Psalm 97-98

The Lord Reigns

97 (A)The Lord reigns, (B)let the earth rejoice;
    let the many (C)coastlands be glad!
(D)Clouds and thick darkness are all around him;
    (E)righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
(F)Fire goes before him
    and burns up his adversaries all around.
His (G)lightnings light up the world;
    the earth sees and (H)trembles.
The mountains (I)melt like (J)wax before the Lord,
    before (K)the Lord of all the earth.

(L)The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
    and all (M)the peoples see his glory.
All worshipers of images are (N)put to shame,
    who make their boast in (O)worthless idols;
    (P)worship him, all you gods!

Zion hears and (Q)is glad,
    and the daughters of Judah rejoice,
    because of your judgments, O Lord.
For you, O Lord, are (R)most high over all the earth;
    you are exalted far above (S)all gods.

10 O you who love the Lord, (T)hate evil!
    He (U)preserves the lives of his (V)saints;
    he (W)delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 (X)Light (Y)is sown[a] for the righteous,
    and joy for the upright in heart.
12 (Z)Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous,
    and (AA)give thanks to his holy name!

Make a Joyful Noise to the Lord

A Psalm.

98 Oh sing to the Lord (AB)a new song,
    for he has done (AC)marvelous things!
His (AD)right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.
The Lord has (AE)made known his salvation;
    he has (AF)revealed his righteousness in (AG)the sight of the nations.
He has (AH)remembered his (AI)steadfast love and faithfulness
    to the house of Israel.
All (AJ)the ends of the earth have seen
    (AK)the salvation of our God.

(AL)Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
    (AM)break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
    with the lyre and the (AN)sound of melody!
With (AO)trumpets and the sound of (AP)the horn
    (AQ)make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord!

(AR)Let the sea roar, and (AS)all that fills it;
    (AT)the world and those who dwell in it!
Let the rivers (AU)clap their hands;
    let (AV)the hills sing for joy together
before the Lord, for he comes
    to (AW)judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
    and the peoples with equity.

Proverbs 8:22-30

22 (A)“The Lord (B)possessed[a] me at the beginning of his work,[b]
    the first of his acts (C)of old.
23 Ages ago I was (D)set up,
    at the first, (E)before the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no (F)depths I was (G)brought forth,
    when there were no springs abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains (H)had been shaped,
    (I)before the hills, I was brought forth,
26 before he had made the earth with its fields,
    or the first of the dust of the world.
27 When he (J)established the heavens, I was there;
    when he drew (K)a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he (L)made firm the skies above,
    when he established[c] the fountains of the deep,
29 when he (M)assigned to the sea its (N)limit,
    so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out (O)the foundations of the earth,
30     then (P)I was beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his[d] (Q)delight,
    rejoicing before him always,

John 13:20-35

20 Truly, truly, I say to you, (A)whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”

One of You Will Betray Me

21 After saying these things, (B)Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, (C)“Truly, truly, I say to you, (D)one of you will betray me.” 22 (E)The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. 23 (F)One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table (G)at Jesus' side,[a] 24 so Simon Peter motioned to him to ask Jesus[b] of whom he was speaking. 25 (H)So that disciple, (I)leaning back against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 Jesus answered, (J)“It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread (K)when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, (L)he gave it to Judas, (M)the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 Then after he had taken the morsel, (N)Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, (O)“What you are going to do, do quickly.” 28 Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. 29 Some thought that, (P)because Judas had the moneybag, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need (Q)for the feast,” or that he should (R)give something to the poor. 30 So, after receiving the morsel of bread, he immediately went out. (S)And it was night.

A New Commandment

31 When he had gone out, Jesus said, (T)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and (U)God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, (V)God will also glorify him in himself, and (W)glorify him at once. 33 Little children, (X)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just (Y)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ 34 (Z)A new commandment (AA)I give to you, (AB)that you love one another: (AC)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 (AD)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Psalm 145

Great Is the Lord

[a] A Song of Praise. Of David.

145 (A)I will extol you, my God and (B)King,
    and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
    (C)and praise your name forever and ever.
(D)Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
    and his (E)greatness is unsearchable.

(F)One generation shall commend your works to another,
    and shall declare your mighty acts.
On (G)the glorious splendor of your majesty,
    and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of (H)the might of your awesome deeds,
    and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your (I)abundant goodness
    and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

The Lord is (J)gracious and merciful,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is (K)good to all,
    and his mercy is over all that he has made.

10 (L)All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
    and all your (M)saints shall bless you!
11 They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
    and tell of your power,
12 to (N)make known to the children of man your[b] (O)mighty deeds,
    and (P)the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 (Q)Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

[The Lord is faithful in all his words
    and kind in all his works.][c]
14 The Lord (R)upholds all who are falling
    and (S)raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all (T)look to you,
    and you give them their food in due season.
16 You (U)open your hand;
    you (V)satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is (W)righteous in all his ways
    and (X)kind in all his works.
18 The Lord is (Y)near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him (Z)in truth.
19 He (AA)fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
    he also (AB)hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord (AC)preserves all who love him,
    but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
    and (AD)let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

1 John 5:1-12

Overcoming the World

(A)Everyone who believes that (B)Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and (C)everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. (D)By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For (E)this is the love of God, that we (F)keep his commandments. And (G)his commandments are not burdensome. For (H)everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—(I)our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes (J)that Jesus is the Son of God?

Testimony Concerning the Son of God

This is he who came (K)by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And (L)the Spirit is the one who testifies, because (M)the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. (N)If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God (O)that he has borne concerning his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God (P)has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God (Q)has made him a liar, (R)because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us (S)eternal life, and (T)this life is in his Son. 12 (U)Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
