Psalm 38

Do Not Forsake Me, O Yahweh

A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance.

38 O Yahweh, (A)reprove me not in Your wrath,
And discipline me not in Your burning anger.
For Your (B)arrows have pressed deep into me,
And (C)Your hand has pressed down upon me.
There is (D)no soundness in my flesh (E)because of Your indignation;
There is no health (F)in my bones because of my sin.
For my (G)iniquities go over my head;
As a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.
My [a]wounds stink and rot
Because of (H)my [b]folly.
I am bent over and (I)greatly bowed down;
I (J)go mourning all day long.
For my loins are filled with (K)burning,
And there is (L)no soundness in my flesh.
I am (M)faint and [c]badly crushed;
I [d](N)groan because of the [e]agitation of my heart.

Lord, all (O)my desire is [f]before You;
And my (P)sighing is not hidden from You.
10 My heart throbs, (Q)my strength forsakes me;
And the (R)light of my eyes, even [g]that [h]has gone from me.
11 My [i](S)loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague;
And my kinsmen (T)stand afar off.
12 Those who (U)search for my life (V)lay snares for me;
And those who (W)seek [j]to do me evil have [k]threatened destruction,
And they (X)meditate on deception all day long.

13 But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a (Y)mute man who does not open his mouth.
14 And I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For (Z)I [l]wait on You, O Yahweh;
You (AA)will answer, O Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Save, lest they be glad over me,
Who, when my foot stumbles, (AB)magnify themselves against me.”
17 For I am (AC)ready to fall,
And (AD)my [m]sorrow is continually before me.
18 For I [n](AE)confess my iniquity;
I am full of (AF)anxiety because of my sin.
19 But my (AG)enemies are vigorous and [o]strong,
And those who wrongfully (AH)hate me abound.
20 And those who (AI)repay evil for good,
They (AJ)accuse me, for I pursue what is good.
21 Do not forsake me, O Yahweh;
O my God, (AK)do not be far from me!
22 Make (AL)haste to help me,
O Lord, (AM)my salvation!

Psalm 119:25-48

Daleth

25 My (A)soul clings to the dust;
(B)Revive me (C)according to Your word.
26 I have recounted my ways, and You have answered me;
(D)Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts,
So I will (E)muse on Your wondrous deeds.
28 My (F)soul [a]weeps because of grief;
(G)Raise me up according to Your word.
29 Remove the false way from me,
And graciously grant me Your law.
30 I have chosen the faithful way;
I have [b]placed Your judgments before me.
31 I (H)cling to Your testimonies;
O Yahweh, do not put me to shame!
32 I shall run the way of Your commandments,
For You will (I)enlarge my heart.

He

33 (J)Instruct me, O Yahweh, in the way of Your statutes,
That I may observe it to the end.
34 (K)Cause me to understand, that I may (L)observe Your law
And keep it (M)with all my heart.
35 Cause me to walk in the (N)path of Your commandments,
For I (O)delight in it.
36 (P)Cause my heart to incline to Your testimonies
And not to (Q)dishonest gain.
37 Cause my (R)eyes to turn away from looking at worthlessness,
And (S)revive me in Your ways.
38 (T)Cause Your [c]word to be established for Your slave,
[d]As that which produces fear for You.
39 (U)Cause my reproach which I dread to pass away,
For Your judgments are good.
40 Behold, I (V)long for Your precepts;
Revive me in Your righteousness.

Vav

41 May Your (W)lovingkindnesses also come to me, O Yahweh,
Your salvation (X)according to Your [e]word;
42 So I will have an (Y)answer for him who (Z)reproaches me,
For I trust in Your word.
43 And do not take away the word of truth utterly from my mouth,
For I [f](AA)wait for Your judgments.
44 So I will (AB)keep Your law continually,
Forever and ever.
45 And I will (AC)walk in a wide place,
For I (AD)seek Your precepts.
46 I will also speak of Your testimonies (AE)before kings
And I shall not be ashamed.
47 I shall [g](AF)delight in Your commandments,
Which I (AG)love.
48 And I shall lift up my hands to Your commandments,
Which I (AH)love;
And I will (AI)muse on Your statutes.

Job 12:1

Job Answers

12 Then Job answered and said,

Job 14

If a Man Dies, Will He Live Again?

14 (A)Man, who is born of woman,
Is [a]short-lived and (B)full of turmoil.
(C)Like a flower he comes forth and withers.
He also flees like (D)a shadow and does not stand.
You also (E)open Your eyes on him
And (F)bring [b]me into judgment with Yourself.
(G)Who can make the clean out of the unclean?
No one!
Since his days are determined,
The (H)number of his months is with You;
And his limits You have [c]set so that he cannot pass.
(I)Turn Your gaze from him that he may cease from toil,
Until he accepts his day like a hired man.

“For there is hope for a tree,
When it is cut down, that it will change back sprouting again,
And its shoots will not cease.
Though its roots grow old in the ground
And its stump dies in the dry soil,
At the scent of water it will flourish
And put forth sprigs like a plant.
10 But (J)man dies and lies prostrate.
Man (K)breathes his last, and where is he?
11 As (L)water [d]evaporates from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dried up,
12 So (M)man lies down and does not rise.
Until the heavens are no longer,
[e]He will not awake nor be aroused out of [f]his sleep.

13 “Oh that You would conceal me in Sheol,
That You would hide me (N)until Your anger returns to You,
That You would set a limit for me and remember me!
14 If a man dies, will he live again?
All the days of my labor I will wait
Until my change comes.
15 You will call, and I will answer You;
You will long for (O)the work of Your hands.
16 For now You (P)number my steps,
You do not (Q)keep watch over my sin.
17 My transgression is (R)sealed up in a bag,
And You [g]cover up my iniquity.

18 “But the falling mountain [h]crumbles away,
And the rock moves from its place;
19 Water wears away stones;
Its torrents wash away the dust of the earth;
So You (S)make man’s hope perish.
20 You forever overpower him and he (T)goes away;
You alter his appearance and send him away.
21 His sons achieve honor, but (U)he does not know it;
Or they become insignificant, but he does not perceive it.
22 But his flesh pains him,
And he mourns only for himself.”

Acts 12:18-25

18 Now when day came, there was no small disturbance among the soldiers as to what [a]had become of Peter. 19 And when Herod had searched for him and had not found him, he examined the guards and ordered that they (A)be led away to execution. Then he went down from Judea to (B)Caesarea and was spending time there.

The Death of Herod

20 Now he was very angry with the people of (C)Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking for peace, because (D)their country was fed by the king’s country. 21 And on an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel and sitting on the judgment seat, began delivering an address to them. 22 And the assembly kept crying out, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 And immediately (E)an angel of the [b]Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

24 But (F)the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be multiplied.

25 And (G)Barnabas and (H)Saul [c]returned [d]to Jerusalem, (I)fulfilling their ministry, taking along with them (J)John, who was also called Mark.

John 8:47-59

47 (A)He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

48 (B)The Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a (C)Samaritan and (D)have a demon?” 49 Jesus answered, “I do not (E)have a demon, but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me. 50 But (F)I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges. 51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone (G)keeps My word he will never (H)see death—ever.” 52 (I)The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You (J)have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone (K)keeps My word, he will never (L)taste of death—ever.’ 53 Surely You (M)are not greater than our father Abraham who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?” 54 Jesus answered, (N)If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; (O)it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’; 55 and (P)you have not known Him, (Q)but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be (R)a liar like you, (S)but I do know Him and (T)keep His word. 56 (U)Your father Abraham (V)rejoiced [a]to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” 57 (W)So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” 58 Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, (X)I am.” 59 Therefore they (Y)picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus [b](Z)hid Himself and went out of the temple.
