118 1 David rejected of Saul and of the people at the time appointed obtained the kingdom. 4 For the which he biddeth all them, that fear the Lord, to be thankful. And under his person in all this was Christ lively set forth, who should be of his people rejected.
1 Praise [a]ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
2 Let Israel now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
3 Let the house of Aaron now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
4 Let them that fear the Lord, now say, That his mercy endureth forever.
5 I called upon the Lord in [b]trouble, and the Lord heard me, and set me at large.
6 The Lord is with me: therefore I will not fear what [c]man can do unto me.
7 The Lord is with me among them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon mine enemies.
8 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence [d]in man.
9 It is better to trust in the Lord, than to have confidence in princes.
10 All nations have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord shall I destroy them.
11 They have compassed me, yea, they have compassed me: but in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
12 They came about me like bees, but they were quenched as a fire of thorns: for in the Name of the Lord I shall destroy them.
13 [e]Thou hast thrust sore at me, that I might fall: but the Lord hath helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and [f]song: for he hath been my deliverance.
15 The [g]voice of joy and deliverance shall be in the tabernacles of the righteous, saying, The right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
16 [h]The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord hath done valiantly.
17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
18 The Lord had chastened me sore, but he hath not delivered me to death.
19 Open ye unto me the [i]gates of righteousness, that I may go into them, and praise the Lord.
20 This is the gate of the Lord: the righteous shall enter into it.
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and hast been my deliverance.
22 (A)The stone, which the builders [j]refused, is the head of the corner.
23 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes,
24 This is the [k]day, which the Lord hath made: let us rejoice and be glad in it.
25 [l]O Lord, I pray thee, save now: O Lord, I pray thee now give prosperity.
26 Blessed be he, that cometh in the Name of the Lord: [m]we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.
27 The Lord is mighty, and hath given us [n]light: bind the sacrifice with cords unto the horns of the altar.
28 Thou art my God, and I will praise thee, even my God: therefore I will exalt thee.
29 Praise ye the Lord, because he is good: for his mercy endureth forever.
145 This Psalm was composed when the kingdom of David flourished. 1 Wherein he describeth the wonderful providence of God, as well in governing man, as in preserving all the rest of his creatures. 17 He praiseth God for his justice and mercy. 18 But specially for his loving-kindness toward those that call upon him, that fear him, and love him: 21 For the which he promiseth to praise him forever.
A Psalm of David of praise.
1 O my God and King, [a]I will extol thee, and will bless thy Name forever and ever.
2 I will bless thee daily, and praise thy Name forever and ever.
3 [b]Great is the Lord, and most worthy to be praised, and his greatness is incomprehensible.
4 Generation shall praise thy works unto [c]generation, and declare thy power.
5 I will meditate of the beauty of thy glorious majesty, and thy wonderful works.
6 And they shall speak of the power of thy [d]dreadful acts, and I will declare thy greatness.
7 They shall break out into the mention of thy great goodness, and shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
8 (A)The Lord is gracious, and [e]merciful, slow to anger, and of great mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all, and his mercies are over all his works.
10 All thy works praise thee, O Lord, and thy Saints bless thee.
11 [f]They show the glory of thy kingdom, and speak of thy power,
12 To cause his [g]power to be known to the sons of men, and the glorious renown of his kingdom.
13 Thy (B)kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all ages.
14 The Lord upholdeth all that [h]fall, and lifteth up all that are ready to fall.
15 The eyes of [i]all wait upon thee, and thou givest them their meat in due season.
16 Thou openest thine hand, and fillest all things living of thy good pleasure.
17 The Lord is [j]righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.
18 The Lord is near unto all that call upon him, yea, to all that call upon him in [k]truth.
19 He will fulfill the [l]desire of them that fear him; he will also hear their cry, and will save them.
20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him; but he will destroy the wicked.
21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord, and all [m]flesh shall bless his holy Name forever and ever.
4 Yet I am the Lord thy God [a]from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no God but me: for there is no Savior beside me.
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of drought.
6 As in their pastures, so were they filled: they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me.
7 And I will be unto them as a very lion, and as a leopard in the way of Assyria.
8 I will meet them, as a bear that is robbed of her whelps, and I will break the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beasts shall tear them.
9 O Israel, one [b]hath destroyed thee, but in me is thine help.
10 [c]I am: where is thy king that should help thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidest, Give me a king and princes?
11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and I took him away in my wrath.
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is [d]bound up: his sin is hid.
13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son, else would he not stand still at the time, even at the [e]breaking forth of the children.
14 I will redeem them from the power of the grave: I will deliver them from death: O [f]death, I will be thy death: O grave, I will be thy destruction: [g]repentance is hid from mine eyes.
6 [a]And we speak wisdom among them that are [b]perfect: not the wisdom of this world, neither of the [c]princes of this world, which come to nought.
7 [d]But we speak the wisdom of God in a [e]mystery, even the hid wisdom, [f]which God had determined before the world, unto our glory.
8 [g]Which none of the princes of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the [h]Lord of glory.
9 [i]But as it is written, (A)The things which eye hath not seen, neither ear hath heard, neither came into [j]man’s heart, are, which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 [k]But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the spirit [l]searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 [m]For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the [n]spirit of a man, which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have receiveth not the [o]spirit of the world, but the Spirit, which is of God, [p]that we might [q]know the things that are given to us of God.
13 [r]Which things also we speak, not in the (B)words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the holy Ghost teacheth, [s]comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.
14 [t]But the [u]natural man perceiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are [v]spiritually discerned.
15 [w]But he that is spiritual, [x]discerneth all things: yet [y]he himself is judged of [z]no man.
16 (C)[aa]For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he might [ab]instruct him? But we have the [ac]mind of Christ.

1 At (A)[a]that time Herod the Tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus,
2 And said unto his servants, This is that John Baptist, he is risen again from the dead, and therefore great [b]works are wrought by him.
3 (B)For Herod had taken John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife.
4 For John said unto him, It is not (C)lawful for thee to have her.
5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a (D)Prophet.
6 But when Herod’s birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased [c]Herod.
7 Wherefore he promised with an oath, that he would give her whatsoever she would ask.
8 And she being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist’s head in a platter.
9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless, because of the oath, and them that sat with him at the table, he commanded it to be given her,
10 And sent, and beheaded John in the prison.
11 And his head was brought in a platter, and given to the maid, and she brought it unto her mother.
12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.
