New American Bible (Revised Edition) (NABRE)
Version
Psalm 146-147

Psalm 146[a]

Trust in God the Creator and Redeemer

Hallelujah!

Praise the Lord, my soul;
    I will praise the Lord all my life,
    sing praise to my God while I live.(A)

I

Put no trust in princes,
    in children of Adam powerless to save.(B)
    Who breathing his last, returns to the earth;
    that day all his planning comes to nothing.(C)

II

Blessed the one whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord, his God,
The maker of heaven and earth,
    the seas and all that is in them,(D)
Who keeps faith forever,
    secures justice for the oppressed,(E)
    who gives bread to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free;(F)
    the Lord gives sight to the blind.
The Lord raises up those who are bowed down;(G)
    the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord protects the resident alien,
    comes to the aid of the orphan and the widow,(H)
    but thwarts the way of the wicked.
10 The Lord shall reign forever,
    your God, Zion, through all generations!(I)
Hallelujah!

Psalm 147[b]

God’s Word Restores Jerusalem

Hallelujah!

I

How good to sing praise to our God;
    how pleasant to give fitting praise.(J)
The Lord rebuilds Jerusalem,
    and gathers the dispersed of Israel,(K)
Healing the brokenhearted,
    and binding up their wounds.(L)
He numbers the stars,
    and gives to all of them their names.(M)
Great is our Lord, vast in power,
    with wisdom beyond measure.(N)
The Lord gives aid to the poor,
    but casts the wicked to the ground.(O)

II

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
    with the lyre make music to our God,(P)
[c]Who covers the heavens with clouds,
    provides rain for the earth,
    makes grass sprout on the mountains,(Q)
Who gives animals their food
    and young ravens what they cry for.(R)
10 [d]He takes no delight in the strength of horses,
    no pleasure in the runner’s stride.(S)
11 Rather the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,
    those who put their hope in his mercy.

III

12 Glorify the Lord, Jerusalem;
    Zion, offer praise to your God,
13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates,
    blessed your children within you.(T)
14 He brings peace to your borders,
    and satisfies you with finest wheat.(U)
15 [e]He sends his command to earth;
    his word runs swiftly!(V)
16 Thus he makes the snow like wool,
    and spreads the frost like ash;(W)
17 He disperses hail like crumbs.
    Who can withstand his cold?
18 Yet when again he issues his command, it melts them;
    he raises his winds and the waters flow.
19 He proclaims his word to Jacob,
    his statutes and laws to Israel.(X)
20 He has not done this for any other nation;
    of such laws they know nothing.
Hallelujah!

Psalm 111-113

Psalm 111[a]

Praise of God for Goodness to Israel

Hallelujah!

I will praise the Lord with all my heart(A)
    in the assembled congregation of the upright.[b]
Great are the works of the Lord,
    studied by all who delight in them.
Majestic and glorious is his work,
    his righteousness endures forever.
He won renown for his wondrous deeds;
    gracious and merciful is the Lord.(B)
He gives food to those who fear him,[c]
    he remembers his covenant forever.
He showed his powerful deeds to his people,
    giving them the inheritance of the nations.
The works of his hands are true and just,
    reliable all his decrees,
Established forever and ever,
    to be observed with truth and equity.
He sent release to his people,
    decreed his covenant forever;
    holy and fearsome is his name.
10 [d]The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;(C)
    prudent are all who practice it.
    His praise endures forever.

Psalm 112[e]

The Blessings of the Just

Hallelujah!

Blessed the man who fears the Lord,
    who greatly delights in his commands.(D)
His descendants shall be mighty in the land,
    a generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house;
    his righteousness[f] shall endure forever.
Light shines through the darkness for the upright;(E)
    gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
It is good for the man gracious in lending,
    who conducts his affairs with justice.
For he shall never be shaken;
    the righteous shall be remembered forever.(F)
He shall not fear an ill report;
    his heart is steadfast, trusting the Lord.
His heart is tranquil, without fear,
    till at last he looks down on his foes.
Lavishly he gives to the poor;
    his righteousness shall endure forever;(G)
    his horn[g] shall be exalted in honor.
10 The wicked sees and is angry;
    gnashes his teeth and wastes away;
    the desire of the wicked come to nothing.

Psalm 113[h]

Praise of God’s Care for the Poor

Hallelujah!

I

Praise, you servants of the Lord,
    praise the name of the Lord.(H)
Blessed be the name of the Lord
    both now and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting(I)
    let the name of the Lord be praised.

II

High above all nations is the Lord;
    above the heavens his glory.(J)
Who is like the Lord our God,
    enthroned on high,
    (K)looking down on heaven and earth?
He raises the needy from the dust,
    lifts the poor from the ash heap,(L)
Seats them with princes,
    the princes of the people,
Gives the childless wife a home,
    the joyful mother of children.(M)
Hallelujah!

Isaiah 43:8-13

Lead out the people, blind though they have eyes,
    deaf though they have ears.

Let all the nations gather together,
    let the peoples assemble!
Who among them could have declared this,
    or announced to us the earlier things?[a]
Let them produce witnesses to prove themselves right,
    that one may hear and say, “It is true!”
10 You are my witnesses[b]—oracle of the Lord
    my servant whom I have chosen
To know and believe in me
    and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
    and after me there shall be none.
11 I, I am the Lord;
    there is no savior but me.
12 It is I who declared, who saved,
    who announced, not some strange god among you;
You are my witnesses—oracle of the Lord.
    I am God,
13     yes, from eternity I am he;
There is none who can deliver from my hand:
    I act and who can cancel it?(A)

1 Peter 2:2-10

like newborn infants, long for pure spiritual milk so that through it you may grow into salvation, (A)for you have tasted that the Lord is good.[a] Come to him, a living stone,[b] rejected by human beings but chosen and precious in the sight of God,(B) and, like living stones, let yourselves be built[c] into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.(C) For it says in scripture:

“Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion,
    a cornerstone, chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame.”(D)

Therefore, its value is for you who have faith, but for those without faith:

“The stone which the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone,”(E)

and

“A stone that will make people stumble,
    and a rock that will make them fall.”

They stumble by disobeying the word, as is their destiny.(F)

[d]But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.(G)

10 Once you were “no people”
    but now you are God’s people;
you “had not received mercy”
    but now you have received mercy.(H)

John 14:1-7

Chapter 14

Last Supper Discourses. [a]“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith[b] in God; have faith also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? [c]And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.(A) Where [I] am going you know the way.”[d] Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth[e] and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.(B) If you know me, then you will also know my Father.[f] From now on you do know him and have seen him.”(C)
