Book of Common Prayer
1 ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens; praise him in the heights.
2 Praise ye him, all his angels; praise ye him, all his hosts.
3 Praise ye him, sun and moon; praise him, all ye stars of light.
4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens and ye waters that are above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD; for he commanded, and they were created.
6 He has established them for ever and ever: he has made a law which shall not be broken.
7 ¶ Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons and all deeps,
8 fire and hail; snow and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word,
9 mountains and all hills; fruitful trees and all cedars,
10 beasts and all animals; creeping things and flying fowl,
11 kings of the earth and all the peoples, princes and all judges of the earth,
12 both young men and maidens, the old with the children,
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD; for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above earth and heavens.
He
14 has exalted the horn of his people; let all his merciful ones praise him; even of the sons of Israel, the people near unto him. Halelu-JAH.
1 ¶ Halelu-JAH. Sing unto the LORD a new song, let his praise be in the congregation of the merciful.
2 Let Israel rejoice with his Maker; let the sons of Zion be joyful with their King.
3 Let them praise his name in the dance; let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
4 For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.
5 The merciful shall be joyful with glory; they shall sing aloud upon their beds.
6 ¶ The high praises of God shall be in their mouth and a two-edged sword in their hand,
7 to execute vengeance upon the Gentiles and punishments upon the peoples,
8 to imprison their kings with fetters and their nobles with chains of iron,
9 to execute upon them the judgment written: this shall be glory for all his merciful ones. Halelu-JAH.
1 ¶ Halelu-JAH. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in the firmament of his power.
2 Praise him for his mighty acts; praise him according to his excellent greatness.
3 Praise him with the sound of the shofar; praise him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise him with the timbrel and dance; praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise him upon the loud cymbals; praise him upon the cymbals of joy.
6 Let every thing that has breath praise JAH. Halelu-JAH.
1 ¶ When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2 Judah was his holiness, and Israel his dominion.
3 The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs.
5 What came upon thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee? And thou O Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6 Ye mountains, why didst ye skip like rams and ye little hills, like lambs?
7 At the presence of the Lord, the earth trembles, at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turned the rock into a reservoir of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
1 ¶ Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy and for thy truth.
2 Why should the Gentiles say, Where is now their God?
3 But our God is in the heavens; he has made whatever he has desired.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
5 They have mouths, but they shall never speak; they have eyes, but they shall never see:
6 They have ears, but they shall never hear; they have noses, but they shall never smell;
7 they have hands, but they shall never touch; they have feet, but they shall never walk; they shall never speak through their throat.
8 Let those that make them become like unto them, and every one that trusts in them.
9 ¶ O Israel, trust thou in the LORD; he is your help and your shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; he is your help and your shield.
11 Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; he is your help and your shield.
12 The LORD has been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will greatly bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless those that fear the LORD, both small and great.
14 The LORD shall increase his blessing upon you more and more, upon you and your sons.
15 Ye are blessed of the LORD who made the heavens and earth.
16 The heavens are the heavens of the LORD, but the earth he has given to the sons of Adam.
17 The dead shall not praise JAH, neither any that go down into silence.
18 But we will bless JAH from this time forth and for evermore. Halelu-JAH.
6 ¶ Woe unto those that are at ease in Zion and to those that trust in the mountain of Samaria, who are named principals among the same nations which shall come upon them, O house of Israel!
2 Pass unto Calneh and see, and from there go to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Palestinians. Are they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
3 Ye that put far away the evil day and cause the seat of violence to come near;
4 that lie upon beds of ivory and stretch themselves upon their couches and eat the lambs out of the flock and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
5 that chant to the sound of the flute and invent to themselves instruments of music, like David;
6 that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments, but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
7 Therefore now they shall go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of those that stretched themselves upon their couches shall be removed.
8 ¶ The Lord GOD has sworn by himself, the LORD God of the hosts said, I abhor the grandeur of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore I will give the city with all that is therein over to the enemy.
9 And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
10 And their uncle shall take each one and burn them to bring out the bones out of the house and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then he shall say, Hold thy tongue, for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.
11 For, behold, the LORD shall command, and he will smite the great house with breaches and the little house with clefts.
12 Shall horses run upon the rocks? will one plow there with oxen? why have ye turned judgment into hemlock, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood?
13 Ye who rejoice in a thing of nought, who say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
14 But, behold, I will raise up against you Gentiles, O house of Israel, said the LORD God of the hosts, and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
5 ¶ in testimony of the just judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer,
6 seeing it is a just thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you
7 and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power,
8 with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,
9 who shall be punished with eternal destruction by the presence of the Lord and by the glory of his power,
10 when he shall come to be glorified in his saints and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
11 ¶ Therefore in this manner we pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of his calling and fill each will with goodness and the work of faith with power
12 that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be clarified in you, and ye in him, by the grace of our God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
57 ¶ Now Elisabeth’s full time came that she should be delivered and she brought forth a son.
58 And her neighbours and her relatives heard how the Lord had showed great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
60 And his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall be called John.
61 And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.
62 And they communicated with signs to his father, asking how he would have him called.
63 And he asked for a writing table and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marvelled.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spoke blessing God.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt round about them, and all these things were spoken of throughout all the hill country of Judaea.
66 And all those that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, Who shall this child be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.
67 ¶ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied, saying,
68 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and made redemption for his people
