Book of Common Prayer
89 I will sing the mercies of the LORD forever. With my mouth I will declare Your truth from generation to generation.
2 For I said, “Mercy shall be set up forever. Your truth shall You establish in the very heavens.
3 “I have made a covenant with My Chosen. I have sworn to David My servant,
4 “‘Your Seed will I establish forever and set up your Throne from generation to generation.’” Selah.
5 O LORD, even the heavens shall praise Your wondrous work; indeed, Your truth, in the Congregation of the saints.
6 For who is equal to the LORD in the heaven? Who is like the LORD among the sons of the gods?
7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be reverenced above all who are around Him.
8 O, LORD God of Hosts, Who is a mighty LORD like You? And Your truth surrounds You.
9 You rule the raging of the sea. When the waves thereof arise, You still them.
10 You have beaten down Rahab as a man slain. You have scattered Your enemies with Your mighty arm.
11 The heavens are Yours. The Earth is also Yours. You have laid the foundation of the world and all that therein is.
12 You have created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in Your Name.
13 You have a mighty arm. Your hand is strong. Your right hand is high.
14 Righteousness and equity are the establishment of Your throne. Mercy and truth go before Your face.
15 Blessed is the people who can rejoice in You. They shall walk in the light of Your countenance, O LORD.
16 They shall rejoice continually in Your Name; and in Your righteousness they shall exalt themselves.
17 For You are the glory of their strength; and by Your favor our horns shall be exalted.
18 For our shield belongs to the LORD, and our King to the Holy One of Israel.
19 You spoke, then, in a vision to Your holy one, and said, “I have laid help upon one who is mighty. I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
20 “I have found David, My servant. With My holy oil have I anointed him.
21 “Therefore, My hand shall be established with him and My arm shall strengthen him.
22 “The enemy shall not oppress him, nor shall the wicked hurt him.
23 “But I will destroy his foes before his face and plague those who hate him.
24 “My truth also, and My mercy, shall be with him; and in My Name shall his horn be exalted.
25 “I will also set his hand in the sea, and his right hand in the floods.
26 “He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’
27 “Also, I will make him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the Earth.
28 “I will keep My mercy for him for evermore; and My Covenant shall stand fast with him.
29 “I will also make his Seed endure forever, and his Throne as the days of Heaven.
30 “If his children forsake My Law and do not walk in My Judgments,
31 “if they break my statutes and do not keep My Commandments,
32 “then I will visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with strokes.
33 “Yet, I will not take My lovingkindness from him, nor will I falsify My truth.
34 “Nor will I break My Covenant, nor alter the thing that has gone out of My lips.
35 “I have sworn once, by My holiness, that I will not fail David.
36 “His Seed shall endure forever; and his Throne shall be as the Sun before Me.
37 “He shall be established forevermore as the Moon, and as a faithful witness in the heaven.” Selah.
38 But You have rejected and abhorred. You have been angry with Your anointed.
39 You have broken the Covenant of Your servant and profaned his crown, casting it on the ground.
40 You have broken down all his walls. You have laid his fortresses in ruin.
41 All who go by the way, plunder him. He is a rebuke to his neighbors.
42 You have set up the right hand of his enemies and made all his adversaries rejoice.
43 You have also turned the edge of his sword and have not made him stand in the battle.
44 You have caused his dignity to decay and cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have shortened the days of his youth and covered him with shame. Selah.
46 LORD, how long will You hide Yourself? Forever? Shall Your wrath burn like fire?
47 Remember how short my time is. Why should You create all the children of men in vain?
48 What man lives and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
49 LORD, where are Your former mercies You swore to David in Your truth?
50 Remember, O LORD, the rebuke of Your servants, which I bear in my bosom, of all the mighty people.
51 For Your enemies have reproached, O LORD, because they have reproached the footsteps of Your anointed.
52 Praise the LORD forevermore! So be it. Even so be it. A prayer of Moses, the man of God
14 “Therefore behold, I will allure her and bring her into the wilderness and speak friendly to her.
15 “And I will give her her vineyards from there, and the Valley of Achor for a door of hope. And she shall sing there as in the days of her youth, and as on the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
16 “And at that time,” says the LORD, “you shall call me Ishi, and shall no longer call me Baali.
17 “For I will take the names of Baal out of her mouth. And they shall no longer be remembered by their names.
18 “And on that day, I will make a Covenant for them with the wild beasts, and with the birds of the heaven, and with that which creeps upon the earth. And I will break the bow and the sword and the battle from the Earth and will make them sleep safely.
19 “And I will marry you to Me forever. Yea, I will marry you to Me in righteousness and in judgment and in mercy and in compassion.
20 “I will even marry you to Me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD.
21 “And on that day, I will hear,” says the LORD, “I will hear the heavens. And they shall hear the Earth.
22 “And the Earth shall hear the grain and the wine and the oil. And they shall hear Jezreel.
23 “And I will sow her to Me in the earth. And I will have mercy upon her who was not pitied. And I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people.’ And they shall say, ‘You are my God.’”
17 Therefore he sent word to Ephesus from Miletus and called the elders of the church.
18 When they had come, he said to them, “You know how I have lived with you at all times, from the first day that I came into Asia;
19 “serving the Lord with all modesty, and with many tears and temptations (which came to me by the plotting of the Jews).
20 “And how I kept back nothing that was profitable, but have showed you, and taught you openly, and throughout every house;
21 “witnessing the repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ to both the Jews and the Greeks.
22 “And now behold I go, bound in the Spirit, to Jerusalem. And I do not know what things shall come to me there,
23 “except that the Holy Ghost witnesses in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.
24 “But these things do not move me. Nor is my life dear to me. So that I may fulfill my course, and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus (to testify the Gospel of the grace of God) with joy.
25 “And now behold, I know that hereafter all of you among whom I have gone preaching the Kingdom of God shall no longer see my face.
26 “Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all.
27 “For I have kept nothing back but have declared to you the whole counsel of God.
28 “Therefore, attend to yourselves, and to all the flock, among which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which He has purchased with His own blood.
29 “For I know this: that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 “Moreover, men shall arise from your own selves, speaking perverse things to draw disciples away with them.
31 “Therefore watch. And remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone, both night and day, with tears.
32 “And now brothers, I commend you to God, and to the Word of His grace, which is able to build further, and to give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
33 “I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.
34 “Yes, you know that these hands have ministered to my needs, and to those who were with me.
35 “I have shown you all things; how that in so doing you ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
36 And when he had spoken this, he kneeled down and prayed with them all.
37 Then they all wept abundantly, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,
38 being most tormented by the words he spoke of seeing his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.
5 Then it happened that as the people pressed upon Him to hear the Word of God, He stood by the lake of Gennesaret
2 and saw two ships stand by the lakeside. But the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
3 And He entered into one of the ships (which was Simon’s) and asked him to thrust off a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the ship.
4 Now when He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep. And let down your nets to make a catch.”
5 Then Simon answered, and said to Him, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have taken nothing. Nevertheless, at Your Word I will let down the net.”
6 And when they had done so, they enclosed a great multitude of fish, so that their net broke.
7 And they beckoned to their partners in the other ship to come and help them. Then they came and filled both the ships, so that they sank.
8 Now when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Lord, go from me. For I am a sinful man.”
9 For he was utterly astonished (and all who were with him) at the catch of fish which they took.
10 And so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were companions of Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear. From now on you shall catch men.”
11 And when they had brought the ships to land, they left all and followed Him.
