ac]Selah.
(AX)That Your (AY)beloved may be rescued,
(AZ)Save with Your right hand, and answer [ad]us!

God has spoken in His [ae](BA)holiness:
“I will exult, I will portion out (BB)Shechem and measure out the valley of (BC)Succoth.
(BD)Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine;
(BE)Ephraim also is the [af]helmet of My head;
Judah is My [ag](BF)scepter.
(BG)Moab is My washbowl;
Over (BH)Edom I shall throw My shoe;
Make a loud shout, O (BI)Philistia, because of Me!”

Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who [ah]will lead me to Edom?
10 Have You Yourself, O God, not (BJ)rejected us?
And (BK)will You, O God, not go forth with our armies?
11 Oh give us help against the adversary,
For (BL)salvation [ai]by man is worthless.
12 [aj]Through God we shall (BM)do valiantly,
And it is He who will (BN)tread down our adversaries.

Psalm 19

The Law of Yahweh Is Perfect

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

19 The (A)heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And the (B)expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
Day to (C)day pours forth [a]speech,
And (D)night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no [b]speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their [c](E)line has gone out through all the earth,
And their utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has (F)placed a tent for the sun,
Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
Its (G)rising is from [d]one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the [e]other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

(H)The law of Yahweh is [f](I)perfect, (J)restoring the soul;
The testimony of Yahweh is (K)sure, making (L)wise the simple.
The precepts of Yahweh are (M)right, (N)rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of Yahweh is (O)pure, (P)enlightening the eyes.
The fear of Yahweh is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of Yahweh are (Q)true; they are (R)righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than (S)gold, even more than much fine gold;
(T)Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them (U)Your slave is warned;
In keeping them there is great (V)reward.
12 Who can (W)discern his errors? (X)Acquit me of (Y)hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your slave (Z)from presumptuous sins;
Let them not (AA)rule over me;
Then I will be [g](AB)blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of (AC)great transgression.
14 Let the [h]words of my mouth and (AD)the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Yahweh, (AE)my rock and my (AF)Redeemer.

Psalm 46

God Is Our Refuge and Strength

For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. [a]According to Alamoth. A Song.

46 God is our (A)refuge and strength,
[b]A very (B)present help (C)in [c]trouble.
Therefore we will (D)not fear, though (E)the earth should change
And though (F)the mountains shake into the heart of the [d]sea;
Though its (G)waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its lofty pride. [e]Selah.

There is a (H)river whose streams make glad the (I)city of God,
The holy (J)dwelling places of the Most High.
God is (K)in the midst of her, she will not be shaken;
God will (L)help her [f]when morning dawns.
The [g]nations (M)roar, the kingdoms shake;
He (N)gives His voice, the earth (O)melts.
Yahweh of hosts (P)is with us;
The God of Jacob is (Q)our stronghold. Selah.

Come, (R)behold the works of Yahweh,
[h]Who has appointed (S)desolations in the earth.
He (T)makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He (U)breaks the bow and cuts up the spear;
He (V)burns the chariots with fire.
10 [i]Cease striving and (W)know that I am God;
I will be (X)exalted among the [j]nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 Yahweh of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah.

Deuteronomy 9:23-10:5

23 When Yahweh sent you from (A)Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘(B)Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the [a]command of Yahweh your God; (C)you did not believe Him, and you did not listen to His voice. 24 (D)You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day I knew you.

25 (E)So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and the forty nights, which I [b]did because Yahweh had said He would destroy you. 26 (F)And I prayed to Yahweh and said, ‘O Lord Yahweh, do not destroy Your people, even Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a strong hand. 27 Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look at the stiff-neck of this people or at their wickedness or their sin, 28 lest the land from which You brought us say, “(G)Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which He had [c]promised them and because He hated them He has brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.” 29 Yet they are Your people, even (H)Your inheritance, whom You have brought out by Your (I)great power and Your outstretched arm.’

The Tablets Rewritten

10 “At that time Yahweh said to me, ‘(J)Carve out for yourself two tablets of stone like the former ones, and come up to Me on the mountain, and (K)make an ark of wood for yourself. (L)And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered, and (M)you shall put them in the ark.’ So (N)I made an ark of acacia wood and (O)carved out two tablets of stone like the former ones and went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. And He wrote on the tablets, like the former writing, (P)the Ten [d]Commandments (Q)which Yahweh had spoken to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire (R)on the day of the assembly; and Yahweh gave them to me. Then I turned and (S)came down from the mountain and (T)put the tablets in the ark which I had made; (U)and there they are, as Yahweh commanded me.”

Hebrews 4:1-10

The Believer’s Rest

Therefore, let us fear, lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have (A)fallen short of it. For indeed we have had good news proclaimed to us, just as they also; but (B)the word [a]that was heard did not profit those [b]who were not united with faith among those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,

(C)As I swore in My wrath,
They shall not enter My rest,”

although His works were finished (D)from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken (E)somewhere in this way concerning the seventh day: “(F)And God (G)rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this passage, “(H)They shall not enter My rest.” Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news proclaimed to them failed to enter because of (I)disobedience, He again determines a certain day, “Today,” saying [c]through David after so long a time just (J)as has been said before,

(K)Today if you hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

For (L)if [d]Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also (M)rested from his works, as (N)God did from His.

John 3:16-21

16 “For God [a]so (A)loved the world, that He (B)gave His [b](C)only begotten Son, that whoever (D)believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God (E)did not send the Son into the world (F)to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 (G)He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of (H)the [c]only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that (I)the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for (J)their deeds were evil. 20 (K)For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed. 21 But he who (L)practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been done by God.”
